This week in French club we learned all about French cheeses. There are over 350 different types of cheese that originate from France and we tasted some of them this afternoon. All of the children enjoyed brie but the French goats cheese was not a favourite!.

At the start of today's lesson we used coloured beanbags to practise our French colours. This half term we have been looking at 'Goldilocks and The Three Bears' in French. Today, we used French dictionaries to translate parts of the story.

Year 6 have done some brilliant work in their French lessons this half term. Our unit was called ' Le Week-end' and focused on activities that the children might do at the weekend. We learned the correct vocabulary for each activity, language to give opinions and how to tell the time to the nearest five minutes. As always, our lessons covered listening, speaking, reading and writing activities and the children produced great work in each.

This half term in French, we have been learning about 'les vetements' or 'the clothes'. In this lesson, pupils developed their recall of the vocabulary we have learned in previous lessons to match images of clothing items to the French nouns. They had to work together and discuss the names of the items and then use their memory (or books) to match the image to the correct vocabulary.

We had a great morning learning without pens or writing! We talked about how the music made us feel for the song 'Freedom is Coming', using the vocabulary for the listening mats. We played the glockenspiels and percussion instruments, and performed the accompaniment to the song.
In French we sang and recapped the months of the Year. We cut/stuck the months of the year in order. We spoke in french and started to put together the phrase, 'Mon Anniversaire est...' using the days and months.

Today we began our French unit - les Vikings. This involved listening to a song and translating the lyrics from French to English. We then worked through slides that introduced the Vikings and key information in French, which we translated again into English. We are now able to translate much larger sections of French because of the work we did during Autumn term.

Today in French we developed our dictionary skills by looking up the items of clothing that Father Christmas wears. We worked in pairs to find the vocabulary and labelled Pere Noel!
Year 5 French learning As tu un animal?

This half term we have been learning in French how to talk about animals. We have improved our pronunciation of the animals, asked questions, introduced the characters and said if our animals have a name. We have also learned the negative 'Je ne pas' and started to use the connective but 'mais' to explain different examples. We did some excellent listening tasks too!

This week in French, we have recapped the vowels a, e, I, o, u and focussed on the new sounds ch, ou, on, oi. We have used the words to help us to remember the sounds. We also used our knowledge organisers to help us to recap the sounds. As well as this we practised the French alphabet and recapped colours by singing songs and playing games.
Year 6 Adjectival Agreement in French

In the final session of our grammar unit we focused on adjectival agreement. In French, adjectives are spelt differently depending on whether the noun is masculine, feminine or plural. We finished the lesson by using our dictionary skills to find the gender of nouns before describing them using their colour.
Year 6 - Partitive Articles in French

In this week’s French lesson, Year 6 have continued their French grammar unit. We started the lesson by recapping on French vowel sounds and numbers to 50 before reminding ourselves of the definite and indefinite articles we learned about in the last couple of lessons. We then went on to learn about partitive articles – the French word for ‘some’. Did you know there are four different words for 'some' in French? A different word is used for nouns that are masculine, feminine, plural and those that begin with a vowel or the letter h. We continued to work with French dictionaries to find the gender of nouns.

Monday 26th September was European Day of Languages. Miss Ashton started the day with an assembly, which focused on the characteristic of perseverance. This links to learning a new language, as you need to persevere when learning a new skill. She talked about the benefits of learning a new language including communicating and developing a better understanding of different cultures. In class the children have been learning some simple phrases in European languages such as Polish, Spanish, Romanian and German.

The 26th September is European Languages Day! We celebrated by discussing why we have different languages and how many there are across Europe. We had a go at saying Hello and Goodbye in numerous languages and then we focused on Spanish phrases. The children were brilliant!
Year 4 The start of our French journey

We recapped counting to 10 in French, then we looked at the French phonics. This term we are focusing on French phonics! After looking at the pronunciation of the alphabet today - we focused on French vowels.
Year 6 - Indefinite Articles in French

Year 6 began their French lessons this year by focussing on grammar. We started by looking at the indefinite articles of un and une. We recapped on the fact that every noun has a gender and that un is used for masculine nouns and une is used for feminine nouns. We also used bilingual dictionaries to find nouns and their gender.
Year 6 Learning about religious celebrations in French

In French this week we have continued with our unit - Moi dans la Monde (Me in the World). We learned about religeous celebrations from around the French speaking world and used known language, congnates and bilingual dictionaries to translate email converstaions between two friends.

In this week's after school French club, we recapped on colours and numbers to thirty. We sang a French number song and had fun dancing like the worm on the video! Finally, we completed a colouring activity where we had to match the French numbers to a colour before colouring in the elephant. A lovely after school session.
Year 4 Boucle d'Or Et Les Trois Ours

This half term in french we are focussing on a whole range of new vocabulary. We are using the the well known children's book, Goldilocks and the Three Bears to discuss and learn this new vocabulary. This week we listened to the story in French and then with our partners, tried to match the pictures to the words in French. We listened to the story again to check our answers and finished off with an interactive game on the whiteboard.
Year 6 - faisons la tarte tatin

Today we completed our cooking journey on making a tarte tatin. We began the day by researching a range of existing baked apple products and made a slides presentaiton with lots of informaiton about the products, including photos, recipes, history of the product and where they originate from. Then we tasted a few of these products so that we could evaluate them for their smell, taste, appearance and texture. Next we practiced the skills needed to make a tarte tatin - this involved using a peeler and sharp knife to peel, core and slice apples using a safe method. Finally, we ended the day by making a tarte tatin in groups. The trickiest part was making the caramel - we had to keep an eye on how much heat we were adding to the sugar because we didn't want it to burn and be ruined. Our finished products looked and smelled amazing. They tasted even better!!
Year 6 Writing about the weekend in French

Year 6 have worked really hard in their French lesson today. First we recapped on vocabulary from previous lessons including telling the time and activities that are done at the weekend. The children then learned some new opinion phrases, before translating an email into French and writing their own. Super work Year 6!

Year 6 continued their new unit of French - Le Week-end. We recapped on how to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes before learning phrases to describe activities that can be done at the weekend. Some children completed a challenge where they had to use their learning from the last two lessons to write sentences describing what activities they do at the weekend and the time that they do them.

This week in French Year 4 have been learning all about houses and the different types of rooms. We have also been discussing different types of environment that people live in. For example, the city, by the sea and in the countryside. We had a great paired discussion and activity this week!
Year 6 Describing Viking hair in French!

Year 6 had a fun afternoon continuing their 'Les Vikings' unit in French. This week the children learned how to describe hair using the irregular verb 'avoir'. After learning how to describe the length, colour and style of hair, they played games of Guess Who where they had to ask questions - in French - about a person's hair.

Today was 'No Pen Day' at Boundary which fitted perfectly into our French lesson this week! We are learning all about our families in French and it gave us a great opportunity for a discussion about all the different people in our families. We were able to ask each other about our different family members and answer back in French! Bon travail Year 4!
