Marvellous Musicals!

Fourteen children from Year Five took part in a musical theatre workshop with Georgia from the  Italia Conti Theatre School. Everyone loved learning to sing, act and dance musical numbers from the musical

A journey through the Americas

We began our new Geography topic - A journey through the Americas - with a quiz. We tested our general knowledge, working in teams. We then went on to use atlases and online maps to locate cities and physical geography features in North and South America.

Invasion Games and Ball Skills in Year Five.

Year Five enjoyed a coaching session with Alan Williams this week which had a focus on invasion games and ball skills. The children had to work well together as a team and focus on what the opposing team were doing. Everyone enjoyed the session!

 

Adding Fractions

Year 5 continued their fractions journey by learning how to add fractions with different denominators. We recapped on how to find a common denominator and then worked as a class to create a success criteria for adding fractions. After practising the skill by completing fluency questions, we solved some more complex reasoning and problem solving challenges. 

Going Dotty!

Year Five have been created art inspired by a short film called 'The Dot' and have had a fantastic afternoon creating their masterpieces!

The children either created their dotty pattern inside a circle or around a circle using a variety of bright colours. They ended up with some eye-catching creations!

Year Five are enjoying creating their gymnastic routines working as a team with a partner.

Over the last two weeks, Year Five have been creating routines in their gymnastics lessons. They have been mostly focusing on mirrored and matched balances, arabesques and different ways of travelling. Working together as a team was vitally important whilst devising their routines.

This week we continued our Computing lessons and spent more time cerating our own websites. The theme of of our work is the Ancient Greeks. This week, we learned how to insert a hyperlink and how to evaluate digital content to check for authenticity. 

Creating Graphs in Science

We continued our learning journey in Science this week and created two graphs. We learned about the gestation period of different mammals and then plotted a scatter graph to help us to spot patterns. We concluded that, in general, animals with a longer gestation period had a longer lifespan. We then looked at the growth of babies and plotted a line graph to show the different growth rates of boys and girls. 

Quel temps fait-il? (What is the weather?)

Our French learning continued this week and we started to learn how to answer the question: Quel temps fait-il? (which translates in English to 'What is the weather?') We started by revising classroom instructions and greetings before moving on to learn nine phrases that describe different types of weather. 

The Science of Ageing

Our first day as a full class since December and a super science lesson about the human timeline. We  started by looking at ourselves in the mirror and thinking about how our appearance would be different in 10 years. We then thought about how it would be different in 70 years! We looked at pictures of teachers from when they were young - it was very difficult to work out who they were! Finally, we learned the 6 stages of human development and created a human timeline. 

Amazing Ancient Greek Projects!

Year Five have come back to school today with some excellent Ancient Greek projects which they are now presenting to rest of the class and sharing all of their learning. The projects range from ICT presentations to models, posters and information books.

Topics include: Greek gods, food, homes, beliefs and clothing. The children were extremely proud to show the rest of the class their superb work! Well done Year Five!

Wonderful Lockdown Learning!

Wonderful Work in Year Five!

During lockdown, we have received some wonderful work from our Year Five students. Here are a few examples including work about the life of William Shakespeare, the music of the Beatles and aome excellent stop-motion ICT projects from our Key Worker bubble. The children have been extremely creative and should be proud of all of their hard work!

Ancient Greek Projects

Ancient Greek Projects - in school and at home

To kick off our new historty topic, we had a visit from an Ancient Greek. He talked to the children in school and those at home via Google Meet and told them all about his life in Ancient Greece. The children were then set a task of researching an aspect of Ancient Greek life and creating a project of their choice. We had some wonderful work that ranged from models to presentations and information texts. We are looking froward to continuing our history lessons when we return to school next week. 

No Device Day!

We've had a great day here in Blue Bubble without our devices. We have spent the day playing games, constructing shapes/towers with art straws and baking. We have made pizzas and peppermint creams and had lots of fun in the process. We are looking forward to having another day like this!!

Language Learning Continues in Lockdown

Lockdown has not stopped Year 5 from continuing their French lessons. We have started our new topic, which is learning how to say the date in French. This week children in school and those at home learned the months of the year. Did you know that the French do not use capital letters for the months?

The Year Five Bubble loved creating different structures!

The Year Five bubble spent their Design and Technology lesson creating different types of structures. They really enjoyed seeing what would be stable enough as a structure and tried to be as creative as they possibly could!

Online Learning - Important Information for Parents and Carers

The expectation remains that all learning will take place online during this period of Lockdown which was announced by the government would begin from the 5th January 202. Online work will be set each day by your child’s class teacher.
 
For Nursery, Reception and Years 1, 2, 3 and 4 this work will be set on SeeSaw and your child’s login details will be found in the front of their reading diary.
 
 
 
For Years 5 and 6 online learning will be set on Google Classroom and again, your child’s login details will be found in the front of their reading diary.
 
 
 
Both SeeSaw and Google Classroom can be accessed via a smartphone, tablet, iPad or laptop.
Since returning in September, we have worked hard with every child so that they are able to login to their online learning and know how to do this - we are very proud that a lot of children are now using these daily both in class and to submit their homework!
 
 
 
Your child’s class teacher will be in touch soon to ensure you are able to log on and to answer any questions you may have in regards to online learning.

BLT Spring 1 2021

We had a fantastic time participating in the Royal Ballet Nutcracker Workshop!

The children had an amazing opportunity today and took part in a zoom Royal Ballet School 'Nutcracker' workshop. The character that was particularly popular was the Mouse King and everyone loved acting as him through dance. They also learnt about the story behind the Nutcracker Ballet. 

In January, Year Three will be receiving weekly ballet lessons from the Royal Ballet and four older pupils are already part of the Royal Ballet Scheme after school.

 

'Annie' Musical Theatre Workshops.

Children from Year Five and Year Six really enjoyed their first musical theatre workshops with Georgia from Italia Conti. They are looking forward to their second set of workshops this Friday and cannot wait to be filmed performing numbers from the show early next year!
