Nursery learnt all about Remembrance Day and spent time thinking about members of the Armed Forces. The children planted poppies and then took apart in the whole school Remembrance Service. They also painted some beautiful poppies for the soldiers.

As part of our Remembrance service, Year 5 made and planted poppies in our remembrance garden. Each of the children wrote names of soldiers and we thought about their sacrifice when we planted them. The children also took part in our whole school act of remembrance.

Today, Year Two celebrated Remembrance Day by participating in our whole school service thinking about why we conduct a minutes silence and why we remember those who have/are fighting in battles around the world. We also drew and painted our own poppies and planted some poppies in our Remembrance Garden- each poppy had a soldiers name on it to remember those who lost their lives in WW1.
Year 4 - Remembrance Day Celebration

Today we were part of our annual Remembrance Day Celebration. Last week, we used our art skills to make poppies out of clay and paint them with acrylic paint.
Acorns - Funnybones and Fireworks

Acorns have been reading Funnybones this week. We have enjoyed our sensory story and learning the skeleton dance, exploring how the bones make up our bodies.
Acorns also engaged in a variety of activities to explore bonfire night. We enjoyed our sensory tuff trays and painting fireworks.

Acorns have been exploring Remembrance Day in class through video and art experiences. We planted our poppies this morning to remember those who have passed.

The children loved using some open ended resources to create their own rocks, They had to select the pieces they wanted and decide how they would attach them together. They also had to chat to their friends about the resources and share and take turns.
Nursery Go Up with a Whizz, Bang, Pop

Nursery have been learning all about fireworks and have got very sparkly in the process! We have been practising our mark making skills to create some wonderful firework pictures, made some star soup outside and created some firework sparklers.
Reception- Remember, remember the 5th of November

Today the children in Reception have been participating in lots of different 'Bonfire Night' themed activities. Firstly we learnt about why many people celebrate Bonfire Night including learning about the story of the Gunpowder Plot. We talked about the different traditions we have with our families including going to a firework display, lighting sparklers and enjoying a bonfire. The children enjoyed making their own Bonfire Night pictures using a range of different meduims and materials. collaging rockets and using loose parts to make transient art pictures. Outside the children were practising their fine motor and physical skills by making firework pictures in our mark making area.
As a class we also discussed the importance of keeping ourselves safe during these exciting celebrations.

This week we have introduced Remembrance Day to our class, focusing on why we have a Remembrance Day and why poppies are used to symbolise this important day.
Children in Year 5 produced a range of beautiful poppy art to decorate a fallen soldier. We had to use special techniques to create the different drawing and sketching techniques.
This is the start of a two-week period we have in school to remember and honour members of the armed forces.

In Art, we have started learning about gestural drawing which will be the focus of our pathway this half term. The children looked at a range of poppies and drew observational sketches. This links to thinking about remembrance and the importance of considering those we have lost.

Acorns have been reading Room on the Broom, while exploring Halloween this week. We have enjoyed our sensory story, using props and puppets while listening to the story.
We have participated in lots of spooky activities to support or learning.
We loved using our sensory and messy trays to support and engage with maths activities, develop our fine motor skills and developing our social skills alongside each other.
During Arts and crafts we created pumpkins and ghosts.

During the final week of the first half term, we had a discussion about who inspires us to show goodness in the world and compared our role models.
Next, we created some rangoli patterns using coloured rice. Rangoli, which means rows of colours, is drawn on the entrance and filled with colours during Diwali. They are used to welcome guests and Lakshmi into homes. We took our time creating the intricate patterns and created some brilliant art work!

This week Acorns have been reading the Colour Monster. We have had lots of fun exploring colours, colour mixing and emotions linked to our story.
Pupils have explored colour sorting and matching in maths, learning new makaton signs for colours and looking at their faces in mirrors, making different emotions.

Acorns have been enjoying the book 'You Choose' to explore and develop their understanding about choice and making a choice.
We have encouraged Acorns to make different choices throughout the week in all aspects of their learning and play.
Acorns have enjoyed a multi-sensory approach to making choices. We loved choosing different hats to wear, different outfits, especially super hero's, to dress up in and different tools to explore with in art and mark making.
We also used visuals to support our choice making during snack and lunch times.

This week we brought all our learning about spirals and lines together to create a new snail shell for 'Normal the Slug with the Silly Shell.' We read the story together, before designing our own spiral shells for Norman, using pastels and chalk.

Acorns have been reading Owl Babies. We have had lots of fun engaging with the sensory story.
Acorns have enjoyed the owl theme running through their learning experiences in maths, mark making and even developing their cutting skills. We even made our very own owls in art.
The best bit was getting to meet the owls when they came to visit!

Nursery have thoroughly enjoyed reading "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" by Michael Rosen. They can all join in beautifully with the story and loved using musical instuements to make the sound of swishy swashy grass and squelchy squerchy mud. They created some fabulous bear puppets, counted and sorted bears by colour and even baked some delicious bear paw print biscuits.

Acorns have enjoyed exploring and learning about Harvest this week. We have learnt about the different crops we can harvest and the role of the farmer.
We enjoyed using our tractor in the sensory tray and digging for different vegetables. We loved using the vegetables to print and mark make with.

Today we began our spiral journey! We looked at examples together first, talking about what we could see in different examples of spirals, before going outside and practising ourselves! We used lots of different resources including chalks, pastels and pencils, to create both big and small spirals.

In this art lesson, pupils began to design and create their 3D map. The children used the island map from Kensuke's Kingdom as a starting point and added their own features and used pencil lines to create textures. Next lesson, the pupils will add 3D elements to make their map come to life.

This week, Reception have been listening to the story Rosie's Walk. This is a story about Rosie the hen who goes for a walk around the farmyard but is unaware of the sneaky, clumsy fox who is following behind her!
The story explores the use of prepositions, across, around, past, through, under and over.
We sequenced the story using prepositional language, collaged a fox, used small world figures to retell the story and made an obstacle course to act out the story.

The children have really enjoyed listening to the story "Owl Babies". It's a great story for resssuring those who might be a little unsettled that mummy or daddy will always come back and get them, The children have been practising counting by making three owls to go on tree. They have been building their fine motor muscles by collecting worms for the owls to eat and have created some super owl art work.

Over the last few weeks, Reception have been talking about their themselves an their families. This week, we have been paying particular attention to what we look like- especially our faces.
We realised we all have different coloured hair and eyes, different length and styles of hair and even our skin is a different colour to others.
We painted self portraits and also made a paper plate of our faces too.

Today, pupils in year 5 started thier new art journey. We have been exploring typography, with pupils creating their own letter shapes. In future lessons they will be creating a map and adding thier own typography to make it look more interesting.
