Year 3- Our Final Forest School Fun!
Date: 19th Jan 2023 @ 3:01pm
For our final forest school session, we had lots of fun outside in the mud. We learnt how to tie knots in order to build dens. We then made a fire and toasted marshmallows. They were yummy!
We also used our fire to warm up water and make hot vimto to warm us up. We can't wait for our next forest school fun in Summer!
Year 3- Stone Age to Iron Age Museum
Date: 19th Jan 2023 @ 2:52pm
In History, we were posed with the question 'What can we learn about life in the Stone Age?'. We answered this question by firstly studying Skara Brae. We looked at what has been discovered and we infered what that could tell us about life all those years ago.
We then moved on into our very own 'Boundary Stone Age to Iron Age Museum' where we were able to explore a varety of artefacts from the Stone Age. Once again, we infered what this could tell us so that we could build up a picture of life in the Stone Age.
Date: 19th Jan 2023 @ 2:42pm
Year 3 enjoyed a No Pen Morning and used their Reading into Writing lessons to put down their pens and use their voices! In Reading into Writing, we focused on stereotypes (in theme with our playscripts) and we debated the issues that were put forward. This has helped us in creating conversations for our play scripts. We thought about how we can develop conversations but asking questions and developed our listenign skills.
In Maths, we worked in pairs to practically do flexible partitioning. We used our grouping skills to divide numbers. We had to discuss how we were solving the questons and worked on justifying our answers.
Date: 19th Jan 2023 @ 2:37pm
During our PSHE lesson we looked at the different types of media and how messages are spread to large amount of people. As part of our lesson, we looked at a variety of images that had been edited or used filters. We discussed whether we thought this was okay, the implications it could have and when the appropriate time to use these tools would be. We also looked at fake news and we discussed that not everything we read is always true.
Date: 12th Jan 2023 @ 3:30pm
In forest school this week the children learnt all about habitats and made their own dens for creatures. They also enjoyed building a fire and exploring the outdoors.
Date: 5th Jan 2023 @ 3:45pm
Before we started our new topic on the Stone age man, we discussed BC and AD for the timelines in history. We established that the Stone age was the only thing in our timeline that was BC and the rest of the pictures were all in the last 600 years. We put ourselves in the timeline too!
We went on the look at picture sources to answer the question "Was Stone Age Man just a simple Hunter Gatherer?"
Date: 5th Jan 2023 @ 3:37pm
Today was our first Forest School Session! Although it was very rainy and muddy, we had lots of fun thinking about the new Year. We played Robins and Frost Sprites, a game of hide and seek, to think about how the frost comes in winter and we made wands/staffs to warn off the cold of winter and keep the light shining in our hearts throughout this period of time. The children had great fun despite their muddy clothes!
Date: 14th Dec 2022 @ 1:19pm
Today we were inspired by the story The Little Snowflake and created our own snowflakes. We used water colours, oil pastels and glitter to bring them to life.
Date: 12th Dec 2022 @ 9:46am
In preparation for our christmas fair on Wednesday the children in Year Three have been busy learning all about enterprise. We decided to make reindeer hot chocolates that we are going to sell. We worked as part of a team to make them, filling the bags, adding marshmallows and decorating the outside to make the best product to sell.

Year 3 Listening and performing in Music
Date: 30th Nov 2022 @ 4:24pm
In Year 3 we have been doing lots of listening and describing with our new Musical Vocabulary mats. We have discussed the key vocabulary and thought about how we can use it to describe the pieces of music that we have listened to. We have improved our use of sentence starters because we now have examples. We have started to think about our Christmas songs and have begun to learn about the musical score, treble clef and time signature. We started to play the glockenspeil to Jingle Bells!
Date: 29th Nov 2022 @ 1:22pm
In Science, Year 3 have been investigating what fossils are and how they were formed. We completed a carousel of activities to expand our knowledge. We used secondary sources to gather and present information, used magnifying glasses to examine fossils specimens and even made our own fossils!
Year 3- What makes a good role model?
Date: 29th Nov 2022 @ 1:16pm
In R.E we were exploring a wide variety of stories surrounding Prophet Muhammed. We explored which characteristics he demonstrated and how these made him role model. We created a freeze frame from the stories that pin- pointed the most important part of each. We had to explain why it was the most important section. Then we identified what characteristics, message and how he was portrayed as a role model. We then had to teach other groups what we had found.
Year 3- Dancing with charcoal!
Date: 29th Nov 2022 @ 1:05pm
In Art, Year Three have been exploring how to draw with charcoal. We were inspired this week by the artist Heather Hansen who mixes art with dance! We noticed that with gestural drawing we use long sweeping movements and the use of our whole body to create our masterpieces!
Date: 14th Nov 2022 @ 2:56pm
Today we celebrated Anti-bullying Day. As a school, we came in wearing odd socks to show that we are all individual yet all special in our own way. As part of our anti-bullying learning, Year 3 were lucky enough to have a session with Simon and Mark from Blackpool Football Club. We learnt how important it is to be an upstander and not a bystander. Together we can tackle bullying! We also learnt the importance of kindness and created our own kindness jars. We finished the session off by watching a powerful video of acts of kindness being passed on and we made a pledge to carry out our own act of kindness this week.
Year 3- Investiagting Igneous Rocks
Date: 14th Nov 2022 @ 2:24pm
In this lesson we worked scientifically to plan an investigation surrounding the crystal size in Igneous rocks. We identified that we were going to change the temperature, we had three containers that had ice, cotton wool and air in. We will observe over the next 24 hours and see if our predictions were correct.
Date: 10th Nov 2022 @ 9:19am
This week in French, we have recapped the vowels a, e, I, o, u and focussed on the new sounds ch, ou, on, oi. We have used the words to help us to remember the sounds. We also used our knowledge organisers to help us to recap the sounds. As well as this we practised the French alphabet and recapped colours by singing songs and playing games.
Date: 10th Nov 2022 @ 9:16am
In Science this week, we demonstrated how metamorphic rocks are made by using chocolate! We started off with white and milk chocolate. We then cut it into small pieces to demonstrate erosion. This made sediments which we then applied pressure to and squashed together to make a sedimentary rock. Once we had formed this rock, we applied heat to the rock and then allowed it to cool. This made a metamorphic rock. At the end of the lesson, we cut our rocks open and discovered the different colours and layers in our rocks.
Date: 4th Nov 2022 @ 4:19pm
As we get closer to Remembrance Day Year Three have been using charcoal to draw poppies. We experimented with water colours, oil pastels and felt tips to create the red poppies.
