Cut It, Peg It, Share It!

Date: 22nd Oct 2020 @ 5:02pm

We have had such a busy and fun half term! It has been a pleasure getting to know all of our new starters and we have done so much exploring and investigating. We finished off this half term talking about similarities and differences for Black History month and the children were able to talk about how they were similar to their friends. We have also been practising our cutting skills, developing our fine motor skills by pegging numbers on to a washing line and talking part in collaborative play with activities in the tuff tray.

Numbers, Dancing and Squeegees!

Date: 15th Oct 2020 @ 4:34pm

Another week has gone whizzing by! This week we have been learning all about Numberblocks 1, 2 and 3! We have done lots of counting and have been sorting groups of objects. We have also been developing our gross motor skills by using the water and squeegees outside. On Thursday, everyone in school thought about Mental Health and in Nursery we thought about ways to feel happy when you are feeling sad. We decided that dancing was a great way to cheer yourself up, so we all had a good dance!

What A Whopper!

Date: 8th Oct 2020 @ 3:44pm

This week we have been reading the story "The Gigantic Turnip". We have had so much fun learning lots of new words to describe something that is big - ginormous, massive, huge, colossal, giant! The children have been practising using one handed tools by carefully cutting up different vegetables, they have also been printing with different vegetables and giving the. Alongside all of this, they have been using the doctors equipment in the role play area. We might juts have some budding surgeons amongst us!

Jungle Boogie

Date: 1st Oct 2020 @ 3:44pm

Down in the jungle where nobody goes there were lots of nursery children exploring animals this week! We have been learning the Animal Boogie, chasing after jungle animals that escaped, making jungle shakers and baking elephant cookies! The jungle animals have been everywhere! In the water, in the play dough and even outside. If you listened carefully, you might even have heard the roar of a tiger or the chitter chatter of a monkey!

Owls, Dens and Friends!

Date: 27th Sep 2020 @ 10:18pm

We are having so much fun getting to know each other and the children are starting to make friendships and everyones confidence is growing daily. This week we read the story "Owl Babies" and talked about feeling sad when our own Mummy's go. We discussed how we know that we are safe in Nursery and that our Mummy's will come back! We made some play dough owls, owl puppets, practised our funky fingers by catching worms with tweezers and practised our counting by putting 3 owls on a tree.

As well as lots of owl fun, we also worked together this week to build dens. The children found some sticks and said they were going to make a camp fire. We talked about when you might use a camp fire and this opened up a lovely discussion about  camping. We gathered together lots of resources and built some lovely dens for camping!

What a busy and fun week!

A Week Full Of Colour

Date: 17th Sep 2020 @ 9:58pm

It has been an explosion of colour in nursery this week! We have been reading "The Colour Monster" a story about a monster who changes colour depending on how he is feeling. When he is happy he turns yellow, if you we could change colour, I think we would all have been yellow this week because we've had so much fun! The children have been making their own monsters and exploring the different colours. They have also been building relationships with each other by sharing and working together when playing outside.

Nursery Is Back!

Date: 11th Sep 2020 @ 8:00pm

What a great two weeks we have had in Nursery! Our existing children have settled straight back in and our new children are doing really well learning our nursery routines and making new friends. We can't wait to share our adventures with you this year - it's going to be fab!

Changes to Home Time Arrangements

Date: 3rd Sep 2020 @ 4:18pm

Changes to home time arrangements

As we have now been open for a number of days we have noticed a concerning lack of social distancing by parents and carers. Therefore, we are enhancing our COVID Safe rules.

We recommend that face coverings are worn by all parents and carers who are medically able to do so – staff will also be wearing face coverings.

To further ensure safe exiting at the end of the date, we will now stagger the collection times:

Year 3 – finish at 3:15pm

Year 4 – finish at 3:10pm

Year 5 – finish at 3:20pm

Year 6 – finish at 3:25pm

As always, for those parents/carers who have to collect children from Nursery, Reception and Key Stage 1, staff will still wait with your child until you can collect them from their designated zone.

Nursery, Reception, Years 1, 2 and 3

There will be no changes to Reception and Key Stage 1 at this time, however, this situation is under constant review. Please remember, do not call your child over to you, they will be brought to you by a member of staff.

Please follow these new procedures to help keep your child safe.

Supertato To The Rescue!

Date: 16th Mar 2020 @ 3:23pm

Meet Supertato! This week in Nursery we have read the story ‘Supertato,’ and learnt about the caped potato superhero fighting to save the world from the arch villain – the Evil Pea!  We have been practising our Supertato story telling skills with our Superhero story basket, with added special characters made by Mrs Welch! We have also been creating our own evil peas, and exploring our Funky Fingers area using trays of peas and mashers, evil pea threading and potatoes, sticks and capes! We have been mark making with carrots, printing with celery and broccoli and even taking part in a Superhero obstacle course!

One Sunny Afternoon!

Date: 13th Mar 2020 @ 5:12pm

Today, we made the most of the nice weather and explored the playground and play equipment with our afternoon Nursery children. We started off by playing different circle games, practising rolling the ball and following instructions to play each game. We then started to move around the area, walking, jumping, skipping, running and even hopping! After we had warmed up we each had a turn on the equipment. We all had to wait patiently, as balancing on the beams was quite tricky, so a lot of us needed help from our teachers! We all travelled up and across the ramp, across the chains, and back down the ramp before having a well deserved rest at the end! We all enjoyed exploring the equipment and didn't want to come back in to Nursery for home time!

Sport Relief

Date: 13th Mar 2020 @ 4:55pm

This morning our Nursery children joined with Reception to take part in some Sport Relief activities! Lots of children had come prepared in their sportswear, and we were all excited to join in! We each joined a different group in the hall and moved around each activity, until we had all had a go on each one! We took part in basketball, hockey and even balloon tennis! We took turns with the Reception children, and they all helped to show us what to do if we weren't sure! When we got back to Nursery we talked about the effect the exercise we had been doing had had on our body. We noticed we were hot, our hearts were beating fast and our cheeks were red!

Superheroes Unite!

Date: 13th Mar 2020 @ 4:39pm

Welcome to our 'Superhero Headquarters!' Nursery has been transformed into superhero world this week! Our writing area has become a top secret den, where we could leave secret messages with our spy writing pens! We could keep these secret from our enemies as only Nursery children have the tools to be able to read the top secret messages! Our home corner turned into an enemies lair, with laser beams across the walls, hiding the precious treasure, 'The Boundary Diamond.' We had a top secret mission to rescue the diamond by manoeuvring between the lasers, being very very careful not to touch them and set off the alarm! We have also been exploring materials this week, by investigating which material would make the best cape for our superhero, and then using this knowledge to design and make our own cape and cuffs! We put each material through a test to see which was strong enough to be fit for a superhero! In our Maths are we have explored Numicon city, using different pieces to match tower outlines, and exploring the matching superhero numbers! Some of us have even been matching numeral to quantity using our superhero character numbers, and our special treasure gems!

Teepee Tales!

Date: 6th Mar 2020 @ 9:10am

Today we joined Reception for Mrs. G Teepee Tales. We firstly looked at the front cover of the book, discussing what we thought the book might be about. We figured out it was about a dinosaur, but not just any dinosaur, a dinosaur that had lost his roar! We all listened very carefully to the story, some of us were even chosen to become characters from the story, and we all joined in with our favourite part, 'ROAAAAAAR.' Some of our children were then lucky enough to be able to buy a book to take home with them.

World Book Day!

Date: 5th Mar 2020 @ 4:35pm

Today it is World Book Day, and we have had a very exciting day! We started the day by coming in Nursery, but not in our school uniform! We were all dressed as characters from our favourite story. We had characters from 'Peter Rabbit,' 'Funny Bones' and even 'Harry Potter!' During carpet time we all talked about who we were, and why we liked the story our character was from. We then took part in different World Book Day activities, including making a bookmark to keep our place in our favourite story! We finished off each Nursery session with a story before home time. Everyone in Nursery made a fantastic effort for the day, thank you for your support!

Journey & Transport

Date: 6th Mar 2020 @ 4:22pm

This week in Nursery we have been exploring different types of transport. We have read and discussed lots of different vehicle books, talking about where we might travel using each type of transport. In our construction area we have made roads using bricks, play dough tools and construction site vehicles. We have also made a track for large vehicles made with planks, that we have explored using the bus and trains we have made using large cardboard boxes. We have investigated the marks different vehicles make using shaving foam, paint and vehicles, as well as setting up our own car wash to wash the dirty vehicles in afterwards! In our Funky Fingers area we have been using nuts and bolts, and putting stickers onto the different types of wheels! We have even explored remote control vehicles, looking at how to turn them on and how we can move them without using our hands!

The Adventures of the Naughty Bus

Date: 28th Feb 2020 @ 4:22pm

This week our story has been ‘The Naughty Bus.’ We started the week by reading and discussing the story, talking about our own experiences of where some of us have been on a bus journey! We have been building towns and roads in our construction area, making stop signs at the writing table, and adding a certain number of people onto the bus in our maths area. We have also painted a big box that we have turned into a bus for our role-play area. We all had a great time, taking it in turns to be different parts of the bus, setting up a bus stop, and handing our tickets to the driver when the bus arrived! Firstly, we painted the bus red, found circle shapes for wheels and cut out some rectangular shapes for windows. We’ve been on lots of bus journeys to different places, giving our bus ticket to the driver and him taking us where we wanted to go!

Perfect Pancakes!

Date: 28th Feb 2020 @ 4:09pm

This week we celebrated Pancake Day! We read the story ‘Mr Wolf’s Pancakes,’ and talked about what we thought we might need to make our own pancakes. In our special box we then found the ingredients we needed to make pancakes, including some instructions for us to follow from Mr Wolf! We looked at the numbers to help us follow the instructions, starting at number 1, following the words and pictures all the way to number 6, which was eating the pancakes! Yum! We worked in small groups to weigh and sieve the flour, pour in the milk and egg and whisk the mixture together. We all had a turn at each stage until we had made a batter; our teachers then took this into the kitchen to cook in the frying pan. We all tried the pancakes before home time; some of us even tried lemon and sugar as a topping! We also made pancakes in our Play Dough area, which we put into small frying pans to try and flip and take part in Pancake races! In our Maths area we also used dice and different pancake toppings to create a pancake. We rolled the dice and added the correct number of toppings onto each pancake. We had toppings of strawberries, blueberries, orange and even chocolate!

Valentines Day

Date: 17th Feb 2020 @ 7:29pm

Alongside our learning about recycling this week, we have also been taking parts in Valentines Day activities. We have been exploring shape and symmetry by making symmetrical hearts using paper and paint, practising our counting by making love bugs, and explored mark making with shaving foam and flowers. We have also made and completed maths puzzles, matching halves of hearts with numbers on one side and dots on the other. We have continued to explore ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ using our story telling basket and table, and lots of our children in Nursery have enjoyed ordering and retelling the story. We have been making Valentines cards and messages at our writing tables, and we have even created love potions! We hope you all have a lovely half term break and stay safe.

Fit 2 Go!

Date: 13th Feb 2020 @ 1:00pm

The adults from Fit 2 Go have visited us in Nursery for the past few weeks. This week we talked about the importance of having a balanced and healthy diet, and what can happen if we don't. We firstly had to 'brush our teeth,' using a laminated set of teeth and a whiteboard pen, we had to draw the plaque onto our teeth, before cleaning it all off again! We had to make sure we went in between each tooth so that they were clean, shiny and bright! We then had two pictures of two very different teeth. One was a happy tooth, and we had to make sure we fed it healthy foods to keep it happy and healthy. The other picture was an unhappy tooth, who showed us what our teeth may be like if we choose to eat lots of sugary foods and don't clean our teeth enough!  We then took part in some active exercise to finish off the session, working on our teamwork and balance skills!

Eco Warriors - Nursery Children helping to save our future planet!

Date: 13th Feb 2020 @ 12:37pm

This week we have taken part in lots of recycling activities. Firstly, we talked about how to look after our planet and the importance of recycling. This linked to our previous knowledge of Eco Bricks, as we have been building them as part of a whole school project for the last few months. As part of our BLT for last week we were asked to either start to make our own Eco Bricks or bring some plastic bits and pieces into Nursery. Lots of children brought in bits to help us on our school project of making Eco Bricks. Our teachers in Nursery then cut up the big bits of plastic into smaller bits so we could use a long stick to push the bits of plastic into the bottles. We have also made pictures and models from recycled bits, along with cleaning out our water tray after someone had put a lot of plastic in there! We all enjoyed learning about how and what we can recycle, and how we can look after the planet for our future.
