On Thursday, Reception took part in Forest School. It was a windy day but that didn't stop us wrapping up warm and venturing outside to search for animal footprints, insects and spinkle seeds to feed the birds.
We collected sticks to make a huge nest which we decided would be perfect for a big bird , such as an eagle and listened to a story and played some games too.

We discussed different drugs, such as nicotine, alcohol and a range of others that Debbie told us more about. Debbie showed us a range of replica drugs and the side effects of these drugs. We learned valuable lessons this afternoon that we hope will stay with us as we transition to high school.

Today we began to formalise the idea of addition as bringing two or more parts together to create a whole. We completed three different tasks that encouraged us to explore and focus on bringing two parts together. We used the correct mathematical language to explain, e.g. ‘3 cubes plus 5 cubes is equal to 8 cubes.’ Some of our grow ups joined us for ‘together time’ and we showed them how we use tens frames, counters, part whole models and cubes to support our learning.

Friday 17th November was Children In Need.
Children could join in and raise money for the charity by paying £1 to wear an item that was spotty.
In the afternoon the whole school came together for a special assembly to learn about how the money raised was spent and ended with everyone dancing to the popular song 'YMCA' .

Today, we used the Now Press Play equipment to explore bullying and teasing. The story was of a young boy who joined our school and became friends with two girls; however, one was jealous of the new attention divide and began teasing Hasaan (the new boy). We discussed as a class how some of the things Sofia did towards Hasaan were wrong and what we would have done in that situation to ensure it did not happen and we could get help.

Today we wore our spits and stripes in order to raise money for Children in Need. We had great fun in assemble dancing to the YMCA!

For anti-bullying day we wore odd socks to show that we celebrate differences. In Year 3 we focused on being an upstander not a bystander. We looked at what this meant and the ten steps we could take to achieve this. At the end of the lesson, we made a pledge on how we could be more of a upstander.
Date: 13th Nov 2023 @ 9:13pm
Today in Reception the children have been celebrating everyones differences by wearing odd socks. We talked about how everyone looks different, lkes different things and wears different clothes. We discussed how being different makes us all unique. We learnt the phrase "Everyone is different but everyone is special". The children used the different resources at the creative table to make their own odd socks.
In the afternoon we explored the importance of having kind words and actions and the characteristics of a good friend. The children created their own faces in the style of Andy Warhol. The talked about how all people look different and have different coloured skin, har and eyes and how it is important we are kind to them regardless of this.

This half-term, Year 4 our topic in science is Animals including Humans. Over the past couple of weeks, we have been looking at the functions of each one of our teeth. After this, we modelled our own teeth using playdough. We have also looked at why it is important that we brush our teeth twice a day. To test why we need to do this, we put 6 eggs into a range of different liquids and observed what happened to their shells. We found that the driinks with the most sugar caused the egg shells to decay and discolour. This showed us that too many sugary drinks can damage our teeth.

On Friday 10th November, Boundary Primary took part in a whole school act of Remembrance.
It began with all the children, from Nursery to Year 6, planting the poppies they had made in our Remembrance Garden.
Then, at 11am, the school came together for an outdoor assembly. We all observed a two minutes silence and listened to important historical facts about the significance of the poppies we were wearing.
During the week, each class took part in creating poppy art and each year group was also given a silhouette of a soldier which they were asked to decorate around the theme of Remembrance. This activity focussed all our minds on who we were remembering and why it is important to remember them. The completed soldiers were then displayed around the school hall and will remain there – helping us to think about those who gave their lives during war and those who continue to serve to keep us and our country safe.
Date: 10th Nov 2023 @ 10:19am
This week the children in Reception have been learning about Remembrance Day.
They started the week with their first visit to the hall for assembly about why we wear poppies, they also learnt about events that happened in the past in Blackpool, where they live.
Throughout the week, they were very busy painting and collaging poppies and also labelling poppies they had drawn. Some of their work was then placed on a sillhouette solldier to be displayed in the hall.
Finally, on Friiday, they joined the whole school by planting a hand made poppy in the Boundary Remembrance Garden, followed by an outdoor whole school Remembrance Service.

This week, it was the beginning of Elm's turn to read with Mr Vincent and Bailey. Throughout, the half term different children will take it in turns to read to Bailey as well as enjoying stories shared by Mr Vincent to the whole class. This week, we enjoyed a story about a puppy who kept forgetting his name and we compared it to a story we have previously read 'Mog the forgetful cat'. The winners of reader of the week were Stevie and Joshua for excellent sounding out and expression for speech. Before Bailey went home we enjoyed blowing some bubbles for her to catch.

School Council-'s First Meeting- Elmer's Big Parade
Date: 17th Oct 2023 @ 5:00pm
The School Council met today for the first time since the elections took place.
They were joined by a special guest, Miss Moyes, who was there to launch Elmer's Big Parade- the School Council's first big fund raising event.
Elmer's Parade is part of the Learning Programme where each school, nursery, college or community group will adopt an Elmer for £99 and pledge to raise a minimum of £850 for Brian House Children’s Hospice. They will receive a blank Mini Elmer sculpture to decorate and there will be a Learning Programme resource pack linked to the curriculum to help teachers stimulate young minds.
These mini Elmer sculptures will accompany our full-sized Elmers on display on the trail, allowing the children and young people, and their families, the chance to see them all and admire their great work. At the end of the trail, the Mini Elmers will be returned to their creators as a permanent legacy and celebration of their involvement.
The Mini Elmers will complement and add value to the main art trail, showcasing the creativity of schools and organisations in our community.
The school council were tasked with collating ideas from their classes as to how Boundary can begin to raise £850 for Brian House. They will meet again next half term with their ideas.

Today, alongside the whole School we participated in our termly no pen morning. We began the morning by consolidating our knowledge of telling the time to the nearest 5 minutes where we played a board game with a partner having to tell the time on the square we landed; this was also brilliant for our communication and turn taking skills as well as being able to support one another. Then, we continued our fantastic morning by beginning to sew our puppets together ready to be decorated; we carefully threaded the needle and tried to do a running stitch- we had to demonstrate good perseverence and resillience but we are excited to make our final product. Check back over the coming days to see our final puppets!

We were invited to take part in two fun festivals within Blackpool Zoo where each school will be given a map of the park to help them to solve the clues to find the right animals.
The children, chosen from Year 5, had a great morning with Mrs. Millar and Mr. Parsons supported by Leaders from Blackpool Sixth Form. Efficient map reading and a keen sense of time meant that we returned to the finish before the other schools – leaving us enough time to visit some of the animals not on our list (and the dinosaurs too!).

Over the last couple of weeks, Year 4 have been celebrating Black History Month in our PSHE and Reading into Writing lessons. This year, the main theme of Black History Month is 'Celebrating our Sisters.' Furthermore, our year group focus was sporting achievements. Therefore, in PSHE, we researched a range of Black British Women athletes who have made a significant impact on the sporting industry. We then used this to create our own artwork. This allowed us to discuss key words, such as diversity and culture, and emphasise the importance of appreciating similarities and differences between everyone.
In Reading into Writing, we have been working towards writing a non-chronological report about Lauren James. Firstly, we looked at some existing non-chonological reports about Lauren James before researching interesting facts about her early life and football career, including her biggest achievements. After this, we collated these facts into our own non-chronological reports.
We have found it very interesting to learn about all of the incredible Black British athletes and their amazing achivements and impact they have had on our history.
