We had a great morning in the sun for our Sports Day. The children showed good perseverance and we even saw some people supporting each other when they were unsure what to do. Well done everyone!

This year's theme for Music Day was connection! We had a fantastic day learning about syncopated rhythms. We clapped our own rhythms to a nursery rhyme and then created syncopated rhythms with body percussion and a range of different instruments.

What a great morning! We had Mr Cooper (teacher) and Miss Ogden (TA) in Maple teaching us about capital letter and full stops, then about lines of symmetry. After break, they even helped to teach use about reading skills. Thank you Year 5! You did a great job.

What a great opportunity we've had today! Team Rubicon came in and showed us how to skateboard. We learned the basics about keeping our feet wide apart and being confident, then we were shown some tricks. The adults were really proud of us all giving it a go and Oliver said he was really impressed with us.

This Science this half term, Year 4 are recapping some of the units that have covered this year. This week, we completed a flashback about the states of matter and their properties. Then, we explained the process of freezing and melting by making ice cream!

Coats and rain in June! But it didn't stop our Forest School fun this week. We have four sessions this half term. Today we did some activities to show off our listening skills before some free time fruit picking.

This half term in computing, Year 4 have veen learning about what data is and why it is important to log it. This week, we looked at two graphs which measured temperature and light. We discussed what questions we could ask about this data and what each graph is telling us. Then, we interpreted these graphs and inputted the data that they showed on Chromebooks.
Year 4 - What is the link between distance and volume?

Today, we looked at the link between distance and volume. We discovered that the further away a sound is the more the soundwaves dissipate and therefore the volume is lower.

Over the past couple of weeks, Year 4 have been learning about what data logging is. We discussed that data is information that is collected to analyse something and that we use data loggers to do this. Then, we walked around the school and recorded the temperature of the school and then analysed the results. We have also discussed some of the challenges we may have when collecting data in a range of environments.

Over the past couple of weeks, Year 4 have listened, appraised and practised to sing 'Oh Happy Day.' Firstly, we listened to the song and then compared it to the version that was sung in the film 'Sister Act.' Then, we split into two groups and learnt to sing the song.
Year 4 - Relationship between energy and volume

Today we continued our 'En Classe' unit in French. But today we focused on our speaking skills and how to say when we DO NOT have certain items.

What a great morning we have had with Krishna our Hindu visitor. Firstly, we had a whole school assembly where we recapped the story of Diwali and were introduced to the characters. Then, we introduced to the Hindu shrine and the murtis on the shrine. After break, we had a go at dressing up and had such good fun learning why Hindus wearing the items they do.
Year 4 - What is it like in a rainforest city?

What an interesting lesson learning about the city of Manaus, which is situated in the heart of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. We couldn't believe that 2 million people live there! We looked at human and physical features of the city and compared them with life here in Blackpool.

This week, Year 4 have listened and responded to 'O Euchari.' We discussed the Medieval style of music and where it sat on the music timeline. Then, we learnt all about the life of Hildegard of Bingen, the composer of 'O Euchari,' and why her music was so different to others of that era. We walked around the classroom to find interesting facts about her life and created a class mindmap using post it notes.

Today we completed the 'Improve a WABOLL' part of our journey. We worked collaboratively to find errors and improve muddled up poems about rivers.

Year 4 have had a great time during no pen morning. In Reading into Writing, we started our next journey which to write a poem based on rivers. We looked at a range of different poems and discussed common features such as alliteration, personification and rhyming.
In Maths, we learnt how to represent hundredths as fractions. Firstly, we use base ten blocks to understand how to represent hundredths as fractions. Then, we used our digital literacy skills to use rekenrek on our chromebooks. We discussed how many beads were on each side of the rekenrek and talked about how to represent each of the sides as a fraction.

Every week, during Always Time, we have a different theme. This week, we did Origami and we loved it! We listened to calming music and coloured our creations in afterwards too.
Year 4- Asking Yes/No Questions

This half term, Year 4 have started their new computing topic which is themed around collecting and presenting data. For our first lesson, we discussed the different between an open-ended question and a yes/no question. We then played a game where our partner picked an everyday classroom object and we had to guess what the object was using yes/no questions. Finally, we grouped objects based on their attributes such as their colour, size and material.

Today we started our South America unit in Geography and answer the key question Where is The Amazon? We used atlas to locate the countries of South America then located The Amazon rainforest and The Amazon River and the countries they are in.

Today, we went on a ‘Sound Walk’ around school. Before we went, we discussed what areas of school might be loud and which might be quiet. We spoke about how there might not be areas around school which are silent because of outside factors such as the building works and vehicles.
When we returned from our walk, we spoke about HOW we hear sounds. Our teachers banged on drums with rice and we noticed that they moved. The banging of the drum caused vibrations!

Today, Year 4 learnt about stages of embalming. We discussed how Egyptians tried to preserve the bodies to keep them as life-like as possible. We learnt that the organs of the person were removed before placing them in capopic jars. They then covered the bodies in a special type of salt and wrapped them in linen. Once we had discussed the process of embalming, we tried to remember the order of the key stages in our table groups. After this, we asked a set of instructions for an embalmer to use which outlined the stages that they must follow to carry out embalming process.

The last couple of weeks we have been making our clay sculptures. We have made tinned food or jars of food. The children showed lots of perseverance sculpting their tins/jars and then again when painting them.
