Year 6: Blog items
Date: 6th Sep 2021 @ 7:48pm
What a great first day back we have all had! Our WOW this afternoon was all based around teamwork - we discussed as classes the importance this year of working together and the characteristics we need to demonstrate in order to achieve our goals. Mrs. Hamilton and Mr. Jones planned a series of orienteering courses for us to work through as teams; the aim was to show our teachers just how well we can work together and communicate. It was tricky at times but most of us managed to finish the 8 courses through good teamwork and collaboration.

As we're approaching the starting line for our move to high school, we had the pleasure of speaking to Matt and Jen from the Trinity Parish about transitioning from primary school to high school. We had a great discussion about what worries we had and what we were most looking forward to. It was good to discuss and listen to what other people felt about their move to high school!

It was the last of our activities! Who will win? Your guess is as good as ours! We took part in more team games: over and under, side to side, elbow passing and speed bouncing. There wasn't a particular team who won all of the games so this means it must be tight between the winners! We can't wait to find out which team takes the Number 1 spot! Fingers crossed it's your team...

Football and Netball with Alan
Date: 25th Jun 2021 @ 8:11am
This week, we had a brilliant PE session with Alan Williams. We split up into 2 groups. and each group played in a football and netball match. After 30 minutes, we swapped over. We learnt many skills to succeed: working well as a team, accurate passing, on target shooting and good sportmanship. We thoroughly enjoy our PE sessions and can't wait to see what's in store for next week!

This week we have all taken part in our statutory RSE (relationship and sex education) lessons. In Year 6 we have looked at the changes that happen to our body during puberty as well as human reproduction and the science behind how babies are conceived. We have also looked at relationships and what makes a healthy/unhealthy relationship. This has also included the concept of consent and what it means - we have learned that it is ok to tell people if we don't enjoy physical contact and how to respond to people.
Now Press Play - A Viking's Tale
Date: 16th Jun 2021 @ 4:53pm
Today we took part in an immersive listening experience where we listened to a story about the Viking's. We had to follow the story and use actions throughout when prompted. These made us have a better understanding of what was being told within the story as well as it being incredibly fun! We can't for our next 'Now Press Play' experience!
Date: 15th Jun 2021 @ 2:50pm
Today we began our final unit in French - La Seconde Guerre Mondiale (The Second World War). Firstly, we had to use Google translate to work out the meaning of a range of words in French so that we had a good understanding of the words we were going to learn about in this unit. We then used the words we had translated to translate long sentences related to WWII. We will build on our understanding of new vocabulary over the next 5 sessions.

Today, we took part in the #Take10 challenge. The event began with a 10 minute live event with the author Anthony Horowitz, who discussed what kind of books he enjoys reading and how he got into writing books. We all then read together for 10 minutes, including the adults. We are going to try and make sure we read for 10 minutes every day as this can help improve our vocabulary, our imagination and helps with our mental health.

Today was the second day of our DT unit on making pizzas. We began the day by making the dough - we did this by following a simple recipe for the BBC
Date: 10th May 2021 @ 7:27am
Today we began our DT journey of making pizzas. We looked at what we already knew about pizzas, including how we make them. We began by tasting pizzas and evaluating what we liked/disliked. After that, we went into Redcliffes to make our pizza sauce. We read through the pizza sauce recipe and weighed out and measured the ingredients we needed. Then, we all had a go at chopping and peeling onions and garlic. After that, we mixed together all of the other ingredients: tinned tomatoes, tomato puree, oregano, basil, brown sugar and a bay leaf. We then heated the sauce through for 20 mins and set it cool. At the end of the day, we blitzed the sauce to make it smooth.

National Reading Champions Quiz
Date: 4th May 2021 @ 5:18pm
Today, 4 of our Year 6 children took part in the North West regional heat of the very first National Reading Champions Quiz. The quiz aims to raise the profile of reading with pupils across the country and to test their knowledge of a wide range of books. The quiz consisted of 10 different rounds and included rounds such as villains in books, identifying a novel from the first or last line and anagrams of characters/books. Our pupils were a credit to Boundary and they showed determination and resilience throughout the morning. The quiz lasted for over 2 and a half hours and the children were fully engaged and really worked as a team to try and answer the questions. Although we didn't finish in the top 3, we did manage to answer a lot of the questions correctly and we were only 10 marks away from the school who finished in first place. We look forward to taking part in more experiences like this and with a wider range of pupils.

In English, we continued with our Quest stories and looked through the book
