Year 1 Trust & Trusted Adults

Date: 29th Jun 2022 @ 6:55pm

Our key question for RE is 'Why might some people put their trust in God?' This half term we are learning about Judaism. Today we looked at what the word trust means and who we trust. We learnt that Jewish people believe they can have a personal relationship with God and that God continues to work in the world, affecting everything that people do. We then thought about who our trusted adults are and why we trust these people. As a class we came up with some great ideas!

'We trust people who don't lie and tell the truth even when it is not easy.' 'Trustworthy people are reliable and responsible.' 'They do what they say they are going to.'

Year 3- Differences

Date: 29th Jun 2022 @ 10:43am

Year 3 looked at differences today. We began by looking at how we are all unique and what makes us different. We moved onto identifying the differences between males and females. We learnt the body parts penis, testicles, vulva, vagine and uterus. We then went on to learn about unwanted touch and the rights we have for our body. We looked the the 'PANTS' poster and ensured that we understood what it meant.

P- Privates are private

A- Always remember your body belongs to you

N- No means no

T- Talk about secrets that upset you

S- Speak up, someone can help

We finally went on to look at families and how families can differ. We looked at a range of images that represented a wide range of families and we compared to our own, identifying similarities and differences.

Year 2 Hand Hygiene

Date: 25th Jun 2022 @ 8:11pm

This half term in Science, we are consolidating all our learning from Year 2. This week, we discussed how hygiene is important through our Animals including Humans unit. We conducted an experiment to test how effective different cleaning products that we can use on our hands are. We used pepper in a bowl and tested how far the pepper dispersed from our finger when we had washed our hands using: no soap, liquid soap, washing up liquid and hand sanitiser. We learnt the most effective product to use when washing hands is liquid soap and the least effective was no soap. We are enjoying revisiting our learning and deepening our understanding of each unit.

Year 5 Music

Date: 20th Jun 2022 @ 7:43am

In this unit, we ask ‘How Does Music Connect Us with the Environment?’ as an entry point for the broad Social Theme of ‘Music Is a Nature Lover and Guardian of the Earth’. We will look at how this links to other subjects and learning in school such as nature, environment, animals, Geography, Science, Art, Forest School, climate change etc. We began our first lesson by listening to the song ‘You and Me’ and decided that this was Pop music. We discussed similar songs and artists from this genre and why we like or disliked this piece.  We then began looking at the structure of the song ‘You and Me’ and began learning the chorus – we know this to be the ‘catchy’ part or the hook and we started to practice the first verse and chorus.

We can't wait to use the Recorders in the next few weeks and create our own piece of music!

They also talked about the different pedestrian crossings to use when walking to high school. This was a very important talk as soon the children will be more indepdent and allowed to walk on their own if they don't already so road safety is crucial.

We will be sending several of these letters to Downing Street. Let's see if we get a response!!

It was really exciting to see the Bactrian camels being fed - they don't share with each other very well! Just before lunch we were treated to a sea lion demonstration where their natural ability to balance, swim, jump and dive were all on show - Gloria even demonstrated the importance of recycling our plastic and not throwing it on the floor or in the oceans!

Reception Down by the pond...

Date: 12th May 2022 @ 12:09pm

This week, Reception decided to visit the pond again to observe how much the tadpoles had grown since we vsited last.

We were delighted to see that there were still some tadpoles sleeping on the stones or swimming through the water. There were no froglets or frogs to be seen - they must have been hiding or sleeping in the reeds.

Unfortunately, Reception were horrified to find loads of litter blowing around the pond and forest school area! They very quickly decided to collect it all up and put it in the bin- where it belongs! Our school grounds looks so much cleaner now.

"You shouldn't throw rubbish on the floor - it's dirty!"  Olivia

"Our school looks dirty with all this rubbish " Charlie

"Put rubbish in the bin or recycle it!" Isaac

Year 6 Science Day

Date: 21st Apr 2022 @ 12:04pm

Year 6 had a very busy and productive Science Day. We began by looking at scientific stereotypes and how these could be challenged. We took part in a Primary Futures event, where we were introduced to people who worked in scientific roles within our community. We had a chance to guess which job they did and ask questions about their roles. Although all of their careers were different, they all needed scientific knowledge to do their jobs.

We then moved on to learning about the heart and were given the opportunity to dissect a lamb’s heart. We identified the main parts of the heart, including the aortic valve, atriums and ventricles. We finished the day by focussing on plant-based food. We calculated how many food miles different types of burgers created and then designed our own environmentally friendly version.

Year 4 Our Diverse Community!

Date: 7th Apr 2022 @ 4:17pm

Last week we had an amazing PSHE lesson which got us up and out of our seats to enjoy the amazing weather we had! Both classes mixed outside and had to find the answers to questions such as 'Find someone who can speak another language', 'Find someone who's parents were born in another country' and 'Find someone who has a different hobby to you'. We learned a lot about each other and our Year 4's worked really well together!

They research roles in school, write a letter of application and interview for their chosen position just like they will do when they go on to make their own mark on the world in later life.
