On Monday this week we enjoyed our Christmas dinner and Christmas jumper day. We arrived at school very excited and festive, complete with Christmas jumpers and accessories. At lunch time we ate our lunch surrounded by Christmas songs and lots of lights! We enjoyed pulling our crackers with our friends and teachers and wearing our party hats. It was great fun!

This week in French, we have continued to learn about French verbs. After learning the rules for conjugating regular verbs earlier this half term, we have now begun to learn about irregular verbs. First, we found various French verbs in the dictiornary and translated them into English. Then we learned how to conjugate the irregular verbs avoir (to have), aller (to go) and être (to be).
It All Got A Little Bit Messy!

The children love sensory experiences in nursery and they provide so many learning opportunites. They are great for physical development as they require the use of both fine and gross motor skills. The are also a great way for children to build relationships with each other as they share and take turns and talk about what they experiencing. As well as all of this, they also support the children's communitcation and language development as the describe, question and explain what they are experiencing. Oh, and of course they have a lot of fun!

Today in Year 4 we enjoyed our first forest school session. We spent our first session creating shelters, and nicely rounded the day off by toasting some marshmallows. It was a little bit chilly but thankfully the weather held out and our Year 4's had a great time!

Our Eco Warriors from Reception, Year1 and Year 2 have been busy planting spring bulbs in the pond area of our school grounds as part of the BBC Plant Britain project.
Countryfile Plant Britain wants to get everyone planting in a big, ambitious two-year project where we can all do our bit in the battle against climate change and to help wildlife and our own well being.
Anyone can take part either at home with your friends and family or within the community too.
Get planting and help prevent climate change!

Today, Year 2 had a visit from some Firefighters. Figherfighter Luke, Firefighter Nathan and Firefighter Josie taught us all about their role as a Firefighter and made us think about all the different jobs they do from putting out fires to rescuing animals that might have got stuck; they also showed us the different equipment they would use in all these different situations. Then, they taught us some vital skills to ensure we keep ourselves safe in our home and community, the importance of a smoke alarm and we learnt how to help ourselves if an item of our clothing caught on fire- Stop, Drop and Roll. Lastly, they got us to practise our new knowledge of what to do if there is a fire in our house by completing some role play. Miss Duckworth and Miss Hooson were proud of how well the children listened and engaged with the Firefighters and how much they learnt.
Working out for Children in Need

Today we celebrated Children in Need by dressing up in spots and stripes. To wake us up for the day and give us energy, we took part in a Joe Wicks workout where we had to answer questions. Each question had 2 options and each option had an exercise movement!! It was a fun way to start the day.

This week was Anti-Bullying Week. On Monday, we began the week with an assembly to introduce our focus 'One Kind Word' and we all wore a colourful accessory. We also wrote notes to someone who has helped us to say thank you. When we had all finished, we went to the Kindness Post Box and posted them to be delivered to their recipients. Later in the week, we used the Now Press Play equipment to act out a story about kindness. All the children knew when Safia (one of the main characters) wasn't displaying kindness and we all chose the kind thing to do.

This week Reception were visiting by Police Community Support Officers Ally and Clare. They came in to talk to use about their role in the community and how they help to keep us safe. We talked about how we they were a special uniform so we can recognise them when they are out in the community. They explained how they help lots of different people in our local area including elderly people and young teenagers. We also talked about Stranger Danger and what do do if we lost our parents or carers whilst we are out. We learnt the phrase Run,Yell, Tell and even practiced shouting for help with our loudest voices. We talked about the importance of rules and why we need to follow them both in school and in our community.

Nursery took part in the whole school kindness day. We talked about what it means to be kind and the different ways we can show kindness to others. We then made a special kindness hand and said what we would do to be kind. Two special kindenss superheroes also visited us and watched over us all day to look out for acts of kindenss. They spotted sharing, helping others with the buttons on their cardigan and helping people to pick up objects they had dropped - what a kind bunch we are!

To celebrate Antibullying Day we coloured the world in kindness. We discussed the importance of being kind and how one kind word can make such a difference. In Year 3 we made kindness pebbles and left them around the school for others to find. We also learnt about Florence Nightingale and how her kindness changed the world that we live in.

As part of our Anti-Bullying week learning we have been exploring the theme of one kind word. This afternoon we talked about what kindness means to us and how we can show this in our daily life. We then used different coloured paper to create bright and vibrant paper chains displaying messages of kindness, kind words and acts of kindness pictures.

This week is Anti-bullying Week 2021
In year 5 we have written about the Christmas Truce 1914, which happened on Christmas Eve, 1914. The Children wrote a postcard home explaining what had happened and how it made them feel. Following this, we made 'kindness hugs' - a nice way to show someone that you care.

This week Reception have been making poppies for our Remembrance Garden, creating our own to wear and painting poppies as part of a whole school art week.

Today in RE we began by discussing the question ‘Why is family important?’ We talked about what we get from our families, thinking about both emotional and physical needs. We then talked about why babies are so special and listened to the story ‘Bella’s New Baby.’ We explored the fact that babies and both physically and emotionally vulnerable. We recapped on the emotions and roles that family member play/have whilst emphasising that babies are special because they bring love to a family. Finally we discussed what we think would be the greatest gift in the world and discussed the difference of financial value and gifts such as love, family and caring.

On Thursday 11th of November, we celebrated Remembrance Day. We talked about soldiers and how they are very important and keep us safe. Nursery took part in the whole school Remebrance Day and planted poppies in the Remembrance Garden and joined the rest of the school for the Remembrance Service. Then we made some beautiful poppies to help us remember the soldiers.

In nursery, we have been talking about how we can keep our bodies healthy. We started the week by talking about how important it is to keep our teeth healthy. We talked about going to the dentist and brushed some giant teeth! Then we learnt about how important it is to eat our fruit and vegetables as they help us to grow big and strong and also help our bodies to fight off any germs by giving us vitamins! Then we made our own delicious fruit salad.

The children in Reception have been busy learning about Diwali the festival of light. As part of our learning the children and teachers in Reception held a Diwali Celebration Day where the children were invited to dress in bright colours. Throughout the day we learnt about different Sikh and Hindu Diwali trandtions including making our own Rangoli Patterns to welcome people, making and decorating salt dough diva lamps to put in our houses, learning a Sikh dancel and preparing a sikh desert 'a ladoo'. We also looked at some tradition clothing and had the opportunity to ty them on. We designed and made Diwali card which we sent to our friends and family. At the end of the day we had a Diwali celebration in the dance studio where we preformed our dance to Miss Ashton and Miss Moyes. To close the day we sat in a circle and lit our diva lamps together. We reflectied on our learning and thought carefully about the importance of being kind to others ensuring good overcomes evil. What a fabulous day of learning. Have a look at some of our pictures!

We have been focusing on Black History Month and we looked at the life and accomplishments of Mary Seacole. We were amaxed by the resilience and determination that she showed despite facing discrimination. We moved on to writing a diary from Mary Seacole's point of view. We looked at the features of diaries and unpicked them ready to write our own!

October was Black History month, and in Year 5 we enjoyed finding out about promenent Black muscians from the past. This linked with our learning in Music, where we were listening to, and making observations about Motown music from the 1960s and 1970s. In our writing journey, we researched the singer and musician, Stevie Wonder, and wrote a historical narrative about his amazing life. As part of our guided reading sessions, we read about other famous Black people who have had an impact on the world; Sislin Fay Allen, Rosa Parks and Nelson Mandela.

In Reception, it's not only our teachers who help us- there are lots of other people at school who help us too.
Mrs Bunday, Deputy Head Teacher, Mrs Jones- Boast, School Business Manager and Mr Galloway and Mr Harding, the Premises Team all visited us and explained what their role was within school. At the end of the week, we went to the dance studio and took part in the activity 'Now Press Play' all about 'People Who Help Us'. Here, we listened to a story, using head phones, followed the instructions to act out a narrative- such good fun!

While black history is celebrated year round, Black History Month is marked annually. It recognises and values the inspirational individuals and events that have shaped the black generation. During Black History Month, we remember and celebrate the important people from the past and also those who contribute to and help our society today.
Alongside shared class books highlighting the work and impact of Black people, the month of October began with an assembly to introduce the themes of Black History Month and its importance for us all. Classes have woven some significant figures from Black History into a range of lessons including Reading into Writing:
EYFS and Year 1 – People around the world
Year 2 – Rosa Parks
Year 3 – Mary Seacole
Year 4 – Sporting achievements
Year 5 – Influential musicians
The children's work will be displayed on specially designed black and gold post boxes that will feature, as in previous years, in prominent positions throughout school as we share our learning with other classes and visitors to Boundary.

Today Year 1 experienced the musical delights of Travelling By Tuba! During the morning show we watched Stewart and Chris perform different musical intruments and pieces from around the world. It was a very entertaining tour around the world, which we all very much enjoyed! We then took part in a workshop where we had the oppourtunity to play some of the musical instruments. Our workshop involved creating a piece of music to a Brazillian Samba! Our day ended in a musical performance where we shared our learning with our audience!
