Forest School: Blog items

Year 2- Forest School Fun

Date: 5th Oct 2023 @ 3:35pm

Today, despite the weather, we enjoyed our second forest school session. Michelle read us a book called 'cool by the pool' and we pretended to be the animals in the book before we split into two groups; one group went pond dipping to look for bugs, plants and animals that we might find in a pond habitat and others explored the forest school garden opting to play in the mud puddle, mud kitchen, creating art or playing 'what time is it Mr Owl?' before we swapped over. Just before we came inside, we warmed up by having a cup of warm vimto.

Year 2 - Forest School

Date: 28th Sep 2023 @ 3:46pm

We began our Forest School sessions today. To start we reminded ourselves of the Forest School rules that are in place to keep us all safe.  We then went on a scavenger hunt to find a range of items that we then used to create a piece of art.   Some of us chose to play in the mud kitchen and some of us worked together to build a shelter. Then it was onto the pond habitat to search for frogs.  We were very excited to see a few hopping about as they were tiny tadpoles last time we visited in Spring.

Year 5 - Forest School

Pupils had a great time and can't wait until next week!

Year 1 Forest School

Today our Forest School session was all about plants! We began by identifying plants around the area, looking closely at their leaves to help us. We then made our own transient flowers out of natural objects, planted seeds and small plants and used paint pens and charcoal to create drawings of flowers. By the end of our session we had found lots of different wild plants and garden plants, recapped on the parts of plants and the 5 things plants need to survive.

Year 3- Forest School Fun Part 2

Date: 18th May 2023 @ 11:48am

Week 2 of Froest School was a blast! We started by looking at the ponds and we noticed that they were drying up and that our tadpoles were in need of rescuing. Some of us dedicated our time to filling the pond back up and we loved to see the tadpoles swimming again. We also used tools to shave twigs and then used natural resources to dye them. Finally, we used shovels to get ready to plant our own courgettes.

Year 2's Final Forest School Fun!

Date: 4th May 2023 @ 5:20pm

Today was our final session of Forest School in Year 2 and what fun we had! We used lots of the resources we could find including leaves, flowers and string to create our own stick creations, some of us got creative enough and began to build a den. Other children helped chop up fruits so we could enjoy fruit kebabs by the fire and dip them in some melted chocolate or caramel. We loved our final session in Year 2 and cannot wait until it's our turn next year.

Year 2 Forest School Fun Part 2

Date: 4th May 2023 @ 7:58am

Last week in Forest School, we learnt all about the Elder tree. We begun the lesson by creating a shelter using a parachute to protect us from the wind and after we came out we went on a hunt to find the only Elder tree in our Forest School area. We then used parts of Elder to use a hack saw to make a small piece and pushed the middle out so we could thread some string through to create necklaces or bracelets. We had so much fun and enjoyed getting creative with the Elder. Those that decided they didn't want to make something had plenty of fun den building and planting some seeds.

Year 2's Summer Forest School Fun

Date: 20th Apr 2023 @ 2:57pm

Today, Year Two enjoyed the first of their final three forest school sessions whilst they are in Year 2. Today we began the session by checking on the progress of the tadpoles and thought about where in their life cycle they are at. Then, Jenna and Michelle had set up lots of different dandelion activities for us to do. We could choose from making dandelion patterns on a piece of fabric by bashing rocks onto the dandelions and leaves to leave marks on the fabric, we could make dandelion pom-poms using wool as well as washing dandelions ready for us to make dandelion tea. At the end of the session, we tried the dandelion tea we had made, some of us enjoyed it whilst others thought it tasted disgusting. We are looking forward to continuing our forest school fun next week.

Year 2's Final Forest School Fun

This week Forest School enjoyed their final forest school session with Jenna and Michelle. This week, we thought about ways to survive if we got stranded in the cold on a mountain and used the parachute as our shelter thinking about the warmth it provided. We also thought about the 3 things we need for a fire- air, fuel and heat and some of us used the tools to practise lighting a fire so we could toast marshmellows. We have had a wonderful three weeks in forest school and look forward to our final three sessions in the summer.
