Awesome Autumn!

Date: 17th Oct 2019 @ 9:19am

Autumn is in the air! We have had a very busy last week of term at Nursery, exploring how things change in Autumn and why. Our BLT for the week was to go for an Autumn walk and collect Autumn treasures in a paper bag for us to explore in Nursery. Lots of us found leaves of all different colours, some of us found sticks and conkers, and some of us even found pinecones, acorns and 'helicopter leaves!' We have used the leaves for craft activities, we have counted and rolled the conkers and acorns, and we have been mark making with sticks! We all enjoyed exploring our Autumn treasures! We have also created Autumn transient art pictures, made button trees and created leaf characters! This week we have also been looking at recognising the letters in our name, and some of us have been practising hard to write our names! Keep practising over half term everybody!

The Owl Experience!

Date: 11th Oct 2019 @ 7:07pm

This week we had a very exciting visit from Midge the owl! We all listened carefully to the lady who looks after Midge.  She told us lots of exciting facts about owls! Some of us were lucky enough to hold Midge. We had to wear a special glove and be very brave and gentle with the owls. When we got back to Nursery we used the facts we had learnt and pictures of us and the owls to make information books. We have also taken part in lost of activities relating to owls this week. We have built nests for owls, made patterns with owl feathers, and we even made salt dough owls!

Visit to the Book Bus!

The Tiger Who Came to Nursery!

Date: 3rd Oct 2019 @ 3:51pm

This week we had a visit from a tiger! We read the story 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea,' talking about all the different foods he eats, and if they are healthy or unhealthy. Later on in the week we came in to Nursery one morning to find all the food had disappeared! But...the tiger had left some pretty obvious clues! We found four big tiger prints on the carpet in Nursery, alongside an empty milk, an eaten banana, and a empty Jaffa Cake box! We became super detectives, investigating around Nursery to see if anything else had been disturbed! We've also spent time this week writing invitations to invite people to tea and making tea for tea parties. We have also made tigers using different materials in Nursery, focussing on the tigers stripes and looking at the patterns they show!

Our Special People

This week we have been learning more about our families and where we live. We have talked about who lives in our house, and made a family tree, using a different leaf for each persons name. We have made shape houses, and talked about how many family members we in each house. We have also thought about people who are special to us, including our friends!

This week we have also decorated cookies for MacMillan Coffee morning. We made the icing using icing sugar and water, mixing it together until it formed the paste. We then spread it over the biscuits, before adding sprinkles onto the top!

Witches, wizards and a whole lot of magic!

Date: 19th Sep 2019 @ 7:32pm

We have made wands and broomsticks out of different materials, using sticks and comparing the sizes. We created magic potions and witches bubbling brew, blowing bubbles and exploring what was inside. We even painted with spaghetti broom sticks! The witch has also been very forgetful this week. She wrote us a letter to tell us that she had lost some of her items around Nursery! So we went on a scavenger hunt to find her hat, bow and broomstick! We found everything for her so she could get back on her broom and fly away.

We have had a very busy week in Nursery! We have used different techniques to create dinosaur pictures, including printing, collaging and painting. We even washed the dinosaurs that had been stomping in the slippery slime!

We have also been painting self portraits. First we looked in the mirror and talked to our friends and teachers about what we could see, what colour are our eyes? What shape is our head? What colour is our hair? Some of us then chose to paint other members of our family!

A lot of the children in Nursery have visited Blackpool Tower and could tell their friends all about the tower and what it's features are. This week in Reception the children have been introduced to our first characteristics monster ‘Katie Kindness’.  Katie Kindness has been teaching the children all about the importance of being kind to one another by sharing, taking turns, including everyone in your games, helping someone if they are hurt and using kind words and actions.  Mrs Clark and Mrs Farley have spotted lots children showing kindness to others and we have been very proud of all the children. As a class we talked about how we could show kindness and how it makes us feel.

“Hurting someone is not being like Katie Kindness” Elliott

“I helped Charlotte when she fell over” Riley.

“I’m happy when my friends let me play'” Jasmine

I wonder which characteristic monster we will meet next…?

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas!

Date: 15th Dec 2020 @ 2:32pm

We have been getting in the Christmas spirit this week! We had a big surprise on Monday morning – Santa had sent Buzz the Elf to watch over us and report to him each night! We decided we better be on our very best behaviour so, we helped Santa to wrap some presents in our elf wrapping station! We also made baubles and hung them on our tree, wrote letters to Santa, made Christmas lists and even made our Christmas cards. And that’s not all! We also made playdough snowmen, candy canes, Christmas trees and sparkly stars – there was a lot of glitter involved! We can’t wait for more Christmas fun next week!

Our year so far

Nursery have had a jam packed half term so far!

We remembered all the brave soldiers and planted a poppy for them on Remembrance Day. We talked about the different jobs soldiers do and how they look after us.

Then it was time for Odd Socks Day when we celebrated our differences. We read the story “It Okay To Be Different” By Todd Parr and talked about how we are all different.

Next, we had an unexpected visit to space! The children decided to build a space rocket and fly to the moon. We made a space den and even made some intergalactic space slime!

We have also been doing lots of outdoor learning and we’ve had some great tunes tapped out on our new music wall! The bikes have also been a great hit and it’s been brilliant to watch the children build their confidence and ride down the hill!

And now it’s time for all the Christmas fun to start! Sorry in advance for all the glitter!

Religious Education; a summary of our learning so far

Date: 15th Dec 2020 @ 2:27pm

At Boundary, our curious and tolerant children have had a busy few weeks learning lots about different religions and we can’t wait to share what we have done…

Reception have been busy learning about the Christmas story and filming our nativity in their outdoor area. They loved dressing up and re-enacting the nativity play.

This half term in Year 1 for RE, the children have been learning all about Jesus and the Christmas Story.  They have learnt about the roles of a family and why babies are special. They have read the Christmas Story and then ordered the events.  This week, they worked together in groups, to sort out Christmas cards into ones with a religious meaning and ones without.

Year 2 having been exploring the question…

Why do Christians say that Jesus is the ‘Light of the World’?

They children have learnt about how lights are used by Christians in celebration and to mark special events, what advent means and how they can be a light to other people!

Year 3 have been learning about Islam and who Muslims follow. They have learnt about the characteristics that the prophet Mohammed showed and how Muslims can be charitable. The children have reflected on this and how they can apply it to the role models in our lives.

In Year 4, they have been learning about Christianity and how Christians show love to everyone. The children have done this by looking at parables such as The Good Samaritan and The Unforgiving Servant. These parables have told them that it is important to ‘Love thy neighbour’ and treat everyone around them with care and respect.

This term in Year 5 they have been learning about Islam. They looked at Ramadan, The 5 Pillars of Islam, The Holy Qur’an and Hajj.

The Holy book of Islam is the Qur’an, Muslims clean themselves in water that has been blessed, before they hold it. – Lacey-Morgan

The pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj) is one of the five pillars of Islam and Muslims must do it at least once in their life if they are physically capable of it. Ihram is the name given to the special spiritual state in which pilgrims wear two white sheets of seamless cloth during their pilgrimage. – Myles

Year 6 children have been learning about the Hindu belief in reincarnation, karma and the 4 Ashramas (stages of life). The children have reflected on the milestones they have achieved in their lives already and possible future ones.
