Poo In The Zoo!

Date: 8th Jul 2021 @ 2:01pm

This week we have been reading the story "Poo in the zoo" by Steve Smallman. Poor old Bob the zoo keeper has a lot of poo to clean up at the zoo and one day, to his surprise he finds some glowing poo! The children have loved the story and as well as raising many giggles, we have also found out about herbivores and carnivores and the different foods the eat, discovered a very special insect called a Firefly, made our own sun catcher fireflies and also found some fireflies in our curiosity cube!

The Balloon Olympics!

Date: 1st Jul 2021 @ 3:09pm

For Sports Day this year Nursery took part in some fun balloon games. We practised skills included passing, throwing and catching and also developed our team work skills! We had so much fun and there were balloons flying everywhere!

Do You Want Fries With That?

Date: 30th Jun 2021 @ 12:18pm

This week we have changed our role play area in to a take away burger bar. We discovered that we didn't have enough burgers & the children decided that we could make some. They got some cardboard and we cut out some circles. The children then coloured them in to make burgers and buns. The Burger Bar has been create for developing speech and language and building relationships. It hasn't been so good for the teachers waist lines though! They've never eaten so many burgers and chips!

There's a Whole Lot of Hatching Going On!

Date: 24th Jun 2021 @ 3:25pm

What an exciting week it's been in nursery! We have been closely watching the dinosaur eggs that arrived on Monday and when we came to school on Thursday the baby dinosaurs had hatched out of the eggs! The children have been really engaged with the dinosaurs and have been doing some drawings of the eggs, making up stores together with our toy dinosaurs and even made some dinosaurs out of bricks!

Dinosaurs weren't the only thing to visit us this week! We also had a visit from the ducklings that hatched in the Reception class! The children were fasinated by the ducklings and treated them with great care. What a busy week!

What's In The Cube?

Date: 22nd Jun 2021 @ 9:01pm

Something exciting is happening in nursery this week! Inside our curiosity cube we found four dinosaur eggs! We have been looking closely for signs that the dinosaurs might be ready to hatch and we're sure we heard some tapping! We will keep you posted!

Now Press Play - Under The Sea

Date: 17th Jun 2021 @ 3:04pm

The Nursery chilldren took part in a "Now Press Play" activity. Each child had a set of headphones (which they tried so hard to turn on by themselves) and listened to a story set under the sea! They had to listen carefully and follow some instructions and we all went for a swim in the sea, rowed a boat and became a pirate, a jelly fish and a crab!

Spirals!

Date: 17th Jun 2021 @ 2:51pm

We have been reading a super story this week called "Sharing A Shell" By Julia Donaldson. The children really loved the story and were able to talk about the charcters in the story and the different things they did. We also looked really closely at the different patterns on shells and in particular the spiral. We then created our own spirals by drawing, printing and even baking  - our chocolate swirls were deleicious!

Life's A Beach!

Date: 8th Jun 2021 @ 4:18pm

We have had a very sunny start to the new half term - the beach arrived at Nursery! The children have had so much fun playing in our role play beach area. They have been on picnics, bought ice creams and even went for a paddle in the sea! Let's hope the sunshine lasts!

Shapes!

Date: 19th May 2021 @ 5:05pm

It's been all about shapes in Nursery this week! The chidlren have done so well learning the names of some 2D shapes and they have started to use the shapes to make pictures. We have also talked about shapes in the environment and went on a little shape hunt around nursery - it's amazing the amount of shapes we found!

Dinosaur Poop!

Date: 13th May 2021 @ 7:46pm

We had a bit of a stink in nursery today when we made some dinosaur poop! The children helped to measure and mix all of the ingredients and then they selected what sort of food the dinosaurs might eat. We decided they would probably have eaten some grass, leaves, nuts and seeds - can you see those things in our dinosaur poop?

Dinosaurs!

Date: 12th May 2021 @ 5:08pm

Dinosaurs have taken over in the nursery this week! - they are eveywhere! Inside, outside, in the playdough, in the paint and even on the maths table! The children have become paleontologists and have found some dinosaur bones and skeletons and they even made their own dinosaur fossils!

Here's a dinosaur joke for you. "What do you call a dinosaur with no eyes?" "A do-you-think-he -saurs!"

Lovely Fresh Air

Date: 6th May 2021 @ 4:47pm

The Nursery children love enjoying the outdoors. It is a great place for them to learn and they can use so many skills when they access the outdoor area. This week they have been painting on cling film which has been great for their physical development, looking for worms to go in our homemade wormery and exploring number and cause and effect in the water.

Grow Your Own

Date: 5th May 2021 @ 1:48pm

We have been having a great time with our growing topic this half term. We have planted cress, sunflower seeds and beans and we are now waiting for our caterpillars to make their cocoons! We have also been making the most of our outdoor area and planted some vegetable seeds. We are hoping that we get a crop of yummy carrots and delicious radishes!

Fruit Jelly

Date: 29th Apr 2021 @ 2:38pm

As part of the whole school DT week, Nursery made fruit jellies. The children tasted different types of fruit including strawberries, raspberries and blueberries and decided which fruits they would like to put in their jelly. Then, they very carefully cut up some fruits ready to put in the jelly pots. Have a look at the photos and follow the instructions to make your own delicious fruit jelly!

Green Fingers

Date: 27th Apr 2021 @ 4:21pm

We are continuing our growing theme this week - this time with plants! So far we have planted some cress seeds and sunflower seeds and talked about all the things they need to grow. Fingers crossed we all have green fingers and our seeds will start to grow!

Beautiful Butterfly Wings

Date: 22nd Apr 2021 @ 3:07pm

We have carried on looking at the life cycle of a butterfly this week and have enjoyed watching our caterpillars getting bigger! We have also been looking closely at the wings of butterflies and noticed that both wings are exactly the same! They are symmetrical!

Tiny Caterpillars

Date: 20th Apr 2021 @ 2:59pm

We were all very excited when some caterpillars arrived in nursery! We have been watching them closely and have noticed that they are eating lots of food and have started to grow bigger. We have been having lots of discussions about the life cycle of a butterfly and we have been learning new words like cocoon, chrysalis and metamorphosis! We will keep you updated about our caterpillars metamorphosis in to butterflies!
