Today Year 6 were visited by 2 local magistrates. They gave the children information about the role of a magistrate and how they make their decisions when it comes to choosing the punishments given to those who have broken the law. We then acted out a mock trial where a child had been found guilty of cyber bullying through sending mean and threatening messages to another girl. We all enjoyed taking on our roles and acting them out.

This morning our KS2 boys football team travelled to Stanley Park to take part in the Utilita Cup, organised by Blackpool FC Community Trust. The tournament saw our boys placed into a group facing various schools from across the Fylde Coast.
The team battled well, representing Boundary well and putting their all into their performances. Falling short in the group stages meant we missed out on the semi-finals but the boys showed real determination, some fantastic skills and positive play against tough opponents.

Today we had a visit from Debby Savage, a local PSCO, who delivered a 2-hour talk to Year 6 about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. We had the chance to look at imitation drugs to know what they look like so that we know to avoid them as we get older - we were shocked to learn that some drugs can be disguised as sweets! She also told us the dangers of smoking and vaping. We learned that cigarettes are made up of lots of different parts - many of which can be very dangerous, such as amonia, glycerin, candle wax. Thank you Debby for such an informative talk.
Year 6 Stereotyping, Prejudice and Discrimination
Date: 15th Nov 2022 @ 5:38pm
As part of antibullying week, Year 6 have been focusing on stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination. We explored the meaning of each word before going on to find out how they can affect people. As part of the lesson, we completed two activities. In the first one, we looked at real news articles and discussed what prejudice had been shown and whom it was directed towards. The second activiity was based in the TV show 'The Apprentice'. We had to select an engineer for a project and 'fire' people based on information provided. We discussed prejudice and discrimination based on name, age, skin colour, disability, gender and sexuality.

Reception have been busy learning about Remembrance Day and why we wear a poppy.
They collaged poppies, painted poppies and created poppies using loose parts. On Friday 11th November we joined the whole school and planted a poppy in The Boundary Remembrance Garden, followed by a Remembrance Service, led by Year 6.

On Friday 11th November, Boundary Primary took part in a whole school act of Remembrance.
It began with all the children, from Nursery to Year 6, planting the poppies they had made in our Remembrance Garden.
Then, at 11am, the school came together for an outdoor assembly. We all observed a two minutes silence and listened to important information and historical facts about the significance of the poppies we were wearing.
During the week, each class took part in painting, drawing or sketching a poppy and each year group was also given a silhouette of a soldier which they were asked to decorate around the theme of Remembrance. This activity focussed all our minds on who we were remembering and why it is important to remember them. The completed soldiers were then displayed around the school hall and will remain there – helping us to think about those who gave their lives during war and those who continue to serve to keep us and our country safe.
Year 4 - Anti Bullying and Oracy
Date: 14th Nov 2022 @ 7:04pm
This morning we had an assembly with Mrs Clark and the ABAs (Anti Bullying Ambassadors) about Anti Bullying week. The theme this year is all about reaching out. As a year group our focus was on the roles that different people play in bullying and we very much focused on not being a bystanding but being an upstander! This year in school we are really promoting talk and oracy. We have provided the children with lots of sentence stems and sentence starters to help with their oracy skills. During today's work about Anti Bullying it was great to see some of the children using their oracy skills so fluently.

Today, alongside the whole School, we celebrated Remembrance Day. We begun the morning by going and planting our poppies with a soldiers name on in our School Remembrance Garden before taking part in our remembrance service. We also observed a 2 minute silence at 11am spending the time reflecting on those who lost their lives to give us ours. Well done Year 2, you showed excellent respect.
Date: 11th Nov 2022 @ 10:15am
This morning we have been and planted our poppies in our Remembrance Garden at the front of school. The children were really respectful and thought about those who fought and continue to fight for our country.

Today, Year 2 had a very special visit from 3 firefighters from the Blackpool Fire Station near Stanley Park. The 3 firefighters talked to the children all about fire safety and what to do in the event of being in a fire themselves. Firstly, they showed us all their different equipment that helps keep them safe when they are working before teaching us what to do. We learnt so much including: how to test if the fire is close to a closed door, how to stop smoke leaking into the room we are in and taught us to remember 3 very important words: Get out, Stay out and call 999. They even tasked us to go home, find where our smoke alarms are located and ensure they work. The children loved meeting the firefighters and listened intently.

Today in PSHE, Year 4 looked at what qualities it takes for people to be a good friend. We had a discussion around what characteristics we look for in people and how these help them to be a good friend to somebody. We then picked the most important six qualities that we thought would make the 'ultimate' friend. Lots of great discussion again in Year 4.

Nursery have been talking about Remembrance Day and why we wear poppies and then painted their own poppies. The children did a super job of painting a circle for the petals and lines for the stalk - they even made a small black dot in the middle. They selected the correct colours and the finished paintings were brilliant.
Year 6 Remembrance Day preparation

In Preparation for Remembrance Day on Friday, we have spent time this week making our poppies for our Remembrance Garden. We have also completed our piece of art work that links with the art we do in Yer 6. We have created large scale poppies and used a range of pictures to build up light and dark areas on the poppy.

Well done to the girls who played their first match against Devonshire this yesterday. They didn't win but they worked hard and showed great resilience
Date: 6th Nov 2022 @ 11:08am
In the lead up to Remembrance Day on 11th November, Year Two have been creating poppies in Art. We glued two sticks together to create the cross and used our weaving skills to weave red wool through a template. This created a cross on the front and a square on the back, when we removed the cardboard template it created the shape of the poppy. It took a lot of perseverance to ensure we followed the number sequence correctly but everyone did very well!

As we get closer to Remembrance Day Year Three have been using charcoal to draw poppies. We experimented with water colours, oil pastels and felt tips to create the red poppies.
Date: 3rd Nov 2022 @ 1:54pm
Today we have studied poppies and use our observational drawing skills to draw poppies, shading them with pencil crayons carefully. The aim is that we make a repeating pattern that can be used as part of our Remembrance display Soldier. We have taken great care and concentrated, whilst listening to music that would typically be played and performed at the cenotaph, including Abide with me and Elgar's Nimrod played by the orchestra. This allowed us to reflect on the soldiers who have fought or died for our country.

This year we are really focusing on our handwriting. This afternoon we did some activities to help support our handwriting practise. Please encourage your children to practise at home too. After we went over some tricky letter formations, we wrote a poem for Remembrance Day for our Year 4 display.

Today the children have enjoyed taking part in lots of halloween activities. They enjoyed counting out spooky objects and ordering numbers, making repeated patterns with scary objects, creating their own potions, carving pumpkins, collaging bats and pumpkins, role playing in the witches kitchen and even using our phonics to sound out spooky words. We have been talking about different family traditions and discussed how different families celebrate in a range of ways. The children have had a fantastic time. Have a look at our wonderful learning.

Today, we began the start of our new half term by enjoying a DT day!
Firstly, we looked at existing products to explore the different mechanisms and moving parts in a range of picture books. We talked about how the moving part moves, how it works and what effect it has.
We then began to make two prototypes, a lever and a slider. We linked each mechanism to a story to create a moving picture for each. We all talked through the safety points and watched our teachers make an example, reading through the instructions together and spotting where they went wrong! We then each had a turn to follow the instructions, read them carefully and make our two prototypes.
We verbally evaluated our desgins, talking about what had gone well and what we could improve next time.
