Year 3: Blog items
Date: 15th Apr 2021 @ 7:23pm
This week we had our first Forest School session and it was brilliant! The sun was shining and we had all remembered our outdoor clothes. We saw some tadpoles in the ponds, which we also filled up with water. We ate pineapple and we did some natural painting with berries. Some of us dug some holes and some of us started to make sparks to light small fires.
Date: 12th Apr 2021 @ 4:52pm
We started this half term by learning about the different parts of the plant. We went outside and dissected some carnations and dandelions to find the stem, leaves, root and flower and talked about the different jobs that each of them did.
PacMan PE session with Mr. Williams
Date: 31st Mar 2021 @ 1:59pm
Mr Williams came to school and we enjoyed a sunny morning of outdoor sports. We increased our heart rates and got warm doing lots of running, including 'everybody's on tig' and 'Pacman' which included people tigging each other by throwing a bib, then making a bridge with our body. All of this exercise contributed to our 'Road to Tokyo' goal for Boundary!
We have also been doing the Boundary Mile everyday to get us closer to the Olympics in Tokyo!
Date: 31st Mar 2021 @ 1:56pm
We have been learning about how houses have changed throughout history from the Anglo Saxon period to the Modern Day. We talked about the changes in the use of materials and how the Great Fire of London affected the building rules. We discussed how in the olden days, toilets were outside, but in modern times we have them inside our hosue. We have looked a range of sources and pictures to investigate changes over times, including maps which showed the changing layouts of the towns.
Date: 29th Mar 2021 @ 7:02pm
We watched this video called the Dot.
Then we used our painting skills from Autumn term to create different colours and textures for our dotty abstract art. We used warm and cool colours to design different sized dots using different tools and technicues. Then we constructed our group artwork!
Date: 22nd Mar 2021 @ 7:13pm
This half term we have been learning the names of different fruits in French. We have been combining this with the phrase 'I like' and 'I don't like' in French which is J'aime and Je n'aime pas. We have been practising our speaking and listening each week and learning some of the spellings.
Date: 22nd Mar 2021 @ 7:06pm
Fern Class are starting to work with Mr. Simpson to learn about Samba. We have been focusing on using the different Samba instruments and working on keeping the beat/pulse, repeating call and response rhythms and learning about the different names of notes e.g. crotchet, minim and quaver. It has been great fun so far!
Lots of Laughs for Comic Relief
Date: 22nd Mar 2021 @ 7:01pm
We wore red, brought in some fundraising money and told lots of funny jokes to Raise money for Comic Relief. Being funny and having a laugh is one of the resilient moves that we can use to help ourselves feel better and look after our own mental health and well being. We also raised money for different charities, while enjoying ourselves!
Date: 18th Mar 2021 @ 1:38pm
This week we have been revisiting some areas we have previously covered in Maths, including how many tens are in numbers, multiples of ten and a hundred, the value of each three digit numbers and how to partition numbers in different ways using different images.
We need to keep up our knowledge of place value because this will help us with addition, subtraction, multiplcation and division.
Date: 18th Mar 2021 @ 1:29pm
We have been having weekly Ballet lessons from The Royal Ballet School via zoom. Miss Gough has taught us some beautiful ballet moves as well as the French words for meaning. We have enjoyed linking our ballet lessons with our Light topic in Science as we have danced like lights, flames, fireworks and candles. Ballet is all about core strength, stamina and control.
French words:
Tendu - to stretch
Reverence - curtsey
Arabesque - lifting one leg behind the other
Port De Bra - Movement of the arms
Pirouette - to sping
Plie - bend the legs
Date: 11th Mar 2021 @ 2:58pm
We all logged into the Chromebooks and went onto:
https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/editor
Firstly we changed the background area and found a sprite to match our setting. Then we used the script area to begin to programme our characters to move forwards and backwards, make a sound and change colour. Everyone worked really well and had great success manipulating the blocks. We also talked about online safety because its really important that everyone stays safe using the internet - it's a great resources and lots of fun, when used sensibly.
Date: 11th Mar 2021 @ 2:54pm
Not only do we have to remember our PE Kit for Wednesday (Royal Ballet), we also need it on Thursday for invasion games with Mr. Willets. This should be a white T-shirt and black shorts with pumps. It was great fun to get hot and increase our heart rate in the hall with our class. We need to make sure we are keeping ourselves fit and healthy both inside and outside of school. This will also help contribute to the Road to Tokyo goal for Boundary of physical activity.
Year Three and Four loved their first lesson with the Royal Ballet!
Date: 8th Mar 2021 @ 4:43pm
Year Three and Year Four really enjoyed their first lessons this year with Sarah and Rob from the Royal Ballet! They learnt all about the Royal Ballet School at White Lodge and how ballet and lots of its terminology originates from France.
The children learnt some of the main ballet positions and their dance was linked to light which is one of the current Science topics in Lower Key Stage Two. Children learning at home also joined in with the Zoom lesson.
Date: 2nd Mar 2021 @ 9:53am
This half term we have started to learn about Light in Science. We will continue this when we are all back at school next week. Thankfully some sunny days meant we could go outside and talk about the sun and how it creates our shadows of different sizes at different times of day! We talked about how it is important not to look at the sun because it can damage your eyes. We sorted different light sources and realised that the moon and mirrors only reflect light, they don't produce it. Some children even did an experiment to find out which materials were the most reflective for a new book bag design. Light enables us to see and the absence of light creates darkness!
What have you been learning at home?
Date: 13th Jan 2021 @ 2:48pm
So we've started our new National Lockdown and we're also really busy learning online through Seesaw. The children in school are trying hard to complete the tasks too, but its great to see pupils working from home on their reading, writing and maths. The sites available for the children have usernames and passwords which should be in the pupil's reading diary, we are available via email to support you all too! We know this is a very difficult time for everyone, so well done to those people who are trying their best online each day! We're all learning new skills together!
This half term our History is about the Stone Age, Science is about bones and muscles, French is about animals and PHSE covers a range of topics from Keeping Safe online to Money and being Positive. HEre are a few examples of children's home learning from this week. Let's keep trying and learning together!

It has been a very busy Christmas week in Year 3. We had our Christmas party and a lovely visit from Santa, who brought us a gift. We enjoyed our Christmas Dinner with Christmas Jumpers in the hall. We did a few Christmas crafts and made cards in the style of Pointillism because of the art we had been doing this half term.
Date: 17th Dec 2020 @ 10:08am
We have been learning about similes, metaphors and alliteration in Reading into Writing and creating our own Christmas Shape poems. We have been making them funny as well as using the new features we have learnt. We hope that on Christmas Eve Santa's sleigh soars through the sky over Blackpool.
We have been working very hard to try and improve our reading using reading plus and daily reading at school, and we need to keep doing this over the holidays. Read! Read! Read!
Date: 18th Dec 2020 @ 3:00pm
Although it has looked very different from previous years, we have still celebrated the festive season at Boundary, albeit it in our bubbles and via whole school virtual assemblies.
Our carol service was a beautiful event, witnessed, shared and enjoyed (virtually!) by the whole school – a testament to the resilience, patience and determination of both our children and our staff.
During the week, bubbles have enjoyed their Christmas dinner. The hall was set out beautifully with crackers to pull, hats to wear and the odd poor joke to tell for each year group bubble to enjoy their Christmas dinner on their special day! A huge ‘Thank You’ goes to all the staff for making it run smoothly, especially Debbie and all the catering and welfare staff for all their hard work in making our delicious dinner.
Each bubble also enjoyed their party day this week, with children wearing their Christmas jumpers and their best party clothes! Each class spent the last afternoon of this term watching a special virtual pantomime ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and eating popcorn.
Although 2020 has not been the year we would have hoped for, our children, staff and parents and carers have once again united to create a supportive, nurturing environment for the children of Boundary, ensuring that each child continues to receive the best education and start in life despite the events of this year.
We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your ongoing support during these strange and difficult times and to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful, safe and happy New Year and we look forward to welcoming you all back in January.
