Stay & Play

Date: 8th Nov 2019 @ 4:41pm

This week our grown ups came into Nursery for our 'Stay & Play!' We took them all around Nursery, showing them the work we have been doing and telling them all about our daily routines. Together with our grown ups, we then played phonics bingo! We each had a board with lots of different pictures on, and we had to listen very carefully until we heard one of the sounds on our board. We used a counter to cover up each sound we heard. The person with all the sounds covered up on their board first was the winner!

Firework Fun!

Date: 6th Nov 2019 @ 7:38pm

This week we have also taken part in Bonfire night activities! Lots of the children in Nursery were very excited about seeing fireworks flying through the night sky and seeing the creative patterns as they explode into the sky with the stars. Some of our children also talked about their own experiences of Bonfire nights and fireworks. We then explored painting and collaging techniques to create firework pictures and the patterns they create when they explode. We have also been practising numbers 1-5. We counted the number of fireworks first and then matched the correct number of fireworks to the numeral. It's been another busy week!

Poppy Art!

Date: 6th Nov 2019 @ 7:16pm

This week in Nursery we have been learning about Remembrance Day and taking part in lots of Poppy themed activities! We created some particularly special Poppy art ready for our Remembrance Day ceremony next week. We use different techniques to create our painting. First we used our fingerprints and red paint for the Poppy leaves. We then had to add the black spot to the middle of our flower, being very careful not to smudge the flowers leaves! Finally we used a paint brush to add the flowers stem and the grass at the bottom of the Poppy field.

Trick or Treat!

Date: 30th Oct 2019 @ 7:15pm

Welcome back everyone! We have enjoyed hearing about all the exciting things you have done during half term. We have had a spectacularly spooky first week back! We arrived into Nursery to find our home corner had been taken over by a witch, who had turned it into a 'Witches Kitchen.' She has been making potions and leaving us secret messages on ghost paper! We had to use special torches to read the message she had left us! We have also been decorating pumpkins, witches and monsters. We have used different shapes for the different body parts on our 'shape monsters,' looking at the properties and how to recognise the shapes we used. 'Whats in the Witches Kitchen', 'Room on the Broom' and 'Five Little Monsters,' have been our stories this week and we have been looking at rhyming Halloween songs and rhymes. Try singing some of these songs together at home! Happy Halloween!

Lots of us found leaves of all different colours, some of us found sticks and conkers, and some of us even found pinecones, acorns and 'helicopter leaves!' We have used the leaves for craft activities, we have counted and rolled the conkers and acorns, and we have been mark making with sticks! We all enjoyed exploring our Autumn treasures! We have also created Autumn transient art pictures, made button trees and created leaf characters! This week we have also been looking at recognising the letters in our name, and some of us have been practising hard to write our names! Keep practising over half term everybody!

Some of us were lucky enough to hold Midge. We had to wear a special glove and be very brave and gentle with the owls. When we got back to Nursery we used the facts we had learnt and pictures of us and the owls to make information books. We have also taken part in lost of activities relating to owls this week. We have built nests for owls, made patterns with owl feathers, and we even made salt dough owls!

The Tiger Who Came to Nursery!

Date: 3rd Oct 2019 @ 3:51pm

This week we had a visit from a tiger! We read the story 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea,' talking about all the different foods he eats, and if they are healthy or unhealthy. Later on in the week we came in to Nursery one morning to find all the food had disappeared! But...the tiger had left some pretty obvious clues! We found four big tiger prints on the carpet in Nursery, alongside an empty milk, an eaten banana, and a empty Jaffa Cake box! We became super detectives, investigating around Nursery to see if anything else had been disturbed! We've also spent time this week writing invitations to invite people to tea and making tea for tea parties. We have also made tigers using different materials in Nursery, focussing on the tigers stripes and looking at the patterns they show!

Our Special People

We have made shape houses, and talked about how many family members we in each house. We have also thought about people who are special to us, including our friends!

This week we have also decorated cookies for MacMillan Coffee morning. We made the icing using icing sugar and water, mixing it together until it formed the paste. We then spread it over the biscuits, before adding sprinkles onto the top!

Witches, wizards and a whole lot of magic!

Date: 19th Sep 2019 @ 7:32pm

This week we have read the story 'Room on the Broom.' We talked about the different characters that are in the story and the order that they get onto the witches broomstick. We have made wands and broomsticks out of different materials, using sticks and comparing the sizes. We created magic potions and witches bubbling brew, blowing bubbles and exploring what was inside. We even painted with spaghetti broom sticks! The witch has also been very forgetful this week. She wrote us a letter to tell us that she had lost some of her items around Nursery! So we went on a scavenger hunt to find her hat, bow and broomstick! We found everything for her so she could get back on her broom and fly away.

We have had a very busy week in Nursery! We have used different techniques to create dinosaur pictures, including printing, collaging and painting. We even washed the dinosaurs that had been stomping in the slippery slime!

We have also been painting self portraits. First we looked in the mirror and talked to our friends and teachers about what we could see, what colour are our eyes? What shape is our head? What colour is our hair? Some of us then chose to paint other members of our family!

A lot of the children in Nursery have visited Blackpool Tower and could tell their friends all about the tower and what it's features are. As a class we talked about how we could show kindness and how it makes us feel.

“Hurting someone is not being like Katie Kindness” Elliott
