It has been a very busy Christmas week in Year 3. We had our Christmas party and a lovely visit from Santa, who brought us a gift. We enjoyed our Christmas Dinner with Christmas Jumpers in the hall. We did a few Christmas crafts and made cards in the style of Pointillism because of the art we had been doing this half term.

We have been learning about similes, metaphors and alliteration in Reading into Writing and creating our own Christmas Shape poems. We have been making them funny as well as using the new features we have learnt. We hope that on Christmas Eve Santa's sleigh soars through the sky over Blackpool.
We have been working very hard to try and improve our reading using reading plus and daily reading at school, and we need to keep doing this over the holidays. Read! Read! Read!

Although it has looked very different from previous years, we have still celebrated the festive season at Boundary, albeit it in our bubbles and via whole school virtual assemblies.
Our carol service was a beautiful event, witnessed, shared and enjoyed (virtually!) by the whole school – a testament to the resilience, patience and determination of both our children and our staff.
During the week, bubbles have enjoyed their Christmas dinner. The hall was set out beautifully with crackers to pull, hats to wear and the odd poor joke to tell for each year group bubble to enjoy their Christmas dinner on their special day! A huge ‘Thank You’ goes to all the staff for making it run smoothly, especially Debbie and all the catering and welfare staff for all their hard work in making our delicious dinner.
Each bubble also enjoyed their party day this week, with children wearing their Christmas jumpers and their best party clothes! Each class spent the last afternoon of this term watching a special virtual pantomime ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and eating popcorn.
Although 2020 has not been the year we would have hoped for, our children, staff and parents and carers have once again united to create a supportive, nurturing environment for the children of Boundary, ensuring that each child continues to receive the best education and start in life despite the events of this year.
We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your ongoing support during these strange and difficult times and to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful, safe and happy New Year and we look forward to welcoming you all back in January.
Religious Education - a summary of our learning so far....

At Boundary, our curious and tolerant children have had a busy few weeks learning lots about different religions and we can’t wait to share what we have done…
Reception have been busy learning about the Christmas story and filming our nativity in their outdoor area. They loved dressing up and re-enacting the nativity play.
This half term in Year 1 for RE, the children have been learning all about Jesus and the Christmas Story. They have learnt about the roles of a family and why babies are special. They have read the Christmas Story and then ordered the events. This week, they worked together in groups, to sort out Christmas cards into ones with a religious meaning and ones without.
Year 2 having been exploring the question...
Why do Christians say that Jesus is the 'Light of the World'?
They children have learnt about how lights are used by Christians in celebration and to mark special events, what advent means and how they can be a light to other people!
Year 3 have been learning about Islam and who Muslims follow. They have learnt about the characteristics that the prophet Mohammed showed and how Muslims can be charitable. The children have reflected on this and how they can apply it to the role models in our lives.
In Year 4, they have been learning about Christianity and how Christians show love to everyone. The children have done this by looking at parables such as The Good Samaritan and The Unforgiving Servant. These parables have told them that it is important to 'Love thy neighbour' and treat everyone around them with care and respect.
This term in Year 5 they have been learning about Islam. They looked at Ramadan, The 5 Pillars of Islam, The Holy Qur'an and Hajj.
The Holy book of Islam is the Qur'an, Muslims clean themselves in water that has been blessed, before they hold it. - Lacey-Morgan
The pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj) is one of the five pillars of Islam and Muslims must do it at least once in their life if they are physically capable of it. Ihram is the name given to the special spiritual state in which pilgrims wear two white sheets of seamless cloth during their pilgrimage. - Myles
Year 6 children have been learning about the Hindu belief in reincarnation, karma and the 4 Ashramas (stages of life). The children have reflected on the milestones they have achieved in their lives already and possible future ones.

This week our Year 3 Eco Warriors planted some tree saplings in the Forest School area. Hopefully we will see them thrive and grow when we have our Forest school sessions in January. The children were very sensible although it was muddy! We have been talking about how we can take care of our environments both inside and outside of school and demonstrate responsibility by putting litter in the bin, taking our rubbish home from the park and ensuring that we are Eco friendly at home! All these things will help to improve and look after our planet.

In art we have been studying George Seurat and using pointilism to create a picture. In PE we have been creating our own dance routines using 4 different moves, repeated.

In Science we have been learning about Rocks and soil! We did an experiment to find out about which soil was the best drainer, and we found out that it was sandy soil. We kept our experiment fair by only changing one variable. This week we have also started learning about different types of rocks: igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary. We have sorted them and looked at how they were formed.

This week we have been doing lots of activities around unit-bullying day. We thought about how we can be kind and support each other, how we can make sure everyone has a friend and who and where we can go if we feel upset or need to share something with someone. We also all wore odd socks to celebrate our differences and anti-bullying day. it is our differences that we need to celebrate and these differences which make us special. We have had a busy week this week learning all about Remembrance Day and why it is important. We started the week by incorporating poppy art into our art lesson. We learnt how to create a colour wash and how to mix colours. We used our skills to create a picture of Flanders Field. Some of our guided reading texts have been around Remembrance Day too and we enjoyed drawing poppies in Always Time. We made poppies to remember some of the solders who have died and planted them in our school Remembrance Garden. On Remembrance Day we had a special assembly to show our respect.

We have been learning about Remembrance this week and as part of this we understood that poppies were one of the first flowers to grow on the battlefields, when the war was over. Our poppy art used a background wash of watercolour in green, with red poppies fading into the background. We used tools to create texture. We created our art for the soldier silhouettes in the hall, to commemorate all of the soldiers in wars past and present. Showing respect and our British Values, we will have two minutes silence on 11th November, when peace was agreed in 1918.
Dance and Art - We're Bright Sparks!

Welcome back to Autumn 2 in Year 3. This week we have started learning about Artists Georges Seurat and Henri Rousseau, we looked at their paintings and added comments about colour, form, texture and shapes. We expressed our likes and dislikes. We also started our first Dance unit, Dance around the world. It was great to talk about all the different styles of dance we knew and then we began to create a 32 beat motif based on 3 different dance styles, African, Indian and Street Dance. We had to keep in time to the beat and it was tricky, but a good first week.
We also listened to the Fire Service Bright Sparks assembly and talked about how to stay safe around Bonfire Night. Our top tip is to hold a sparkler in a carrot or cucumber!

This week we have been learning about 'Black History Month'. We have enjoyed learning about Mary Secole, Nelson Mandella and finding out why Black History is so important. We read the book 'Sulwe' by Lupita Nyongo, who is a Kenyan-Mexican actress and author. The story helped us to understand that our beauty comes from within, everyone is different but everyone is special and beautiful. Our differences should be celebrated and our similarities bring us together. Our learning also linked in with our school characteristic this week - tolerance.

This week we have enjoyed a different Tuesday morning - it was no pen day! We had to complete all of our learning without using a pen. We used teamwork, collaboration and worked on our communication skills. In Maths we did three digit subtraction (using hundreds frames and counters) and in Reading into Writing we ordered hand washing instructions ready to include in our explanation texts which we will be writing next week. We really enjoyed our morning!

This half term Bracken class are enjoying learning how to play the Samba drums. This week we learnt how to play four beats together, in rhythm, missing a different beat each time.

This week has been important for British Values at Boundary because we have taken part in the School Council Elections. We presented our manifestos if we wanted to be considered as a candidate and we thought about what a good Student Council Representative needed to be like. We had a secret vote and posted our ballot papers. On Monday we will find out which candidate has been selected to represent each class.

Over the last few weeks we have been trying to improve our fitness using different exercises. This week we did some running, star jumps, planks and ab crunches. It was hard and very tiring, but we are trying to challenge ourselves every week to do a little be more and show great determination and resilience. We learnt how important it is to rehydrate after we have done exercise.
Learning how to play the glockenspiel!

This week in music we have enjoyed learning how to play the glockenspiel. We spoke about rhythm, beat, tempo and notes. We moved to music, sat down and listened with closed eyes. After listening, talking about the song and answering the questions together (using correct musical language) our task was to play the glockenspiel in time with the beats in the song. We learnt how to play the notes C, E and G. It was great fun! We had to work collaboratively and help each other.

Welcome back to Year 3. Not only have we been busy learning about each other, but we've also been starting to learn about our new topics in Computing and Science. We looked at the vocabulary needed for Forces and Magnets and learnt how to use our new email accounts to login to the Chromebooks. We completed some self portraits in green and we talked about Year 3 expectations. We were all very smart and organised in our first week back and have lots of great things to learn and look forward to!

Changes to home time arrangements
As we have now been open for a number of days we have noticed a concerning lack of social distancing by parents and carers. Therefore, we are enhancing our COVID Safe rules.
We recommend that face coverings are worn by all parents and carers who are medically able to do so – staff will also be wearing face coverings.
To further ensure safe exiting at the end of the date, we will now stagger the collection times:
Year 3 – finish at 3:15pm
Year 4 – finish at 3:10pm
Year 5 – finish at 3:20pm
Year 6 – finish at 3:25pm
As always, for those parents/carers who have to collect children from Nursery, Reception and Key Stage 1, staff will still wait with your child until you can collect them from their designated zone.
Nursery, Reception, Years 1, 2 and 3
There will be no changes to Reception and Key Stage 1 at this time, however, this situation is under constant review. Please remember, do not call your child over to you, they will be brought to you by a member of staff.
