Year 3- Dancing with charcoal!

In Art, Year Three have been exploring how to draw with charcoal. We were inspired this week by the artist Heather Hansen who mixes art with dance! We noticed that with gestural drawing we use long sweeping movements and the use of our whole body to create our masterpieces!

Layton Light Switch On

Well done to our choir for performing at the Layton Christmas light switch on event.
It was fantastic to see so many parents and carers supporting the event and a big thank you to Mrs. Casey, Mrs. Pope and the Boundary staff for all of their hard work and commitment ???

Year 5 Musical Improvisations

Today we have listened again to the Ghost Parade track and kept time to the beat by moving our bodies. We then used the percussion and xylophones to play a short melody before we began improvising our own patterns using CGE. We also began to learn some of the vocabulary for musical transcription, including sharpes, flats, stave, treble clef and time signature. Next week we will continue to develop our compositions!

Musical Clubs

We are very fortunate to have experience Peripatetic teachers who come into our school and support our extra learning. We have KS1 Singing Club, KS2 Choir and Schools Alive Club running this year, as well as Drumming and Guitar for pupils who have chosen to learn these instruments. 

Year 5 Royal Shakespeare Drama Workshop

As an introduction to William Shakespeare and The Tempest, Year 5 had a drama workshop with Hal from the Royal Shakespeare Company. We did some warm ups for our brain, body and voice before moving onto making 3 freeze frames representing the sailors arriving in Blackpool. We all had lots of fun and created some interesting stories for our characters. 

Year 6 Creative Movement & Performance Festival

On Thursday morning 10 pupils from Year 6 took part in a Creative Movement & Performance Festival at Blackpool Sixth Form. They were taken through a series of workshops, looking at acting, singing and dancing all based around the production "The Greatest Showman". This was held by Active Blackpool, using Sixth Form Leaders who taught the children lots of different performing arts skills.

The children worked hard putting on their best performances of clowns, strongmen and acrobats in their acting workshop. They then learned the lyrics to This Is Me in the singing workshop showing fantastic confidence, before moving onto a dance to the same song at the end. 

The event was rounded off with a fantastic show from the Sports Leaders with a compilation from The Greatest Showman which the children thoroughly enjoyed.

 

Year 5 Now Press Play

Today we had our Now Press Play Experience which was lots of active listening and learning fun! We went on an adventure with Squidge from an alien planet, who was learning all about Solids, Liquids and Gases. We begame particles and moved through different states including water to water vapour, liquid to solid chocolate. It has helped to consolidate our science learning from this term, whilst also getting us up and moving with a little bit of acting!

Year 2: The Tiger who came to tea

Year Two used the Tiger who came to Tea for their reading into writing journey.  We read the story, and then they used the basis of the text to write their own story about a different animal who came to their house.
We watched the play at The Grand Theatre and the children really enjoyed themselves.

Year 5 Artists are Map Makers

We began to create our maps. Based on of knowledge from the last few weeks of using typography, powerful images and ideas from great artists, we began to form our maps. Our success criteria was to have typography  on the map and some element of 3D work. We discussed the features of a map that we could include, based on our class novel, Kensuke's Kingdom and the map included in that book. 

Year 3's Trip to The Royal Ballet

Year 3 had a very exciting trip to The Globe Theatre to watch ballet. We were lucky enough to learn new moves and watch the students of The Royal Ballet School dance. We were also shocked when one of our students were picked to be lifted by a ballet dancer!

Year 3- Our First Royal Ballet Experience!

In Year 3, we were lucky enough to have our first Royal Ballet workshop today. We learnt some new French vocabulary and ballet moves. We were accompanied by a brilliant musician to dance to. The children really enjoyed the experience and we are looking forward to the rest of the workshops. 

Year 5 Exploring Strong sketches

We explored using heavier, darker pencils and charcoal to sketch onto recylced maps this week, to continue our journey. Our aim was to make our sketches stand out against the print of the maps. We sketched mountains and animals with focus and some people really used the features of the maps to enhance their sketches. 

Year 5 Art begins with Typography

We have started our learning in Art by creating our own different styles of Typography. We learnt that typography is any form of print style designed to create an idea or emotion. We learned about Louise Fili who is a famous graphic designer who created posters for the New York Subway using different type fonts. By cutting up paper and sketching, we started to create our own letters. 

Year 3 The final design !

We spent an exciting day making our final product of a pillow! We used our designs to decorate the outside of our pillow with fabric pens, felt and sequins. We then used the backstitch that we had been practicing to attach the fabric together. We had to really concentrate to ensure our thread didn't get knotted and we didn't un-thread our thread. Have a look at some of our final pillows! 

Year 3 Splendid seagull sketches !

For Art Day Year Three tackled painting seagulls to fit in with our seaside theme. We focussed on the space, colour and textures of these birds and incorporated these in our masterpiece! The children enjoyed exploring what came to mind when they thought of  a saegull. We then looked at skills of using water colour to make a wash and mark making for the seagull's feathers. 

Year 6 Inspired by Banksy

Year 6 had a great day learning about the street artist Banksy and created their own Banksy inspired Blackpool street art. First, we learned about Banksy and used our sketch books to explore his work and inspiration. We discussed the meaning behind some of his pieces and whether grafitti is art or vandalism. We then practised using sponges and spray bottles to create a 'spray paint' effect. Finally we used stencils to create our collaborative 'I love Blackpool' street art. 

Year 5 And..... action!

We are proud to publish the official photographs from Year 5's performance of 'Much Ado About Nothing' at Blackpool's famous Grand Theatre, which was held on Tuesday 15th March 2022. 

The children who performed did an outstanding job at performing one of William Shakespeare's most famous plays, and at representing our school! 

Don't they look like they should be on a film set in Hollywood?! 

 

 

Year 3 Marvellous musicians !

This half term we have been focusisng on using our imagination to compose and perform pieces using insturments and our voice. We have enjoyed listening to a wide rang of pieces and discussing what we think about each piece and if we can find key musical elements such as pitch, pulse, tome, tempo and the dynamics.

Christmas Sing Along

Nursery held a very magical Christmas Sing Along in our Garden. The children practised so hard to learn all the songs and sang their hearts out and danced their socks off! 

Drama club!

This half term some children in Year Three will be participiating in a drama club! In the first week we had lots of fun while participating in a vareity of drama activities. These activities began to develop our understanding of movement exercises, freezeframes and improvisation. The children particually enjoyed moving around the room whilst taking on the role of different animals! 

Dancing Fireworks!

Today we enjoyed our first PE lesson through dance! We linked our session to something very exciting that is happening on Friday 5th November...Bonfire Night! We began by making different movements using different shapes and patterns with our hands. We tried to use our whole body to make big and small shapes before using the pom poms and ribbons. We then practised making the shapes using the equipment, before putting our patterns to music. We then learnt and practised a short bit of dance, using our own indiidually thought through movements and some we were shown!

Our First Year 3 Outing!!

We were so excited to go on our first trip in such a long time. The children were overwhelmed by getting on a coach and had such fun. We went to the Globe Theatre and watch a Ballet demonstration. The children danced so beautifully and we learnt so much about Ballet poses and what being in a Ballet School is really like. 

Point those toes!

Year 3 were lucky enough to start their journey with The Royal Ballet School. The children loved this new experience and were mesmerised by the musician that played for us while we danced. We pointed our toes, stretched our arms and learnt lots of new positions. We are looking forward to continuing out lessons and our going to The Globe Theatre to watch the experts dance!

Listen to the beat!

In Music, we were devloping or performance skills in signing. We focussed our attention to the pulse, melody and tempo of the song. Next week we are going to be adding the glockenspiel to the song we have been singing today!
