Year 3 - 1, 10, 100 More and Less
Date: 19th Sep 2024 @ 8:34pm
We have been working on finding 1, 10 and 100 more than any given number up to 1000. We have been using the place value counters to help us see what changes when we subtract or add these amounts and what stays the same.We looked for patterns when adding and subtracting 10 and 100 and we noticed that the ones digit will always stay the same when adding or subtracting 10 or 100. "I've noticed that they all have 6 in the ones column." - Jamaal

During our Science unit, Forces and Magnets, we conducted an investigation to find out how a car would travel on different surfaces. We thought about how we would keep our investigation fair, what we would change, what we would keep the same and what we would measure. We also made predictions before carrying out the investigation in small groups, We recorded our results in a table and during our next Science session we will think about what the results tell us.
Year 3 - Flexible Partitioning
Date: 16th Sep 2024 @ 8:50pm
Year Three have been working on flexibly partitioning numbers to 1000. We have been using part-part-part whole models and place value counters to help us see how the same 3-digit number can be partitioned in many different ways.
Year 3 - DT - Investigating existing products and Market Research
Date: 9th Sep 2024 @ 9:05pm
To begin our DT journey, we looked at a range of existing pencil cases. We thought about what material they had been made from, how they had been joined, who the user was and how they opened and closed. We found most of the pencil cases were made from fabric and stitched together. Some pencil cases were made from wood or leather but these were less common. We also conducted some market research. We created a google form to gather data on what users would want from a pencil case. We thought about what we would need to put in a pencil case, the shape, the design, the material and how the case would close.
We then analysed the data to see what it told us. Our results showed that a character design is most popular. Those surveyed also wanted a soft pencil case that they could carry in their bags. We also found out that most children wanted lots of different things in their pencil case, so when we design our cases we need to make sure we have enough room and potentially a pocket for organising.

Year 3 started their maths learning by recapping what we remember about 2-digit numbers. We have been looking at how 2-digit numbers are composed of tens and ones and we have also been looking at how we can flexibly partition 2-digit numbers in a range of ways. Our next step is to introduce hundreds and then begin to look at the place value in 3-digit numbers.
Year 4 - KIRFs and dictionary practise
Date: 5th Sep 2024 @ 9:07am
Right back at it this week! We have been practising our numbers to 100 for our KIRFs this half term and we have been practising how to use a dictionary. We remembered that the dictionary is in alphabetical order and that we use the first 3 letters of the word to find it.
Date: 9th Jul 2024 @ 11:55am
Today, we recapped telling the time to the nearest fifteen minutes including: o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. We used our knowledge to play a game of bingo, making sure we had the correct times that matched before we could have the card.

Today, we all enjoyed takeover day with our Year 5 teachers! We were very excited to meet our new teachers and TAs and all tried our very best with everything they asked us to do.
After assembly, we began the morning by reading the story 'More or less' to recap our understanding of how to find one more and one less than a given number. We then used our knowledge to find one more and one less for given numbers within 100, showing our Year 5 teachers how we record our learning independently on Seesaw.
We then learnt how to draw a portrait of ourselves. Mr Ridley showed us a great example of his own portrait and gave us step by step instructions to follow.
We all had a super morning!
Date: 20th Jun 2024 @ 1:53pm
Today was our annual Year 5 Takeover Morning and Year 2 were lucky to spend the morning being taught by Mr Fleming, Mr Bell, Mr Hudson, Mr Zaleski and Mr Rhodes. We started off with Maths where we recapped our 2x, 5x and 10x multiplication facts. We played Hit The Button and then we completed independent tasks where we had to apply our 2x, 5x and 10x table knowledge.
After break we looked at word classes in Reading into Writing. We revisited nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. We identified them in sentences and discussed what their uses were. We then worked in groups to complete a sorting game.
We thoroughly enjoyed our morning with our Takeover teachers, we all worked hard and tried our very best for them and we hope that we have given them an idea of what it is like to work in a school.
Date: 11th Jun 2024 @ 5:18pm
Today we began our 'moving a robot' work to learn early programming skills. We explored using the individual buttons and commands, identifying what each command for the Beebot does and using them to start to predict the outcome of the robot program.
Year 2- Position and Direction
Date: 22nd May 2024 @ 7:35am
This week, Year Two have began their position and direction Maths unit. Yesterday, we described movement in straight lines by working with a partner to follow a set of instructions to move a counter around a grid in the correct direction. We had to understand positional language including: forwards, backwards, left and right which linked to our Programming unit of Beebots. Our knowledge from the Computing unit helped us to use the vocabulary correctly and apply it in a different area of the curriculum.
Year 1 Finding Half of a Quantity
Date: 20th May 2024 @ 5:50pm
Today we learnt to find half of a quantity. We worked through lots of examples together, seeing that to find a half we need two equal groups. We then explored practically sharing a given quantity of objects into two groups using skills developed throughout our previous lessons. We checked the amounts in each groups after sharing to ensure that there was an equal amount in each group.

This week we have been reading "Superworm" by Julia Donaldson and the children have made their very own Superworms! They were able to practise lots of skills as they made their worms. These included counting as they rolled the dice and added the matching number of beads to their worm. Putting the beads on to the pipecleaner supported their fine motor developement and taking turns to roll the dice was great for developeing their social interactions. The worms looked pretty amazing too!
Year 2 - Finding three quarters
Date: 1st May 2024 @ 8:54pm
We have been using cubes to find three quarters of given amounts. First we had to count out the whole, then we had to share the whole into four equal groups. Each of these groups represented a quarter. Finally, we added three of the equal groups to find three quarters. This is a tricky concept, but we all worked well on this and we have deepened our understanding of non-unit fractions and finding a fraction of an amount.
Date: 1st May 2024 @ 9:49am
As part of our journey into 'properties of shapes', children in year 5 have been exploring 2-D and 3-D shapes. We used practical objects to support learners finding the number of faces, edges and vertices, and used an online tool to make a variety of 2-D shapes on a virtual pinboard.
