Today we used our previous learning of recognising equal groups to now add equal groups together to find a total. We focused on counting equal groups of 2, 5 and 10 within 50, identifying and recording the number sentence to match the groups. We discussed and began to use the language of multiplication, e.g. ‘there are 5 equal groups of 2, so there are 10 in total.’
Nursery and Repeating Patterns
Date: 25th Apr 2024 @ 11:31am
We have been looking at repeating patterns this week using two objects or colours. To embed this learning, the children have made their very own Hungry Caterpillar neclaces. This is also great for developing the childrens fine motor skills.
Nursery and The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Date: 25th Apr 2024 @ 11:25am
We have been reading the story "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. The story is brilliant for teaching the children the days of the week, counting and exploring the life cycle of the butterfly. The children have been busy outside looking for caterpillars - we haven't found any yet! We have leanrt the caterpillar starts with a "C" and thought of other things that start with a "c". The children have also enjoyed leanring a new song that teaches us about the liec cycle of a butterfly.

Today we built on our previous learning of counting by making groups of 10 by learning to count forwards and backwards in 10s. We began our lesson with reading the story ‘Toasty Toes’ which introduced us to counting in tens by counting the number of toes on the beach. We then used a variety of representations, including tens frames, hundred squares and bead strings to support us to understand multiples of 10.

For our No Pen Morning, we thought about how we could use our oracy skills to complete our Reading into Writing and Maths lessons. In Reading into Writing we were completing our GPS lesson focusing on subheadings. The children ordered a text based on subheadings, created their own headings and matched topics to the headings. In Maths, we looked at adding fractions. The children created a tarsia using our knowledge of adding numerators.

Year 4 have had a great time during no pen morning. In Reading into Writing, we started our next journey which to write a poem based on rivers. We looked at a range of different poems and discussed common features such as alliteration, personification and rhyming.
In Maths, we learnt how to represent hundredths as fractions. Firstly, we use base ten blocks to understand how to represent hundredths as fractions. Then, we used our digital literacy skills to use rekenrek on our chromebooks. We discussed how many beads were on each side of the rekenrek and talked about how to represent each of the sides as a fraction.

After spending time exploring a variety of existing shell structures, looked at creating nets and CAD, it was finally time to make our final products. We made our very own Easter themes boxes to hold a chocolate surprise. We had to carefully use a hot glue gun and measure accurately to ensure that they folded together correctly. We also used moulds to create different chocolate shapes to go inside, proving our designs were fit for purpose!

Today, we began to explore what capacity meant and after predicting what we thought might be the capacity of different containers we measured it out using cups. We had to be careful we were filling the cup the same amount each time and carefully counted how many cups filled each container to its capacity.

As part of our Science learning, we conducted an experiment to find out how far germs spread when we sneeze. We also wanted to know if a tissue would stop the spread of sneezes and coughs. In small groups, we planned what we would do and how to keep the test fair. We thought about what we would change and what we would measure to help us answer the question.
We then applied our maths measures knowldge to mark out different distances, before conducting our experiment to see how far germs can travel.
Our shared conclusion was:
Using a tissue does not stop all of the germs spreading when you sneeze but it does reduce the amount of germs that spread because they are caught in the tissue.
We also found out that the closer you are to someone when they sneeze, the more the germs spread. There was much more spray (germs) at 25cm and 50 cm that reached the paper than at 150cm.
Acorns - The day the dinosaurs came
Date: 21st Mar 2024 @ 4:41pm
Acorns have had a fun-filled dinosaur themed day today. We have enjoyed exploring dinosaurs in our tuff tray, listening to our sensory story, 10 little dinosaurs and incorporating dinosaurs into our number and literacy learning. Our favourite part was meeting the baby dinosaur Sky. She let us touch her and feel her skin and then we had fun feeding her balls so she could throw them for us to catch. What a great day!
Date: 21st Mar 2024 @ 4:05pm
Today, dinosaurs arrived at Boundary! We begun the day with an assembly where we met Jam the T-Rex and learnt about his diet and discussed some of his features. In class we created our own top trumps cards of different dinosaurs and completed a range of different activities throughout the day. In the afternoon, we were treated to meeting 3 different baby dinosaurs and some of us even got to interact with them. We also completed an investigation 'How do dinosaurs teeth affect their diet?' We ground leaves and cotton wool down using rocks and a staple remover to find how different dinosaurs have different teeth for their diet. Finally, we went outside and put our measuring skills to the test measuring the lengths of 3 different dinosaurs on the playground and ordering them shortest to longest. We have had an exciting and incredible day and hope the dinosaurs may one day come back to visit us!
Year 4 - When dinosaurs arrived at Boundary
Date: 21st Mar 2024 @ 2:40pm
Wow! What an amazing day for Science day today. We started the day with a wordsearch of lots of tricky dinosaur names. Then together in groups we wrote down lots of adjectives to describe dinosaurs. All of the words we used described dinosaurs as being extremely big. So our teachers showed us a variety of dinosaurs and we were surprised at how small some were - some as small as chickens! After a discussion about it, we then thought of more words to describe the variety of dinosaurs we had just looked at. After break, we went into a KS2 assembly where we met Jam. We learned about how Jam hunts for food. We found out that he had a great sense of smells and good eyesight. Next, we used our Maths and teamwork skills to do a scale jigsaw of a Tyrannosaurus Rex's head and a Sinornithosaurus. The children worked brilliantly together and we couldn't believe how big a T-Rex's head was in comparison to Year 4 children! After lunch, we went to the green screen workshop with the Teach Rex team and learned how to edit videos. Lastly, we used all our learning from the day to write fact files about a dinosaur of our choice. What a great day!

In today’s lesson we began to measure the lengths and heights of objects, using non-standard units of measure, e.g. cubes and paper clips. We learnt that to measure something we needed to use a consistent of measure and not a range of objects. We also learnt that the unit of measure needs to be equal in size. We consolidated our learning from the previous lesion by comparing the lengths and heights of objects we measured, learning that for accurate comparisons we needed to use a consistent unit of measure.
Reception Number bonds to 5 and 10
Date: 18th Mar 2024 @ 4:41pm
The children in Reception have been very busy of the last few weeks loearning thei number bonds to 5 and ten. They have used the tensframe and cubes to help them work out all the different ways of making ten and used their fingers tp represent this. They have also used the part, part whole model to find all the different possibilies. Some children have even been learning how to record their work as a calculation.

Today in Design and Technology we practised the skill of accurately drawing out shapes. We carefully used a ruler to measure out different shapes in centimetres and we then carefully cut them out. We will apply this skill to mark out different parts of our moving vehicles, such as doors and windows.
Date: 26th Feb 2024 @ 5:29pm
Today we learnt about finding the difference and exploring this as a form of subtraction. We worked to make comparisons between two amounts, asking questions such as who has more? How do you know? How many more does _ have? We used our skills of counting back and counting on to help us to find the difference. Some of us made both amounts to visually see how many more or less a number is.
Acorns - Goldilocks and number fun
Date: 23rd Feb 2024 @ 4:18pm
Acorns have had lots of fun this week learning about the story of Goldilocks and the three bears. We have immersed ourselves in sensory stories, oaty tuff trays, puppets and even Goldilocks yoga. Alongside this, we have been exploring fun number and maths activities as our school celebrates its 100th day of school. We have been busy developing our focus and concentration skills while taking part in adult led activities. We worked very hard and had lots of fun.

What a great day we had in Year 6 today! Over the last couple of days we have been researching pizzas and looking at recipes in order to design our own pizza. Today we worked in groups and pairs to make from scratch the pizza dough and the sauce. We then split the dough into equal parts and rolled/stretched it out to create a thin base. Once this was done, we added the sauce and then picked a range of different toppings to add. We were very impressed with the results and they tasted amazing!! We are going to evaluate our pizzas tomorrow and say what we liked about our prodct and what we would add/change.
