To help us understand Anti-Bullying Day, we talked about how we are all different with our own likes and dislikes and how we all look different. We read the story "It's Ok to be Different" By Todd Parr. This is a great story to explore our differences with young children and we had some super discussions about what makes us special. We all wore odd socks too to embrace being different!

Nursery have been talking about Remembrance Day and why we wear poppies and then painted their own poppies. The children did a super job of painting a circle for the petals and lines for the stalk - they even made a small black dot in the middle. They selected the correct colours and the finished paintings were brilliant.

There's been alot of pop, whizz, bang, whoosh and crackle in nursery this week as we have been celebrating Bonfire Night. The children enjoyed sharing their experiences of Bonfire Night and were able to recall the fireworks they saw. They described the fireworks using words like "big", "loud" and "bright". It was lovely to hear them talking about their experiences and making links between what they had seen and what their freinds had seen.

Nursery have been reading the story "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" By Michael Rosen and have been having such a good time! The story has a repetitive text which is great for encouraging children to join in with stories. From the story we have had so many wonderful experiences including adding music to the story, making binoculars, making bears and making some delicious biscuits. To finish of the week we even went on our very own Bear Hunt and found the bear hiding in the woods with a delicious treat for us.

To help develop their listening and attention skills, the nursery children have been enjoying some exciting music sessions. During the sessions they have the opportunity to play some instruments including maraquitas and tambourines and have to listen carefully so they can copy a beat. Music time is also great for developing early phonics skills as the children learn songs and rhymes, listen to how sounds can be changed and tap simple beats.

Nursery have enjoyed reading "Owl Babies" by Martin Waddell. The story is all about three baby owls who worry that their mummy won't come back when she flies off to hunt for some food. Of course everything is ok and their Mummy comes back! The children have been doing lots of owl based activites in continuous provision including making playdough owl babies, making owls at the craft table, building nests for the owls, using tweezers to pull worms out of the mud and retelling the story using our beautiful Owl Babies tuff tray. As well as all of this, we have also been practicing counting to 3 by putting 3 owls on a branch.

This is so important as it has a big impact on their fine motor muscles and how they can grip a pencil. There are many ways for children to do this from climbing, jumping, stretching a pouring. The children always have a great time!

Date: 13th Sep 2022 @ 8:35pm
We are lucky to have a wonderful outdoor area in nursery and everyone takes pride in keeping the area neat and tidy. The children love caring for the plants and creatures that are living in the garden and work together to keep it looking fabulous. This week the children have been busy picking up the litter that gets blown in. Using the litter pickers is a great way of developing fine motor skills! They have also been sharing the hose pipe and watering cans to keep the plants healthy and building realtionships with each other at the same time. Speaking of relationships, we found a new friend in our garden - a giant slug! We were all fasinated by the little fella and wanted to make sure he didn't go hungry. What else would you feed a slug but the carrots growing in the garden!

We have been reading the story "What The Ladybird Heard At The Seaside" By Julia Donaldson and have created lots of learning opportunites based on the story. We have been practsing our scissor skills by cutting the mermaids hair - it was very tough and sticky just like in the story! We have been counting spots on to ladybirds and subisiting how many spots we can see and learring all about the letter L by making ladybirds out of the letter. We have created some beautfiul transient art pictures of mermaids and made some spinning ladybirds to hang from the ceiling.

Nursery have loved exploring music outside this week and the music wall has been well used! The children have been tapping beats, playing the bells and noticed the different sounds you get when you use wooden and metal beaters on the instruments. Did you know if you tap the bottom of a drain pipe with a flip flop you get a wonderful deep sound and an upside down bucket makes a brilliant drum!
