Year 6 - Art Day

Date: 23rd Mar 2023 @ 2:47pm

Year 6 had a day filled with art and collage. We looked at different art work created using collage before experimenting in our sketchbooks with different types of collage -  including ripping and cutting paper. In the afternoon, we worked collaboratively to create collage art work based on famous Blackpool landmarks. The finished pieces are brilliant!

Year 4 - Art Day

Date: 23rd Mar 2023 @ 2:40pm

To start Art Day off we were lucky enough to take part in an Art themed Primary Future event. We had 5 attendees and we asked them:

  • Do you need to wear a uniform?
  • Do you ever work outside?
  • Did you have to go to college and/or university?
  • Do you work with children?
  • Do you travel in your job?
  • Do you need specialist equipment?

Once each volunteer answered the questions we had a guess at what their job was. There were some great guesses! Then is was revealed that we had a graphic designer, UX designer, painting conservator, tattoo artist and an upcycling artist. Their jobs sounded super interesting and it was great to speak to them. Afterwards, we researched some more about their jobs.

In the afternoon, we had a Blackpool theme based around Photomontage (collage). We used our cutting and collaging skills to create a beach scene from pictures of food and drink which you might eat at the beach.

Nursery Find Some Poo in the Zoo

Date: 16th Mar 2023 @ 11:37am

It's not everyday you go to school and are allowed to talk about poo but that's exactly what happened this week in nursery! We read the story "Poo in the Zoo" all about a zoo keeper who is always cleaning up the animals poop. That is until one day when an Iguana eats some fireflies and ends up doing an amazing glowing poo! The zoo keeper sells the magical poo to Hector Gloop who collects poo (yuk!) and buys himself a Robot Pooper Scooper with the money! The children really enjoyed the story and made their own magical poos, counted poos, and painted some tiger stripes. We talked about herbivores and carniviores and added leafs to the playdough to create herbivore poo. For health and safety puproses, no real poo was used the process!

Nursery Explore Space

Date: 16th Mar 2023 @ 11:24am

Nursery took part in science day by exploring space through art, maths and music. They created a wonderful piece of collaborative art work showing a super outer space scene. They then created their own space pictures. Using shapes, the children then made some 3D rockets. They thought carefully about the shapes they would need and where to put them. To end the day, the children enjoyed a space themed music session. They sang "Zoom, Zoom, Zoom" and sent planets soaring in to the air using the parachute!

Year 1 Astronaut Art

Date: 10th Mar 2023 @ 7:21pm

As part of our Science Day, we also completed some astronaut art to show what we might see if we were to look outside the window of a spaceship. We watched a video to explore what astronauts might see from their spaceship and used that alongside photgraphs to inspire our own art. We used oil pastels and collage to create our pieces.

Year 2 Science Day

Date: 10th Mar 2023 @ 4:20pm

Today, alongside the whole school we celebrated Science Day with our theme of Space and year two were tasked with learning about the sun. We begun the day by watching videos about the sun and learnt lots of facts including: it would take 20 years to fly to the sun from Earth, the sun is the centre of the solar system, Earth orbits the sun and completes 1 full orbit every year and the sun is actually a star made up of gases. We recorded our information on strips of card and stuck them down as sun rays beaming out of our big sun in the middle. Next, we used our new knowledge of obitting to model how the Earth orbits the sun and the moon orbits the Earth and learnt it takes 28 days for the moon to orbit the Earth- our models also helped us imagine the size difference between the sun, moon and Earth. The excitement continued as we visited the space wonder dome exploring stars, the sun, the moon and all the other planets which we named. We also were fully immersed and amazed by exploring what it would look like and feel like in space. During the afternoon, we got more creative listening to two pieces of space themed music- the final countdown as well as Holst Venus and appraised them. We also thought about the similarities and differences between the two pieces of music. Lastly, we ended our exciting day by creating our own sun art using different techniques including pointilism to complete our paintings.

Year 5 - Science Day

Date: 10th Mar 2023 @ 4:05pm

Year 5 have had a fantastic day learning about the 1969 Moon landing, as part of National Science Day 2023.  Pupils watch actual footage of the Moon landing, watched documentary footage and read newspaper articles about the event. We had an amazing oportunity to visit the Wonder Dome, where we were taken on a guided tour of the Milky Way, and beyond, which the children loved. The children then created a space picture, using a variety of techniques including pencil sketches and a watercolour wash.

Soaring into Space!

Date: 10th Mar 2023 @ 3:37pm

What a day! Today we celebrated Science day with a focus on space. We were lucky enough to have the brilliant Wonderdome visit our school for an amazing space experience. The children absolutely loved it. Throughout the day each year had their own focus from astronauts to constellations. Not only did we learn many scientific facts, we also created beautiful art, pieces of writing and listened to space themed music.

Year 4 - Science Day

Date: 10th Mar 2023 @ 2:07pm

Wow! What a great Science Day! First thing this morning we were treated to a visit in the Wonderdome. We had an amazing Solar System experience where we found out lots about our planets, moons and stars. We couldn't believe the size of some of the planets and super stars compared to Earth. It really was mindblowing. Then in the afternoon we did some planet Art with oil pastels.

Year 6 - Science Day

Date: 10th Mar 2023 @ 11:25am

Our focus for this year's science day was space. We recapped on everything we knew about planets from our lessons in Year 5, before moving on to learn about constellations. We listened to space themed music including the Planets by Holst and Space Odessy by David Bowie. Finally, we created constellation art work. A great day!

Nursery - Dear Zoo

Date: 9th Mar 2023 @ 9:26am

We have been readig the story "Dear Zoo" and have enjoyed exploring all the animals from the story. The children have investigated farm animals and zoo animals and sorted them in to two groups and they have made up stories about zoo animals using the zoo small world. The children have painted some wonderful pictures of zoo animals and made some swirly snakes. Outside they built cages for animals using magnetic shapes, made playdough zoo animals and created some food for the animals.

Nursery are Superheroes!

Date: 2nd Mar 2023 @ 8:49pm

Nursery have been undertaking their superhero training this week. They had to complete a superhero obstacle course being careful not to fall in the river of crocodiles and making their way carefully down the slide of snakes! They designed and made their own superhero cuff that gave them superpowers and made their own masks. There were lots of superhero activities including measuring superheroes, rescuing the superheroes who had been captured by the baddies and making up stories using the small world figures. We also read a fab story called "There's A Superhero In Your Book" by Tom Fletcher. It has been a super week!

Today was the first day of our new art journey. This unit focuses on activisim and looks at how to use words and images to create strong messages. Today we discussed what activism is and words associated with it. We then created a double-page spread linked to what we had been discussing.

Nursery Find a Pea on the Loose!

Date: 26th Feb 2023 @ 5:15pm

We had to be very careful in Nursery this week as there was an evil pea on the loose! We read the story "Supertato" and discovered that the peas had escaped from the nursery freezer! Luckily we managed to find them all with the help of the Wanted posters the children created. Then we discovered peas trapped in jelly and the children had to use their fine motor muscles to try and pull them out using tweezers. We explored lots of different vegetables and create some really delicious looking vegetable soup. The children even made their own evil pea and supertato using materials to create collages. Now we have to keep checking to make sure there are no more esca-peas!

Nursery Try and Stop the Naughty Bus

Date: 20th Feb 2023 @ 10:08am

We have been reading a super story called "The Naughty Bus" all about a little red bus who gets himself in to all sorts of trouble! The chilldren have enjoyed making their own buses using chairs, painting pictures of buses and playing a bus counting game. We decided that the bus needed stopping so we made stop signs. The children worked hard writing the letter "s" and loved holding up their stop sighs for the naughty bus!

Nursery - Why Did Your Snowman Melt?

Date: 12th Jan 2023 @ 4:57pm

Nursery have been talking about winter and what it looks and feels like. We thought about the different types of weather you can get during the winter and of course we started talking about snow. We talked about it being really cold when it snows and when it starts to get warmer the snow will melt. This led us on nicely to an activity where the children created a melted snowman using shaving foam and PVA glue. They then had to think carefully about why their snowman melted. Here are some of the children's ideas; My snowman melted becasue "of the sun" "he had a warm bath" "i put him near the fire". Why did your snowman melt?

Year 1 Flora and Fauna

Date: 10th Jan 2023 @ 6:28pm

This week we have begun our art journey 'Flora and Fauna.'

We have looked at artists who use drawing as a way to capture the way plants and insects look, and artists who use their imagination to create their own versions of flora and fauna.

We have spent time engaging in observational drawing to build our drawing skils, alongside experimenting with new materials. We have also practised our cutting and collage skills to explore shape and colour to build images.

Finally we used these skills to create our own individual mini beast collages.

Reception - Here Comes Jack Frost

Date: 9th Jan 2023 @ 9:28pm

The story, 'Here Comes Jack Frost' is full of Wintery magic! One cold morning, a lonely boy wishes for something to do. Then someone comes to play that knows what Winter is all about! The striking colours and simple illustrations were copied byt the children in Reception. They created their own picture from the story, using white paint, drizzled with PVA glue and then a sprinkling of glitter.

"The frost was everywhere because it is very cold" Alfie.

"They went sledging on the ice" Dolly- Anne.

"Jack Frost turned everything white- the frost is white" Clio.

"The frost went when the weather got warmer and a flower grew- it melted because it is warm" Halleigh.

Reception- The Winter Season

Date: 9th Jan 2023 @ 9:02pm

The children in Reception have been learning about the season Winter. They have been observing changes in the weather, discussing the type of clothes they wear and learning about animals that hibernate during this time of year. We then painted a Winter tree.

They also painted a Winter tree and talked about how trees look different in Winter.

"It is cold in Winter...it might snow or be frosty" William.

"The trees are bare because the leaves have all died and there are none left on the branches" Lennox.

"It is cold that is why we wear a hat, scarf, gloves and boots- to keep warm".Harper.

"Bears and hedgehogs hibernate in Winter- they go to sleep for a long time" Sheera.

Year 2 Christmas Art

Date: 15th Dec 2022 @ 7:30pm

Today, Christmas arrived and we made some Christmas Snowflakes. Once we had glued our sticks together and painting them white, we used our weaving skills learnt through our previous Art journey to wrap white or blue wool around our sticks to create our snowflake. We finished our snowflakes with glitter and sequins.

R.E so far this half-term...

Date: 15th Dec 2022 @ 8:06am

In Reception we have been learning about special times. We have celebrated Diwali by learning lots about Hindu and Sikh traditions, including how they prepare their homes and where they go to pray. We also made and painted diya lamps, created rangoli patterns, took part in some traditional dancing and tried on some of the traditional clothing and jewellery.

In Year 1 we have been answering the key question, ‘why is Jesus special to Christians?’ We have learnt how new life is celebrated, why we should give babies love and care and why we should help others who cannot help themselves. We have also completed lots of work around the nativity story. We have sequenced and retold the story, talked about the important roles of the characters and the important message. We also went on a trip to St Marks church where we impressed Reverend Mathew with all our knowledge about Christianity so far.

Year 2 have been exploring the key question ‘why do Christians say that Jesus is the light of the world?' After discussing the Christian story and exploring different lights we began exploring Christingle. We learnt that Christingles are a symbol of advent and were taught what each part of a christingle symbolism is.

Year 3 have been looking at Islam and the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). We have looked at what a good role model is and why Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is important to Muslims. We read a range of stories surrounding the prophet and focussed on which characteristics he demonstrated and how this made him a role model. As a class we looked at the third pillar of Islam Zakat, and considered how we could be charitable in our own lives.

In Year 4, we have been learning about Hinduism and how Hindus live their lives. We learnt all about the story of Rama and Sita and how this story can help Hindus live a good life in today’s society. Through the story, we learnt that displaying positive characteristics in life will always put you on the right track.

Year 5 have been learning about where Muslims find guidance and why the Qur'an is an important part of their lives. We then looked at where we find guidance and what or who supports us.

Year 6 has been learning about Hinduism. We have explored the 4 Ashramas (stages of a Hindu's life), reincarnation and the Sacred Thread ceremony. The children have been reflecting on their own lives and have planned their own ceremony for when they leave primary school.

Year 3- Snowflake art!

Date: 14th Dec 2022 @ 1:19pm

Today we were inspired by the story The Little Snowflake and created our own snowflakes. We used water colours, oil pastels and glitter to bring them to life.

Year 1 RE Christmas Art

Date: 13th Dec 2022 @ 6:59pm

Today we completed some RE art to show an important event in the story – when the three wise men travelled to see baby Jesus. We created silhouettes of the three wise men on their journey and used collage to create a colourful design for the wise men’s clothing. We ripped, scrunched, cut and twisted crepe paper to create our design. Some of us also created and used patterns within our design.

Year 2 Making Shapes

Date: 8th Dec 2022 @ 2:35pm

Today, in Maths, we practiced making 2D shapes using paper art straws for their sides and playdough for the shapes vertices. Whilst making each shape we had to think about the correct number of sides and vertices each shape had and correctly label them once we had made them. Tomorrow we will use our knowledge to draw them using geoboards.
