Well That Was Fun!

Date: 11th Mar 2021 @ 4:43pm

What a fun week that was! The children have had such a brilliant time being back together again and have really enjoyed interacting with each other. They have been engaged in so many different types of play including collabrative play, imaginative play and they have even worked together to solve a problem or two! Have a look at the photos to see the wonderful learning we have been doing this week.

Making the Right Choices

Date: 10th Mar 2021 @ 4:24pm

This week in PSHE, we have been looking closely at making the right choices in class. We have identified appropriate behaviour during lesson time and break time and in some circumstances when it may be during both. We then learned about positive and negative consequences for our choices and how we can celebrate good choices during our Cedar Time.

Cedar children have been making great choices this week and had fun celebrating by the different choices of activity each day.

The Whole Gang Is Back Together!

Date: 8th Mar 2021 @ 4:46pm

What a wonderful first day back we have had in Nursery! All the children came back so well and have picked up exactly where they left off way back in December! They have remembered the rules and routines and were so excited to see each other! We are so happy to have everyone back and it was so great to see all your smiling faces.

Christmas party day

Date: 17th Dec 2020 @ 12:19pm

To continue to the Christmas celebrations, this afternoon we had our Christmas party. We had lots of fun playing party games, pass the parcel, dancing competitions and following Just Dance on Youtube. We then ended the day with a Logo quiz!!

The Christmas Story

Date: 17th Dec 2020 @ 4:05pm

Today, we retold the Christmas Story and created some amazing Nativity Art. This was us during the process of our artwork, where we used sketching skills and practised on paper before doing it on a canvas. Look at our next post to see our finished versions!

Christmas Carol Service

Date: 17th Dec 2020 @ 8:16am

This week we had our Christmas Carol Service where we had to do this virtually. It was extremely different to how we usually do it but it was still amazing. A few of us from Year 6 and our teachers; Mrs. Hamilton and Mrs. Rose read parts and we listened to the Christmas Hymns. We also had Matt from The Church Army who spoke to us about the importance of Christmas and what Christians believe in.

We hope you all have a happy and safe Christmas!

Rainbow Laces!

Date: 11th Dec 2020 @ 4:44pm

On Rainbow Laces day, we learnt about stereotyping in sport. We discussed who imagined when we said the sports: gymnastics, ballet, football and swimming. We looked at famous males and females in these sports and the amazing accomplishments that they have achieved. By the end of the session, we had a good understanding that it doesn't matter what gender we are, we should play sports that interest us most.
We learnt that we should not stereotype people or judge them based on their looks or genders. Be who you want to be and do the things that make you smile!

Rainbow Laces Day - Celebrating Diversity

Date: 10th Dec 2020 @ 8:34pm

This week we have been taking part in 'Rainbow Laces Day' which is a chance to celebrate diversity and learn about the importance of respecting other people's differences. We learned about a variety of sports people who are all LGBT, including Tom Daley and Colin Jackson. We discussed that all people are worthy of respect and it is wrong to disrespect people because they are LGBT.

Christmas 2020 at Boundary

Date: 18th Dec 2020 @ 3:00pm

Although it has looked very different from previous years, we have still celebrated the festive season at Boundary, albeit it in our bubbles and via whole school virtual assemblies.

Our carol service was a beautiful event, witnessed, shared and enjoyed (virtually!) by the whole school – a testament to the resilience, patience and determination of both our children and our staff.

During the week, bubbles have enjoyed their Christmas dinner. The hall was set out beautifully with crackers to pull, hats to wear and the odd poor joke to tell for each year group bubble to enjoy their Christmas dinner on their special day! A huge ‘Thank You’ goes to all the staff for making it run smoothly, especially Debbie and all the catering and welfare staff for all their hard work in making our delicious dinner.

Each bubble also enjoyed their party day this week, with children wearing their Christmas jumpers and their best party clothes! Each class spent the last afternoon of this term watching a special virtual pantomime ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and eating popcorn.

Although 2020 has not been the year we would have hoped for, our children, staff and parents and carers have once again united to create a supportive, nurturing environment for the children of Boundary, ensuring that each child continues to receive the best education and start in life despite the events of this year.

We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your ongoing support during these strange and difficult times and to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful, safe and happy New Year and we look forward to welcoming you all back in January.

Religious Education - a summary of our learning so far....

Date: 11th Dec 2020 @ 1:00pm

At Boundary, our curious and tolerant children have had a busy few weeks learning lots about different religions and we can’t wait to share what we have done…

Reception have been busy learning about the Christmas story and filming our nativity in their outdoor area. They loved dressing up and re-enacting the nativity play.

This half term in Year 1 for RE, the children have been learning all about Jesus and the Christmas Story.  They have learnt about the roles of a family and why babies are special. They have read the Christmas Story and then ordered the events.  This week, they worked together in groups, to sort out Christmas cards into ones with a religious meaning and ones without.

Year 2 having been exploring the question...

Why do Christians say that Jesus is the 'Light of the World'?

They children have learnt about how lights are used by Christians in celebration and to mark special events, what advent means and how they can be a light to other people!

Year 3 have been learning about Islam and who Muslims follow. They have learnt about the characteristics that the prophet Mohammed showed and how Muslims can be charitable. The children have reflected on this and how they can apply it to the role models in our lives.

In Year 4, they have been learning about Christianity and how Christians show love to everyone. The children have done this by looking at parables such as The Good Samaritan and The Unforgiving Servant. These parables have told them that it is important to 'Love thy neighbour' and treat everyone around them with care and respect.

This term in Year 5 they have been learning about Islam. They looked at Ramadan, The 5 Pillars of Islam, The Holy Qur'an and Hajj.

The Holy book of Islam is the Qur'an, Muslims clean themselves in water that has been blessed, before they hold it. - Lacey-Morgan

The pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj) is one of the five pillars of Islam and Muslims must do it at least once in their life if they are physically capable of it. Ihram is the name given to the special spiritual state in which pilgrims wear two white sheets of seamless cloth during their pilgrimage. - Myles

Year 6 children have been learning about the Hindu belief in reincarnation, karma and the 4 Ashramas (stages of life). The children have reflected on the milestones they have achieved in their lives already and possible future ones.

Rainbow Laces

Date: 10th Dec 2020 @ 10:30am

Yesterday, we took part in some Rainbow Laces activities. We learned all about the LGBT+ community. We looked at four sportsmen and women and we had to draw a picture what we thought these sportsmen and women look like. This introduced stereotypes. We looked at the meaning of the colours of the Rainbow Laces flag; red=life, blue=harmony, purple=spirit, yellow=sun light, green= nature, orange=heeling. Everyone can join in with different sports and anything in life and we shouldn't treat people differently, whether they look different to you or have different opinions to you. The children were very sensible and we had some great discussions.

Team Work Makes The Dream Work

Date: 7th Dec 2020 @ 6:57pm

What a challenging lesson today's OAA was! The pictures say it all!!!

Our first activity was to split into two groups and run through the hoola hoop obstacle course at the same time as the other team. Once we were face to face with our opponent, we had to play 'rock, papers, scissors' and the winner could carry on their journey as the other person had to go to the back of their line. As soon as one person made it to the other side, they won a point for their team.

Our next task consisted of us getting into groups of 4/5 where we had to balance the hoola hoop on the back of our hands (on our fingers). We then had to follow particular commands whilst the hoola hoop balanced such as: kneel down, raise your arms up, put one arm behind your back, lift one leg up etc... This tested our patience with our team and relied on good communication skills.

Our final task was to get into groups of 8 where we were given a number 1-8. There were 9 cones and we had to get in numerical order but only by moving one space (and person) at a time, and using the blank space. to achieve this This is a similar concept to the game slider puzzle.

We can't wait to see what next week's lesson has in store for us!

Online Safety Talk

Date: 2nd Dec 2020 @ 10:58am

Today, Year 6 took part in a 90 minute online safety talk with Bernadette from WIRED. The session talked about how we can stay safe online and the dangers of being on social media sites. She went through ways in which APPs like Tik Tok can be dangerous/inappropriate for children and what children should be looking at if they do go on these sites.

We are also having another talk next week to go further into online safety.

Hindu Zoom!

Date: 1st Dec 2020 @ 8:00am

Today, we welcomed Hindu visitors (via Zoom!) to Year 6.

They started their talk about being a Hindu in general; they explained about the different types of Hindus, prayer, chants and the special clothes they sometimes wear.

They explained the 4 Ashramas and the stage they are currently in.  The main focus was their belief in reincarnation and karma and how this has an impact on the choices and actions they makes in life.

Road Safety!

Date: 3rd Dec 2020 @ 11:20am

This week in Reception the children have been learning about how to keep safe whilst crossing the road.  We watched a shorted video about 'Monster Moe' and discussed what he needs to do to keep safe.

"When you cross the road you Stop, Look and Listen" Ella-Rose

"don't run across because you might fall over" Leyton.

"Hold your mummy's hand to keep you safe" Emily

"Cross at a zebra crossing" Lauren.

"Find the lolly pop lady and she will stop the cars for you" Lyra-Rose.

The children then enjoyed making their own road signs and role playing in the garden.

Anti Bullying Day 2020!

Date: 18th Nov 2020 @ 4:42pm

This week we have been doing lots of activities around unit-bullying day. We thought about how we can be kind and support each other, how we can make sure everyone has a friend and who and where we can go if we feel upset or need to share something with someone. We also all wore odd socks to celebrate our differences and anti-bullying day. it is our differences that we need to celebrate and these differences which make us special. Take a look at some of odd sock picture below.

The Week We Wore Odd Socks and Went To Space!

Date: 20th Nov 2020 @ 4:45pm

It has been a jam packed week in Nursery! We started off the week wearing odd socks to celebrate Anti - Bullying week. We read the story "It's Ok To Be Different" By Todd Carr and talked about how being different makes us special. Then we read the story "The Tiger Who Came To Tea" By Judith Kerr and practised our counting by counting out stripes to put on tigers. On Wednesday the children chose to build a rocket out of the chairs and fly to space! They had a bit of engine trouble and got the tools out to fix it and then off they flew! The children had their snack on the moon and then built some rockets out of junk modelling! To finish off the space theme, we made some intergalactic space slime! Phew! We all need a rest now!

Everyone is different but everyone is special!

Date: 17th Nov 2020 @ 9:02pm

The children in Reception have enjoyed celebrating Anti-bullying Week by coming into school wearing wonderfully mismatched socks.  We took part in a whole school assemble via Google Meet learning about what bullying is and what to do if we are affected by it.  In class we looked at our similarities and differences and learnt that everyone is different and it is our differences that make us unique.  We talked about how we should treat everyone fairly regardless of our differences.  The children also enjoyed designing their own odd socks.

"I have glasses but Alfie doesn't.  We are different but he's my friend" Leyton

"You should always be nice to people and have kind words" Lyra-Rose

"If someone is being mean you tell a grown up and they can help you" Elliott

Remembering...

Date: 11th Nov 2020 @ 9:18pm

The children in Reception have been learning about the importance of wearing poppies and remembering those who gave their lives to secure our future.

"We wear poppies because the soldiers died" Leyton.

Anti Bullying Week

Date: 16th Nov 2020 @ 7:48pm

We began anti bullying week by talking about different types of bullying, and how these types of bullying may occur. We then took part in the whole school assembly, which explored this years anti bullying week theme, 'United Against Bullying.'

This afternoon we then designed our own class jigsaw pieces to show how we are going to be 'United Against Bullying.' We thought about what changes we could make to our class and our school to make it a bullying free zone. We then also designed our own odd socks, and took part in an experiment which helped us explore what bullying can do to people on the inside, even though the effects might not be shown on the outside.

Remembrance Day

Date: 13th Nov 2020 @ 7:41pm

This week we have been thinking about all the brave soldiers and saying thank you.

On Wednesday, we joined the rest of the school to take part in our Remembrance Service. We each planted a poppy in our school Remembrance Garden. Each poppy has the name of a World War One soldier. We thought of these soldiers during our whole school assembly and two minute silence.

We have also painted Poppies, learning about the significance of Poppies for Remembrance Day and why we wear them.

Remember the Fallen

Date: 13th Nov 2020 @ 3:56pm

On Wednesday, Year Two joined the rest of the school to take part in a Remembrance Service.  We made poppies and planted them in our school Remembrance Garden.  Each poppy had the name of a World War One soldier lost in battle.  We thought of these soldiers as we participated in a two minute silence.  Earlier in the week, we also painted pictures of poppies and decorated a soldier silhouette to be displayed in our school hall.  We have also had some brilliant examples of our Remembrance BLT.

Year 5 Remembers

Date: 13th Nov 2020 @ 8:06am

Year 5 spent the day, remembering those who fought to keep us safe. We learned what life was like in the trenches of a WWI battle field and wrote a letter home from the Western Front. We created our own poppy artwork and made poppies to plant in the Boundary Remembrance Garden.

Remembrance Day - 11.11.2020

Date: 12th Nov 2020 @ 8:36pm

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Today, we remembered those who fought for our country and died in the different wars: WW1, WW2 and more. Remembrance day marks the day World War One ended, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month, in 1918. Remembrance Sunday is also marked each year, this falls on the second Sunday in November. This morning, we planted poppies where we had written names of the fallen soldiers to remember them and to think about what they sacrificed for our country. At 11am, we stood up in class, stopped for a moment and had a 2 minute silence where we paid our respects to all of those who have died in conflict.

Lest We Forget.

Poppies and Thanks

Date: 12th Nov 2020 @ 3:33pm

This week we have been thinking about all the brave soldiers and saying thank you to them for keeping us safe. We have talked about Poppies and why we wear them on Remembrance Day and the children have had lots of different opportunities to make their own poppies. On Wednesday we joined in with a whole school virtual Remembrance Service and the children were so good during the 2 minute silence - we were very proud of them! We watched a short animation that shares the story in a beautiful and simple way.
