This week Reception have enjoyed listening to the story No Bot - The Robot, an uplifting story of friendship.
Bernard is a robot with a very unusual problem- he has lost his bottom! Luckily, Bernard's friends offer to help him look for his bottom- but it is not an easy job!
The children then enjoyed making their own robots at the creative table, using loose parts and play dough, as well as continuing robot shape patterns.

Year 5 Exploring Strong sketches

We explored using heavier, darker pencils and charcoal to sketch onto recylced maps this week, to continue our journey. Our aim was to make our sketches stand out against the print of the maps. We sketched mountains and animals with focus and some people really used the features of the maps to enhance their sketches.
Nursery Become Archaeologists!

After reading "Harry and his Bucketful of Dinosaurs go to School" nursery immersed themselves in all things dinosaur! We looked for dinosaur bones and fossils and one day we even found some dinosaur eggs! We waited patiently for the babies to hatch and then had great fun making up stories about the dinosaurs together. The children also learnt about shapes by creating shape dinosaurs and worked together to paint some big dinosaurs!

As part of our topic 'Marvellous Me' Reception have been finding out all about each other identifying our similarities and differences. We read the book 'Marvellous Me' and talked about our likes, disklikes and the different things we are good at. We then used some mirrors to identify the different features on our faces .

The children the selected the correct coloured paints and painted their own self portrait with the support of an adult. They were give lots of opportunities in the classroom areas to create their own faces and portrails. Have a look at some of wonderful work.
Reception exploring the outdoor area

This week the children in Reception have had a great time in our outdoor area. The children have been practising putting on their waterproofs and wellie boots ready to explore our wonderful outdoor provision. They have been role playing in the mud kitchen, riding on the balance bikes, building in our construction shed, exploring the water and mark making using paint brushes. The children have worked together brillianlty ensuring take turns, share the resources and put them away properly. Have a look at what we have been up to!

This week we began learning about Christianity by exploring families and belonging. We explored the fact that all families are unique and discussed who is in our family. We thought about different relationships and about how they might be similar and different to others. We learnt that Christians believe that God is like a father who guides them and helps them. We then created our own family portrait, sharing our ideas with others to two key questions. What makes a good family? How do families look after each other and look after children?
Year 5 Art begins with Typography

We have started our learning in Art by creating our own different styles of Typography. We learnt that typography is any form of print style designed to create an idea or emotion. We learned about Louise Fili who is a famous graphic designer who created posters for the New York Subway using different type fonts. By cutting up paper and sketching, we started to create our own letters.
Nursery Get off To A Flying start!

We have been having a wonderful time in nursery getting to know all of our new starters. It looks like we are going to be in for a fabulous year with a super bunch of children! They have been working so hard to learn all of the routines and have really impressed us with how quickly the are learning everything. The children have demonstrated some great PSED skills by making friends and playing well together. They have also been showing their super drawing skills by making some wonderful self-portraits. What a great start!

We have been reading the story Billy's Bucket.
Billy wanted only one thing for his birthday- a bucket! But this was not just any bucket - it was a magical bucket! Inside it, Billy was able to see all kinds of different sea creatures. After lots of retelling of the story and writing about it we decided to design our own bucket using the resources from the creative area. The only rule was to create a repeating pattern!

What another amazing Boundary Heritage Day! This year our theme was ‘Significant people and events in Blackpool’. From a trip to Bloomfield Road to a visit from a Funny Girl's Drag Queen, the children have had a great day. Each year group was given a different key question to investigate and enquire about.
Nursery/Reception: How has the seaside changed? What was it like in the past compared to now?

Nursery What The Ladybird Heard At The Seaside

We have been reading the story "What The Ladybird Heard At The Seaside" By Julia Donaldson and have created lots of learning opportunites based on the story. We have been practsing our scissor skills by cutting the mermaids hair - it was very tough and sticky just like in the story! We have been counting spots on to ladybirds and subisiting how many spots we can see and learring all about the letter L by making ladybirds out of the letter. We have created some beautfiul transient art pictures of mermaids and made some spinning ladybirds to hang from the ceiling.

This week we have created our final pieces of artwork in the style of Steven Brown. We brought all of our prior learning around shape, colour, line and space together to create our own inspired piece of animal art. We enjoyed listening to Music as we painted and tried hard to create our own bright colours through mixing tints and shades.

This half term, our Art journey is painting. We have explored paintings by Wassily Kandinsky and Steven Brown and created inspiration pages in our sketchbooks. Today we experimented with different colours and tools to explore mark making and line. We worked indepdently to use lines of different length, shape and thickness to create our own line drawing.

This week, we have started to investigate the famous poem by Alfred Noyes, 'The Highwayman'.
We have looked at the structure, vocabulary and GPS features, including the rhyme structure and figurative language.
To help our pupils immerse themself into the poem and visualise it, we spent a lesson yesterday drawing famous scenes/phrases from the poem.

This week, Year Two began their new Computing multimedia unit which involves us using a variety of art styles to create digital art. We begun the unit by exploring pointilism, learning that this is creating a painting using lots of little dots that build up to create the overall picture. The children created their picture using Paintz and explored how to change brush size as well as learning to change the colour shades to create a piece they were proud of. The children loved the lesson and they all demonstrated patience and perseverance and created some lovely flower pictures using pointilism.

This week we have been reading the story "Billy's Bucket" By Kes Gray all about a little boy who wants a bucket for his birthday. It's no ordinary bucket though, Billy's bucket is special as he can see lots of sea creatures when he looks inside! The chidlren were brilliant at recalling parts of the story and by the end of the week they were telling the story without the book. The activities in continous provison were all based around the story and included matching numerals to the correct bucket, theading tentacles on to jelly fish, designing a bucket and creating some transient art to show what they would see in their bucket.

Reception have been a lovely story called 'The Bog Baby'. The story is about two little girls who go for a walk in bluebell wood. They discover a magical pond where they find a obsure little creature. Using their net they fished it out of the pond, it's was a bog baby. The bog baby was small and round with a spikey tail. His body was blue and he had big googley eyes. The children took the bog baby home and put him in a bucket. They fed him cake crumbs and took him for walks but the bog baby got sick. Eventually the children realised the bog baby was a wild thing who belonged in the pond so their returned him to his habitat.
Inspired by this lovely story the children used clay to make their own bog baby models. It was important that the children used the correct techniques of 'slip, score and blend' to ensure their models didn't fall apart. Once the clay had dried the children mixed different shades of blue using white and black paint and then painted their bog baby. The children made their bog baby a pond habitat at the creative table by using recycled boxes, and a range of different materials. Have a look at out amazing work!

We have been reading the story "The Bumblebear" By Nadia Shireen about a little bear who loves honey so much he decides to go to Bee School! We have looked at the repeated stripy pattern of a bumble bee, made playdough bees, counted bees and found out how bees make honey. We even made our own delicious honey and yoghurt dip. We've been very busy bees!
Nursery enjoy learning about Farms

We've had a brilliant week finding out about animals that live on a farm. We've learnt that milk comes from cows and made our own milkshake - it was delicious! We also set up a farm shop and the chidlren made the labels themselves! We had alots of farm based activites in continuous provision and even worked together to paint and collage some farm animals.
Year 6 sketching - shading and perspective

Year 6 continued their sketching unit in Art by practising shading techniques. The children learned about perspective and used their sketchbooks to practise drawing 3D shapes, before moving onto experimenting with different 3D shapes to sketch buildings and architectutal scenes.

This week we have read the fabulous story "Superworm" By Julia Donaldson. This story is great for developing an understanding of rhyme and the children were super at joining in with the rhymes. All our learning was based on the story and included comparing the size of worms, make worms of different lengths out of playdough and counting bugs and matching them to the correct numerals. The children got creative by making their own magic wands just like Wizard Lizards and made superworms living in a garden. They also practised writing their names by writing them inside a worm and explored capacity and what happens when they mixed different liquids to make magic potions.
Year 6 sketching - introduction to Stephen Wiltshire

Today we began our sketching unit by looking at the life and art of the artist Stephen Wiltshire. We looked at his website and appraised some of his pieces - we discussed how he used line and value to create his pieces. We were very impressed with his city landscapes, many of which were drawn from memory. We are looking forward to completing more work in his style and learning about other artists.
Reception The Very Hungry Caterpillar

This week, Reception have been reading the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. They have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly and have been observing the changes in our own class caterpillars. Using resources from our creative area, the children created their own caterpillars and then went outside hunting for them in our garden.
Year 2 Continuous line drawings

After exploring our two artists- Henri Matisse and Kittie Jones this week Year Two practiced their own drawing skills. We explored what continuous drawing meant and were shocked that we would have to focus on drawing a small object for 5 minutes continuously ensuring we added lots of detail to our drawing instead of focusing on just the outline. We practiced drawing lots of natural objects such as leaves, flowers as well as our germinating beans. Miss Duckworth and Miss Hooson were proud of the concentration and care the children took of their drawings and the children were incredibly proud of their drawings. We look forward to designing and creating our final pieces inspired by either of our artists!

Some days are a real eclectic mix of learning in nursery! Using open ended resources means the learning can take any direction and results in lots of excitment and engagement! Just today we have explored different ways of painting, the children used tape measures to measure each other and buildings, they made potions and soup using petals and made a car wash for some muddy trucks! Another busy day!
