Year 1 Together Time

Date: 21st Nov 2023 @ 5:51pm

Today we began to formalise the idea of addition as bringing two or more parts together to create a whole. We completed three different tasks that encouraged us to explore and focus on bringing two parts together. We used the correct mathematical language to explain, e.g. ‘3 cubes plus 5 cubes is equal to 8 cubes.’ Some of our grow ups joined us for ‘together time’ and we showed them how we use tens frames, counters, part whole models and cubes to support our learning.

Year 4- Keeping Teeth Healthy

Date: 10th Nov 2023 @ 4:42pm

This half-term, Year 4 our topic in science is Animals including Humans. Over the past couple of weeks, we have been looking at the functions of each one of our teeth. After this, we modelled our own teeth using playdough. We have also looked at why it is important that we brush our teeth twice a day. To test why we need to do this, we put 6 eggs into a range of different liquids and observed what happened to their shells. We found that the driinks with the most sugar caused the egg shells to decay and discolour. This showed us that too many sugary drinks can damage our teeth.

Remembrance Day

Date: 10th Nov 2023 @ 10:22am

On Friday 10th November, Boundary Primary took part in a whole school act of Remembrance.

It began with all the children, from Nursery to Year 6, planting the poppies they had made in our Remembrance Garden.

Then, at 11am, the school came together for an outdoor assembly. We all observed a two minutes silence and listened to important historical facts about the significance of the poppies we were wearing.

During the week, each class took part in creating poppy art and each year group was also given a silhouette of a soldier which they were asked to decorate around the theme of Remembrance. This activity focussed all our minds on who we were remembering and why it is important to remember them. The completed soldiers were then displayed around the school hall and will remain there – helping us to think about those who gave their lives during war and those who continue to serve to keep us and our country safe.

Finally, on Friiday, they joined the whole school by planting a hand made poppy in the Boundary Remembrance Garden, followed by an outdoor whole school Remembrance Service.

The Mini Elmers will complement and add value to the main art trail, showcasing the creativity of schools and organisations in our community.
