Today we were visited by the coastguards who gave us a talk on water safety and how to stay safe when we are at the beach. Advice included what to do if we find ourselves in trouble in the water and what to do if someone we are with finds themselves in trouble.

Nursery enjoyed exploring oranges and lemons this week. They squeezed and squeezed until all the juice came out and then made some delicious fruit cocktails. They had to learn to take turns with the squeezers and did really well waiting their turn.

This week Reception held their Sports Day. It was a lovely , warm , sunny morning and everyone was in high spirits! The children were cheering each other on, taking turns, playing fairly, showing respect and following the rules- true sportsmanship! They also tried their very best and showed resilience too.
They took part in running races, welly throwing, beanbag races, speed jumps and cup stacking.
"I threw my welly really far" Luca.
"The speed bumps were really tricky- jumping really fast" Elektra.
"I tried my very best at running- I nearly won!" Niko.

Yesterday, Year Two participated in our annual Sports Day. Children took part in a variety of activities from throwing practice to running races and games like dishes and domes. The children had a fantastic afternoon and were great sports people, supporting each other no matter what team they were in. Well done everyone!

Today, we all enjoyed takeover day with our Year 5 teachers! We were very excited to meet our new teachers and TAs and all tried our very best with everything they asked us to do.
After assembly, we began the morning by reading the story 'More or less' to recap our understanding of how to find one more and one less than a given number. We then used our knowledge to find one more and one less for given numbers within 100, showing our Year 5 teachers how we record our learning independently on Seesaw.
We then learnt how to draw a portrait of ourselves. Mr Ridley showed us a great example of his own portrait and gave us step by step instructions to follow.
We all had a super morning!

There are lots of opportunites for the children to work collaboratively in nursery as its a great way to develop communication and language skills and PSED skills. This week we have been reading story "The Singing Mermaid" By Juila Donaldson and the chidlren worlked togerher the create a beautiful tail for the mermaid.

Today the children in Year 5 took over the school, taking on the roles of all the staff!
Mrs Clarke and Mrs Farley were replaced by Mr Conlon and Miss McKenzie and the teaching assistants were replaced by Mr Clarke, Miss Pownall, Miss Homer and Mr Collier.
Holly Class and Willow Class enjoyed listening to the story Supertato followed by exciting activites, such as painting, writing and role playing.
Miss Mckenzie "I enjoyed today, especially reading with the children in the Book Nook and Reading Den."
Mr Clarke " It was a really good morning. I enjoyed helping the children with their learning."
Miss Pownall " I loved helping the children outside."
Mr Collier " I liked teaching them the duck life cycle."
Miss Homer " I liked helping them to paint a rainbow."
Mr Conlon " I read lots of stories to them, that was my favoutrite part of the morning."

The children in Year 5 had the opportunity to talk about a variety of careers such as The Sandcastle, Occupational Therapy at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, DWP Digtal Jobs, Handels Bank and The Ministry of Defence.
The children thoroughly enjoyed their morning learning about these different occupations and it has given them an insight into a future that they would like to have for themselves. Another huge thank you to everyone who was involved!
Year 6 - Barclays Life Skills Workshop

We were lucky to receive a visit from Elini, who delivered a Barclays life skill work shop on the subject of safe and sensible spending. The session focussed on how to keep money safe and introduced specific terminology such as fraud and scam. We then went on to look in detail at an email and identifed things to look out for if it was fraud or a scam. Finally we moved on to look at sensible spending including budgeting and saving.

This week Reception have been continuing to have lots of fun in PE.
Mr Humble had them learning the fundamental skills of catching, throwing, running and listening through an imaginary world of castles, dragons and knights.

In History, we looked at VE day. We studied various sources to see what VE day celebrations were really like and we looked at similarities and differences between the celebrations and discussed in teams whether they were reliable sources or not. We also looked at why VE day was not such a happy time for everyone!

Today we looked at the use of Murti in Hindu worship. We learnt that Murtis are often colourful and bright and that Hindus give offerings to them. We then looked at lots of different examples of Murtis, including both Gods and Goddesses, and looked at why Hindus may worship them. We then chose a Murti to represent using salt dough, thinking about why Hindus may choose this Murti to worship. Again, we discussed how these are used as a way of showing respect to the different roles of God.

All of the pupils in year 5 had a great experience at Blackpool's Grand Theatre watching the amazing new show, The Boy at the Back of the Class; based on the book by

What a great morning we have had with Krishna our Hindu visitor. Firstly, we had a whole school assembly where we recapped the story of Diwali and were introduced to the characters. When we returned to class we recap what we had learnt so far this year about different religions including a 'flash back' to our work on Divali.

Reception- The very Hungry Caterpillar

We have been reading the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
It is about a very hungry caterpillar that consumes a variety of foods before making a cocoon and becoming a butterfly.
We have had lots of fun retelling the story with our friends using stick puppets, painting a caterpillar, creating our own caterpillar using art resources and making a paper plate butterfly.
Finally, we wrote about our favourite part of the story.

Yesterday, Year Two welcomed Matt from from Hope Community Church who came to talk to us as part of our current RE unit- Christianity The Church exploring the key question 'What unites the Christian community?' Matt discussed the symbols of Christianity with us before discussing different items found in a church and the uses they have, he also taught us why Christians come together on a Sunday to pray, sing and read stories from the Bible. Lastly, he talked about baptism and allowed some of us to perfrom a baptism as well as sharing bread and juice with those who wished to take part.
Year 5 - Hamlet with the Royal Shakespeare Company

We are please to share with you some of the official performance photos from the RSC Playmaking Festival. Year 5 pupils from Boundary worked with a director from the RSC to perform part of Hamlet, which was combined with performaces from other schools to tell the whole story. The performances were fantastic and we were pleased to be able to offer this amazing experience to our pupils.

In PE, we have been developing our striking and fielding skills. We have finally been able to put these skills into practise and we have started to play a game of cricket.
Acorns - Healthy Eating & Lifestyles

This week Acorns have been exploring how to keep ourselves healthy. We have experienced lots of fun sensory activities to learn about healthy eating and keeping our bodies healthy. We even found giant grapes in our 'Bucket' activity. We particularly enjoyed making and trying fruit kebabs. Strawberries were a definite favourite and we loved watching ourselves move in the big mirrors.

On Tuesday Holly Class visited Blackpool Zoo. It was a beautiful, warm, sunny Spring day and everyone enjoyed visiting all the different animals and the habitats they live in. Some were hot, some were wet and some were very smelly!
We saw lions, tigers, zebras, monkeys, gorillas, orangutans, flamingoes, pelicans, farm animals, wolves, lemurs, parrots, camels, elephants and many more! We watched the sea lion show, and learnt a few interesting facts, and had an exciting classroom experience where we looked at parrot feathers, camel fur, a turtle shell, a huge elephant tooth and some of us were even brave enough to hold a cockroach!

"What a huge tooth- it's so heavy I can't lift up properly!" Mathew.
Year 5 - Shakespeare Aspiring Actors

This term several of the year 5 pupils have been rehearsing for their performance of William Shakespeare's, Hamlet. Pupils had to learn their parts so they would be 'off script' for the performance, and develop their own take on the characters and dialogue. The attached photos are from our final dress rehearsal, where they were directed and encouraged by Emma Manton from the Royal Shakespeare Company. The pupils delivered an amazing performance on the night, and we are all excited to share the professional photos from the performance when they arrive.

In RE, we looked at the Vaisakhi festival. We looked at traditional jewellery and clothing, learnt about the traditions of the festival and even got to try some traditional foods. We had a great time and enjoyed learning about a different culture.

We invited our nursery families in for an Easter themed stay and play this week. The children had a great time doing Easter crafts with their families and making an Easter biscuit. We also has a special visitor from Communicate who came in to share information about supporting children with their communication and langauge.
