It was a great return to school, or should we say journey back in time, for our children. Our drivers for our non-core subjects this half-term are history, science and art. So, for our 'WOW' we combined the three to create our own costumes and to transform into Stone Age palaeontologists. The children have begun their next journey by digging for rocks and fossils! As well as a brief introduction into what we know as the beginning of man.

Every half term, children in Boundary will be learning about an area of Eco. Eco is short for ecological which means the relations of living organisms to one another and to their physical surroundings. Year three's theme this half term was Climate Change. Children watched videos, played games and created a poster to demonstrate awareness of how we need to change the way we are to help our planet.

Year 3 had a great time on No Pen Day, especially in Science! We have been learning all about magnetic forces and we used iron filings to create our own magnetic fields. We also had to work together to create our own magnetic maze, using rolled paper - a technique we have been looking at in our Design Technology lessons. It was interesting to see all the different designs. At the end of the lesson, we were able to show how the magnets don't need to be touching the magnetic object, in order to move it.

Children are currently on the journey to making their own photo frame. They are learning how to make products efficiently by selecting the right materials, refining their techniques and continually evaluating their progress. We needed to investigate how to make something stable and used pipe cleaners to create a free-standing, solid structure.

Children have been leaning about our world, the continents and the North and the South poles. What better way to engage the children than to make a globe of our own out of plasticine. Children had to create the sphere in blue for the water. They then had to use a flattened map of the continents and mould the green plasticine into the correct shapes and add to the correct place on their sphere. Finally, we added a thinner white sheet on the top for the Artic and a thicker section at the bottom, for the Antarctic.

Since the beginning of Year three, children have started to learn French. In lesson one, the children researched the country of France, the cities and monuments which make the country what it is. In week two, we dived further into the culture and the lifestyle of the people who live there and by week three we were learning some French words and phrases. Children have thoroughly enjoyed looking at Google Earth and walking through the streets of Paris, watching videos, singing French songs and playing 'Linguascope', an online interactive website where they can learn through playing games.

We had our first trip to the library at @thegrange. They have so much selection! Every child picked their own text to bring back to school to read in their down time.

Children have been working hard this week on their place value skills. As this underpins all of maths, it is so important the children are aware of the value of each digit in a number. By using concrete items, doing various fluency challenges, children have used their understanding of number to solve one and two step problems.

Welcome back to our children! We have returned to school at full force and jumped straight into learning about magnets! The children worked through a carousel of activities to explore magnetism at his finest. From making paperclip chain kites to sorting magnetic and non-magnetic items into their groups, the children loved their WOW!

To introduce our Summer 2 topic, Full Steam Ahead, we were set a challenge to create a moving train. We used nets to make cubes and cuboids for the body of the train and created a simple axle for the moving wheels. We then had a race to see which train would travel the furthest. Josiah's and Bailey's trains were the winners in Fern class, they were so good they ran off the end of the track!

On Monday, we took part in our annual Sports Day. We competed in events such as the obstacle race, the sprint race and the relay race. We worked together to gain points for our house teams. We had a great morning trying our best, cheering on our team mates and being active. Thank you to all our parents and carers who came to support us.

After discovering that Blackpool's first train station opened in 1846, we wanted to find out more about how Blackpool developed and where its visitors came from, so we became detectives. We used different pieces of historical evidence to try and answer three main questions; Why did people visit Blackpool after 1846?, Where did visitors to Blackpool come from? and What did people do in Blackpool in the 1890's?
We used historical evidence such as photographs, newspaper adverts, advertising posters and train timetables to answer these questions in groups. Blackpool has a fascinating history, what an interesting town we live in!

This week, we have enjoyed learning all about why we pay tax! We had a visit from HMRC, who showed us why it is so important to pay tax and where our money goes. We were very surprised to learn about the history of Jaffa Cakes and how they caused so much controversy - cake or biscuit?
We also had the chance to take part in an activity and decide where our taxes should go. We had to choose between healthcare, education and the armed forces. The Chancellor of the Exchequer has a really tough job!

What a day we had at school! The Green and Purple Bubble had such a busy no device day. Obviously we did some handwriting, reading and times tables, but we also had a great time making peppermint creams, wrap pizzas, playing board games, doing some PE and creating our own sunset art with oil pastels.
Some of the pupils at home also had a busy day too!
Music and Geography home Learning

We have been doing lots of home learning this last few weeks so this week we shine the light on some great Musical composing using crotchets and minims; we have been using digital technology to create drones too. In Geography we have been learning about Europe and the UK too. Well done to all the children at home and in school who are trying their best.

This week we have been doing lots of activities around Anti-bullying day. We thought about how we can be kind and support each other, how we can make sure everyone has a friend and who and where we can go if we feel upset or need to share something with someone. We also all wore odd socks to celebrate our differences and anti-bullying day. it is our differences that we need to celebrate and these differences which make us special.
