Today, we recapped telling the time to the nearest fifteen minutes including: o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. We used our knowledge to play a game of bingo, making sure we had the correct times that matched before we could have the card.
Date: 2nd Jul 2024 @ 3:47pm
Today, we participated in Geography Day thinking about the key question 'How has our local area changed?' We began by looking at our School on Google Earth and looking at what we could see on the aerial view picture, in small groups we labelled key things around our area. Then, we looked at the surrounding areas of school on Google Earth from 2022, focusing on Boundary Place and thought about what it looked like before going outside to see what we could find. We recorded findings through digital photographs and drawings. Our observations showed that the area has changed a lot and there are now lots of new houses and roads surrounding Boundary. We compared 2022 Boundary Place and current Boundary Place and thought about how this has affected the local area. We have enjoyed focusing on our local area the last couple of days and thinking about how changes can affect us.
Date: 2nd Jul 2024 @ 3:42pm
Today, we were joined by our parents for Together Time. We used a map of the playground to locate key areas where there was a piece of jigsaw to be found. They then used the pieces of the puzzle to build a world map. Once all the pieces were correct, we labelled the continents and oceans using an atlas to support us. Thank you to all the parents that joined us, we hope you enjoyed your morning!
Date: 1st Jul 2024 @ 4:09pm
Today, Year Two had a heritage day where we explored a location in our town. We studied Blackpool Pleasure Beach, starting by looking at where it is and looking at some of the different things that are there before we put them in chronological order thinking about which parts are the oldest and which are from the present day. We put these in order on a timeline. Then, we compared photos of the Pleasure Beach from the past and present, including the flying machine which has been there from the opening day in 1894. Finally, we looked at the managing director Amanda Thompson and the influence she has had over the Pleasure Beach in recent years since she took the role in 2004. We have loved looking and learning about the Pleasure Beach in more detail.

Last week, we celebrated Music and Art day all about celebrating our identity. In Art, we explored portraits and representing ourselves in portrait form. We practiced different mark making techniques that would help us when drawing before identifying shapes on our faces. Then we used all our knowledge to draw and colour a portrait. In music, we created a lemotif in small groups that represents us.
Year 2- Wigan Warriors Workshop
Date: 25th Jun 2024 @ 2:54pm
Today, we had a visit from Josh from Wigan Warriors Rugby Club. He did a workshop with us teaching us how to hold the ball and we played various games that involved us travelling with the ball safely in two hands and begun to practice our catching skills, throwing it a short distance to a partner. We ended the session by learning how to score a try in Rugby and practiced by trying to collect as many cones as we could in a relay race, tapping the ball on the cone to collect it and score the points. The children loved learning some basic rugby skills and enjoyed the session.
Date: 25th Jun 2024 @ 2:40pm
Yesterday, Year Two participated in our annual Sports Day. Children took part in a variety of activities from throwing practice to running races and games like dishes and domes. The children had a fantastic afternoon and were great sports people, supporting each other no matter what team they were in. Well done everyone!

Today was our annual Year 5 Takeover Morning and Year 2 were lucky to spend the morning being taught by Mr Fleming, Mr Bell, Mr Hudson, Mr Zaleski and Mr Rhodes. We started off with Maths where we recapped our 2x, 5x and 10x multiplication facts. We played Hit The Button and then we completed independent tasks where we had to apply our 2x, 5x and 10x table knowledge.
After break we looked at word classes in Reading into Writing. We revisited nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. We identified them in sentences and discussed what their uses were. We then worked in groups to complete a sorting game.
We thoroughly enjoyed our morning with our Takeover teachers, we all worked hard and tried our very best for them and we hope that we have given them an idea of what it is like to work in a school.
Date: 19th Jun 2024 @ 5:01pm
Today we visited Martin Mere Wetland Centre as part of our Science consolidation. We got to explore the wetlands and see the different animals that habit there and looked at some of their features. We also completed some activities to help us connect with nature and become friends with it and value the things we have in natural environments.
Date: 17th Jun 2024 @ 4:42pm
Last week, we conducted an experiment to see which material would be the best to use for windows in the three little pigs house. We decided we wanted it to be translucent so some light could pass through but would be difficult for the wolf to see the pigs. We tested a variety of materials to see whether they were opaque, translucent or transparent.
Year 2- Exploring Improvisation
Date: 22nd May 2024 @ 7:37am
This half term in Music, we have been exploring improvisation. Throughout the unit, we have listened to and appraised different styles of music as well as learning to sing songs, improvise using body percussion instruments and perform different pieces in small groups and as a whole class.
Year 2- Position and Direction
Date: 22nd May 2024 @ 7:35am
This week, Year Two have began their position and direction Maths unit. Yesterday, we described movement in straight lines by working with a partner to follow a set of instructions to move a counter around a grid in the correct direction. We had to understand positional language including: forwards, backwards, left and right which linked to our Programming unit of Beebots. Our knowledge from the Computing unit helped us to use the vocabulary correctly and apply it in a different area of the curriculum.
Year 2- Character Descriptions
Date: 17th May 2024 @ 7:50am
This week, Year Two were lucky to have a visit from author Dan Worsley. We began the morning by participating in a storytelling assembly where Dan kindly shared one of his stories with us before he came to visit our classroom and delivered a descriptive writing workshop with us. As part of our Reading into Writing unit, Twisted Fairytales, we picked a character from famous fairytale and created our own evil troll that we could use in our final write. Some of us were lucky and got to put on Dan's storytelling waistcoat to share some of our descriptive sentences. Thank you to Dan for coming in, we all really enjoyed the workshop and it has inspired us to write some incredible twisted fairytales.
Date: 14th May 2024 @ 4:40pm
This half term, Year Two have been exploring algorithms and how to programme floor robots. So far we have looked at making predictions as to what the outcome will be of an algorithm before designing our own mats and this week creating an algorithm to get the robot from one square to another avoiding the obsticals we also placed down.
Date: 10th May 2024 @ 7:54am
Yesterday, Year Two welcomed Matt from from Hope Community Church who came to talk to us as part of our current RE unit- Christianity The Church exploring the key question 'What unites the Christian community?' Matt discussed the symbols of Christianity with us before discussing different items found in a church and the uses they have, he also taught us why Christians come together on a Sunday to pray, sing and read stories from the Bible. Lastly, he talked about baptism and allowed some of us to perfrom a baptism as well as sharing bread and juice with those who wished to take part.
Year 1 and Year 2 Move for Mental Health
Date: 7th May 2024 @ 8:03am
This week as part of Mental Health Awareness week Year 1 and Year 2 have been exploring how exercise keeps us healthy both physically and mentally. We have continued to complete our daily four laps of the playground and found lots of different ways to keep moving for our whole break time! During Always Time this week, we also danced outside to music and created chalk art.
Year 2 - Finding three quarters
Date: 1st May 2024 @ 8:54pm
We have been using cubes to find three quarters of given amounts. First we had to count out the whole, then we had to share the whole into four equal groups. Each of these groups represented a quarter. Finally, we added three of the equal groups to find three quarters. This is a tricky concept, but we all worked well on this and we have deepened our understanding of non-unit fractions and finding a fraction of an amount.
Date: 1st May 2024 @ 5:11pm
This half term, in PE, we have been practising our Gymnastics skills. For a few weeks we have been practising different types of rolls and different ways of travelling. This week, we explored how we can balance on different amounts of body parts and tested how good our balances were by balancing cones on us. Some of us were very creative at finding different ways to get the cones to balance.
Year 2- Continuous line drawing
Date: 26th Apr 2024 @ 4:12pm
This week, we moved on from creating patterns with nature to exploring different drawing techniques. We focused on continuous line drawings and after some careful modelling, the children had a go at creating some continuous line drawings of objects from nature including flowers, sticks, acorns and leaves. The children really tried to focus on the shapes they could see, lines and paid attention to the smaller details of dealing with natural resources. They were all incredibly proud of their drawings and couldn't believe how fantastic they were!
Date: 24th Apr 2024 @ 12:00pm
Today, as we continue with our fractions unit, we used the ones to find a third of an amount. We carefully counted the correct amount of ones before sharing the whole amount into 3 equal groups. We were able to apply our knowledge of finding halves and quarters of amounts to help us find thirds.
Year 2- Making Patterns with Nature
Date: 19th Apr 2024 @ 7:09am
Yesterday, Year Two created pieces of art by thinking about patterns they could create using different types of lines, shapes, overlapping, layering and filling taking inspiration from our artist Alice Fox who collects things in her allotment and uses them to create her art. The children had time to explore the materials we were using and then experimented with creating different pieces of art. Once we had our final piece we evaluated it for it's effectiveness thinking about what we liked about it and reflected on the techniques we had used.
Date: 17th Apr 2024 @ 7:24am
Yesterday, Year Two completed no pen morning alongside the rest of the School. In Reading into Writing, we developed our digital literacy skills using the Chromebooks to read a teacher model and find all the different features on SeeSaw. In Maths, we completed a cutting and sticking activity to help us with recognising equal or unequal parts in a range of pictorial representations to begin our new fractions unit.
