Today we started our Dilemma story journey. At the start of our Reading into Writing journeys we immerse ourselves in the genre and pick out features to create a features list. The children we brilliant at remembering lots of different GPS we have learned over the year.
Ella-Rose wins the National Literacy Trust poetry prize!

During Thursday's assembly, Ella-Rose was presented with a bundle of books by Get Blackpool Reading as she won the National Literacy Trust poetry competition. Here is Ella-Rose’s poem:
"Litter, litter goes in the bin,
To throw it on the ground is a really big sin.
The earth is home to lots of creatures and bugs, they don't come in our home and throw litter on rugs.
Dont sin it, bin it! working together we can win it."
Ella's class were also given their own copy of "The Creature Choir" by David Walliams. Well done to everyone who took part!

This week we have been enjoying a great story called Bumble Bear all about a bear who loves honey so much he decides to join bee school! We have been exploring the striped pattern of the bumble bee, learning how bees make honey and making our own bees out of playdough. The children have also been following a step by step guide to draw a bee - great for learning how to follow instructions! Its been a very buzzzzzy week!
Reception- Jack and the Beanstalk

Reception have been reading the story Jack and the Beanstalk. After listening to the story, they were able to retell it using puppets, small world figures and Lego at the storytelling table. Here, they listened to each other, took turns to speak and used words and phrases spoken in the story. They also painted a beanstalk as a challenge and made their own using various craft resources from the creative area.

"The beanstalk grew very tall...it reached the clouds...Jack climbed all the way up to the Giant's castle" Ibrahim.

"The Giant chased Jack and Jack ran down the beanstalk very quickly and mum chopped it down!" William.

Reading stories is an important part of the chidlren's learning in nursery and each week we will read an engaging story that the children become familair with over the week. Throughout the week they begin to join in with familiar parts of the story, then begin to retell parts and answer questions about the story. There are always story props avaliable so the children can retell the story. All of this is a great way to develop the chidlren's communication and langauge skills.

We have started this half term by reading lots of examples of folktales. We found the features of a folktale, which we made a list of and then today we reread the folktales we read yesterday and highlighted them. We can't wait to get our creative juices flowing when we write our own.

This week we were lucky to have a visit from Dan Worsley. We looked at the importance of drafting and how we should not give up on the first try. Then we were treated to a Dan Worsley original story, that the children found inspiring, hilarious and creative!

Today we were treated to an assembly from Dan Worsley. Once again, he discussed what it takes to be an author and why he enjoys writing books so much. He then read a story from one his 'Impossible Tales' books, all about a boy with magical snot! Let's just say we were all pretty grossed out by it!

Today Year 1 enjoyed a fantastic story telling experience with Dan Worsley. We all used fantastic listening skills whilst Dan told us a very exciting, funny and engaging story 'Junk in the Trunk.' We could all remember lots of details from the story from the brilliant pictures Dan protrayed whilst using lots of description!
Year 5 - RSC: Sandgrown Shakespeare

We are very proud of the Year 5 children who performed in the Sandgrown Shakespeare show at The Grand Theatre on Tuesday night- Eviee's artwork even took pride of place on the front cover of the program!

We have been readig the story "Dear Zoo" and have enjoyed exploring all the animals from the story. The children have investigated farm animals and zoo animals and sorted them in to two groups and they have made up stories about zoo animals using the zoo small world. The children have painted some wonderful pictures of zoo animals and made some swirly snakes. Outside they built cages for animals using magnetic shapes, made playdough zoo animals and created some food for the animals.
Reception celebrate World Book Day

Today, alongside the whole School, Reception have celebrated World Book Day. The children have all dressed up as characters from some of their favourite books and all looked incredible- thank you for all the effort you have gone to! We had a special assembly where we were visited by an author Shane Hegarty. When we returned to class we enjoyed listening to some of our favourite stories, making book marks, role playing in our costumes and drawing and paint our favourite book characters. What a great day we had!

We had some visitors in Nursery today. Woody from Toy Story came for a snack, The Grufflo explored the maths area, we had a visit from Harry and his Bucketful of Dinosaurs, Little Red Riding Hood built a tower and Peter Rabbit hopped by! Then Dorethy came by with Toto the dog, Alice in Wonderland did some drawing and a Cheerleader shook her pom poms! Later they all sat together to make a bookmark. If only everyday could be like World Book Day!

Nursery have been undertaking their superhero training this week. They had to complete a superhero obstacle course being careful not to fall in the river of crocodiles and making their way carefully down the slide of snakes! They designed and made their own superhero cuff that gave them superpowers and made their own masks. There were lots of superhero activities including measuring superheroes, rescuing the superheroes who had been captured by the baddies and making up stories using the small world figures. We also read a fab story called "There's A Superhero In Your Book" by Tom Fletcher. It has been a super week!

We have all been looking forward to celebrating World Book Day!
Alongside our special assembly with Shane Hegarty, we also made reading crowns displaying our favourite books, completed traditional tale word searches, designed reading bookmarks and shared our favourite stories!
We all enjoyed coming to school as our favourite book character and celebrating our love of reading.

What great World Book Day outfits today! We had a brilliant assembly and then we did some activities which included a quiz and predicting then ending to our class book and creating our own ending.

Nursery Find a Pea on the Loose!

We had to be very careful in Nursery this week as there was an evil pea on the loose! We read the story "Supertato" and discovered that the peas had escaped from the nursery freezer! Luckily we managed to find them all with the help of the Wanted posters the children created. Then we discovered peas trapped in jelly and the children had to use their fine motor muscles to try and pull them out using tweezers. We explored lots of different vegetables and create some really delicious looking vegetable soup. The children even made their own evil pea and supertato using materials to create collages. Now we have to keep checking to make sure there are no more esca-peas!
Nursery Try and Stop the Naughty Bus

We have been reading a super story called "The Naughty Bus" all about a little red bus who gets himself in to all sorts of trouble! The chilldren have enjoyed making their own buses using chairs, painting pictures of buses and playing a bus counting game. We decided that the bus needed stopping so we made stop signs. The children worked hard writing the letter "s" and loved holding up their stop sighs for the naughty bus!

The children really enjoyed reading The Gingerbread Man this week and have used story props to retell the story and designed their own gingerbread man. To finish the week off we made our own gingerbread biscuits (luckily they didn't run away!). The children had to take turn with the mixing, help to measure out the ingredients and make sure they put the right number of buttons on the biscuits. The chidlren were excellent bakers and the biscuits tasted delicious!
