Nursery did a wonderful science experiment this week to make a rainbow! We needed kitchen towel, felt tip pens and two small bowls of water. We coloured a small rainbow at the bottom of the kitchen towel and when we placed it in water, the rainbow grew! This is becasue the fibres in the kitchen roll have lots of little holes. Water is absorbed throught the kitchen roll becasue when the first water molecule sticks to it and begind to move up, it pulls the next water molecules up with it, like a chain!

Our sensory story was Supertato. We loved listening to the story and exploring the Superveggies!! We had a selection of vegetables to touch, smell and taste before matching them to the correct cards. We also made fruit kebabs and loved tasting a variety of fruit and strengthening our fine motor skills, threading the fruit onto skewers. We counted potatoes and vegetables during maths and even made our own Supertato art work. We finished the week off wearing bright and sporty outfits and developing some turn taking skills during our activities.

Last week, we conducted an experiment to see which material would be the best to use for windows in the three little pigs house. We decided we wanted it to be translucent so some light could pass through but would be difficult for the wolf to see the pigs. We tested a variety of materials to see whether they were opaque, translucent or transparent.

We continued our 'Mechanical Systems' unit by finding our more about pulleys and gears. We learned how pulleys an gears can be used in mechanical systems before experimenting making different gear chains. We also made pulleys from wooden dowel and cotton reels.
