Year 3 had a visit to our very own library, The Attic! We all picked a book that we wanted to read and found a comfy spot to enjoy some relaxing reading time. We then had a chat about what books we had picked, why we picked them and what they were about. We can't wait to go back and keep improving our reading skills.

This week, it was the beginning of Elm's turn to read with Mr Vincent and Bailey. Throughout, the half term different children will take it in turns to read to Bailey as well as enjoying stories shared by Mr Vincent to the whole class. This week, we enjoyed a story about a puppy who kept forgetting his name and we compared it to a story we have previously read 'Mog the forgetful cat'. The winners of reader of the week were Stevie and Joshua for excellent sounding out and expression for speech. Before Bailey went home we enjoyed blowing some bubbles for her to catch.

Reception Rosie the Hen went for a walk
Date: 28th Sep 2023 @ 10:53pm
This week the children have been reading the story 'Rosie's Walk'. It is about a little hen called Rosie who goes for a walk around the farmyard. But little does she know she is being followed by a very sneaky fox. The story explores the use of perpositions as Rosie goes over the hay stack, around the pond and under the beehive. The children have enjoyed being emersed in the story using the props at the story telling table to retell the story with their friends. They have been painting and collaging foxes as well as producing their own story maps. What a fantastic week of learning!

As part of our Reading into Writing journey, Year Two have been learning how to use conjunctions effectively to join clauses. We enjoyed working in small groups to match clauses with appropriate conjunctions. Once matched, we had to re-read the sentences carefully to make sure that they made sense with the chosen conjunction. We will continue to develop our understanding and start to use a wider range of conjunctions in our next piece of writing.

We were so thrilled to be visited by author, James Harris on Friday 7th July. He conducted a whole school assembly where he talked about writing books and how he got into it. James grew up in seaside town, near Middlesbrough (just like Blackpool). James definitely inspired some of our aspiring young writers to follow in his footsteps and begin writing their own books.

Today we were visited by children's author, James Harris. James entertained the whole school with a fantastic assembly and told us about himself and the books he has written. This afternoon, children in year 5 spend time with James and found out more about how he became a published author. We also used some of his methods to create interesting monsters, which we then made up stories about.
