The second activiity was based in the TV show 'The Apprentice'. We had to select an engineer for a project and 'fire' people based on information provided. We discussed prejudice and discrimination based on name, age, skin colour, disability, gender and sexuality.

To see this in action, we used a glass full of water and dropped a pencil crayon in the glass. We observed that the pencil crayon looked broken and distorted due to refraction occuring. We also learned that refraction can make objects appear to turn in the opposite direction. We foudn this out by placing an arrow behind the glass ad moving it slowly horizontally. We saw that the arrow appeared to change direction.

Matthew and Jeni came to speak to Year 6 about sin, resurrection and salvation.
Matthew used the example of a 'Do not touch' sign as sin and that if Christians ignore the instructions from God and sin, this can become a habit and we can 'stick' with sinning - and Matthew got 'stuck' to the chair.
We discussed that Christians believe that, through talking with God, they can repent and ask for forgiveness and seek salvation from our wrong choices.
There was an opportunity at the end of the session to ask questions about the key words used during the session and Year 6 discussed the types of questions they wanted to ask, recorded them and then took part in a thoughtful question and answer time.

Over time, they were able to gather precious raw materials in order to sell and trade with other Maya states. In turn, as states grew powerful, they were able to attack and conquer neighbouring cities and claim their land.
