OPAL 2024 - 2025
OPAL
Developing Play is something we have wanted to do for a long time at Boundary, which is why we have decided to focus on making our play-times as stimulating, engaging and, most of all, FUN for your child at school!
We have teamed up with OPAL; a company who are experts in developing school playgrounds and the activities as well as the ethos’ that help School Play times to change for the positive.
What is OPAL?
OPAL stands for Outdoor Play and Learning. Their motto is to ‘create happier play times, better play spaces and enable staff to support new outdoor learning’

What has happened so far?
We have already made some exciting changes to playtimes:
- We have introduced loose parts to play with; pans, pots, fancy dress items, tyres, barrels and tarps.
- All playground staff across school have engaged in training with OPAL so we understand the different types of play and shared ideas for developing our grounds
- Pupil Questionnaire about what sort of playground they would like and what activities/apparatus they would like to be brought in.
The Exciting Path Ahead…
We have already begun to make changes to our playtimes by creating zones on both the KS1 and KS2 playgrounds.

We have worked collaboratively with our School Council to create Boundary's Play Charter.
