Year 1 2024 - 2025
Welcome to Year 1! Throughout Year 1 our children develop their independence as well as their reading, writing and counting skills. We spend time ensuring children learn through exploration in our provision areas as well as developing the children's independent skills through group and whole class tasks.
When you enter the Year 1 classrooms you will find colourful, vibrant, exciting places with lots of active learning taking place. Our Year 1 curriculum includes a mixture of independent activiites alongside teacher led, paired, group and individual tasks. Phonics plays a large part of the Year 1 curriculum as we teach children how to read, write and spell using the sounds letters make. Children are encouraged to read at home every night, learn spellings and complete our BLT on Seesaw each week.
Throughout our learning journey each child is offered the opportunity to take part in a range of activities including; a local area walk, forest school, a church visit, a sealife centre visit, cooking and a Stanley Park gardens visit (and all that alongside the learning that takes place in the classroom!)
From parents, carers, pupils and school staff we are all one team working together to support each child on their learning journey.
