Acorns have been exploring the frog life cycle.
To support our learning, we have been reading The Perfect Ribbit and signing the frog life cycle song.
We have enjoyed listening to the story, practicing frogs sounds, singing and using the sensory animals to support our understanding.
We even had a visit from the tadpoles in our pond.
We looked at how they have changed from the last time we saw them and noticed they had grown some back legs.
We are looking forward to their next visit when they become froglets and then frogs.

This week the children in Reception received a very special delivery - 5 duck eggs. The duck eggs warm in the incubator until they were ready to hatch, we even saw one hatching. The children enjoyed visiting the ducks in reception, but were even more excited when they visited Acorn class. We enjoyed looking at the chicks and listening to how the ducks lay eggs and then hatch into ducklings. Then we had an opportunity to touch them and feel how soft they were.

Acorns - Sam plants a sunflower

This week Acorns have been reading Sam plants a Sunflower, as our class story.
We have enjoyed learning about how plants grow and what they need, including soil, water and sunlight.
We have been developing our focus and attention, taking part in small adult led group activities based around our story.
Acorns have enjoyed the immersive sensory story, especially being sprayed with the water spray when Sam plants his seeds and waters them.
Acorns have experienced planting their very own sunflowers and can't wait to see them grow.

Acorns have been watching and waiting patiently for our caterpillars to change into butterflies. On Wednesday, we were excited to see our first butterfly leave its chrysalis.
We waited patiently for all 5 butterflies to appear and then enjoyed watching them fluttering around and drinking from some oranges and flowers.
Today, we released them back into the wild so the life cycle can begin again.
We have really enjoy watching our caterpillars grow and change.
Acorns - Ben plants a Butterfly Garden

This week Acorns have been exploring the story Ben plants a Butterfly Garden.
We are continuing to develop our understanding of the butterfly life cycle.
We have enjoyed a variety of sensory tuff tray experiences as well as the sensory story.
We have also noticed the change in our caterpillars, which a now chrysalis.
We have engaged well in lots of different literacy and numeracy activities, developing our overwriting skills and number knowledge. We are continuing to develop our engagement in adult-led activities alongside our peers.
What a busy week.

Acorns have been listening to our adults talk about new life spring brings and this week we went on a spring walk.
Acorns had lots of fun exploring our forest school area and looking at all the different flora and fauna around us.
We enjoyed using visuals to find different plants and tick them of our checklist.
Acorns were excited to see tadpoles from our little pond and enjoyed watching them swim in the bucket.
We are curious to see what they grow up to become and are looking forward to learn about their life cycle next term.
We were excited to spot some butterflies and collected some natural materials to create our very own natural art butterflies after learning about the butterfly lifecycle this term.

Acorns have been learning about the life cycle of butterflies. We have enjoyed singing the life cycle rhyme to support our understanding and even had tiny little caterpillars come to live in class with us. We have been very curious over the last two weeks, watching them growing. We now have 5 very big caterpillars who are just turning into their chrysalis. It has been very exciting watching the caterpillars get bigger every day and we can’t wait to see what emerges from their cocoons.
Acorns - The Hungry Caterpillar

This week Acorns have been reading the Hungry Caterpillar. We have engaged in a variety of learning activities and experiences to support our understanding of the world around us and the life cycles of butterflies. We have enjoyed making hungry caterpillars in Art and even feeding our very own hungry caterpillar. We found caterpillars and butterflies everywhere, including in our tuff tray and our 'Bucket'. We even had our very own caterpillars come to live in Acorns! We can't wait to see what happens.

Acorns have been developing an understanding about how plants grow. We have explored the need for sunlight, water and soil to be able to grow. Acorns have planted their own beanstalks and cress. We enjoyed filling the plant pots and planting the big seed (bean) and the smaller seeds (cress) and listening to an adult talking about these. We have had fun watering them and checking to see how they have been growing over the last two weeks. We are excited to see the beans beginning to grow taller!!

We have enjoyed our sensory story this week all about Jaspers Beanstalk. We have been engaging in small adult led activities to support our understanding, learning and developing our focus and concentration. We have loved copying the actions from the book, planting, digging, watering and watching to see what grows. We have enjoyed exploring a variety of vegetables through touch, smell and taste if we were brave enough. We also enjoyed counting vegetables and trying to order beanstalks from smallest to biggest. For some of us we counted to 10 and others showed great listening skills and engagement. What a busy week.

Over the last few weeks Acorns have been exploring how our bodies can move. We have enjoyed rolling over yoga balls and trying out yoga, kicking and throwing a variety of equipment and running and jumping. Our most enjoyable moments are when we are watching ourselves move in the large mirrors. We also had lots of fun taking part in some turn taking activities, including rolling the balls to our peers. Through PE, Acorns are developing their gross motor skills and social interactions with others. We are also exploring healthy bodies leading to happy minds and we certainly have lots of fun!
Acorns - Healthy Eating & Lifestyles

This week Acorns have been exploring how to keep ourselves healthy. We have experienced lots of fun sensory activities to learn about healthy eating and keeping our bodies healthy. We even found giant grapes in our 'Bucket' activity. We particularly enjoyed making and trying fruit kebabs. Strawberries were a definite favourite and we loved watching ourselves move in the big mirrors.

This term Acorns topic is Let's Grow. We will be looking at the growth of plants, flowers, fruit and vegetables as well as the life cycles of butterflies and frogs. We will be exploring spring as we see the new growth all around us. This week we have incorportated the story Jack and the Beanstalk and Jasper's Beanstalk in our learning and learnt about planting and growing. We planted our very own beans and are excited to watch them grow.

Acorns have had a great week exploring space and shape. Our story of the week, Whatever Next, saw us travelling into space. We enjoyed the sensory experience of boxes as a rocket and a collander for a helmet. For maths, we explored shapes and made colourful rockets using lots of different shapes. We used a space theme to support our writing and mark making skills. What a busy week.
Acorns - The day the dinosaurs came

Acorns have had a fun-filled dinosaur themed day today. We have enjoyed exploring dinosaurs in our tuff tray, listening to our sensory story, 10 little dinosaurs and incorporating dinosaurs into our number and literacy learning. Our favourite part was meeting the baby dinosaur Sky. She let us touch her and feel her skin and then we had fun feeding her balls so she could throw them for us to catch. What a great day!

Acorns have had a fantastic day out visiting Blackpool Zoo. We had lots of fun looking at the different animals and having a picnic in the sun. We have spent time reading and learning about different animals this term and it has been great to see them in real life. What a great day out!

Acorns welcomed the 3 little pigs, the big bad wolf, the Gruffalo and Mary Poppins into class today, celebrating World Book Day. We had a great time sharing stories and enjoying different activities based around our stories. We especially liked building a brick house and blowing it down!!

Acorns - Walking Through the Jungle

This week Acorns have had lots of fun exploring and learning about the jungle and wild animals. Our sensory story is Walking through the Jungle, and we have enjoyed listening to the animal noises, using animal puppets and playing with the different animals in out jungle themed tuff tray. We have also incorporated the jungle into our maths and art sessions. We really enjoyed animal printing with sponges and paints and creating our very own lions and snakes.
Acorns - Goldilocks and number fun

Acorns have had lots of fun this week learning about the story of Goldilocks and the three bears. We have immersed ourselves in sensory stories, oaty tuff trays, puppets and even Goldilocks yoga. Alongside this, we have been exploring fun number and maths activities as our school celebrates its 100th day of school. We have been busy developing our focus and concentration skills while taking part in adult led activities. We worked very hard and had lots of fun.
Acorns - Chinese New Year Celebrations

This week Acorns have been exploring Chinese New Year. We have enjoyed exploring different artificats relating to the Chinese New year through our Bucket activities and tuff trays. We have enjoyed beating the drums to chinese music and watching the dragon dance before experiencing our own dragon dance. We had lots of fun following the dragon around and running in and out of its body when it came to class.

This half term Reception have been singing songs, using actions and reinforcing their learning of how to keep a steady beat whilst exploring different instruments, such as the glockenspiel and the maracas. They have learnt to follow instructions as to when to pick up and play the instrument as well as playing it in time with the music.
Acorn class also enjoyed joining in with the learning too.

Acorns - We're going on a polar bear hunt

Acorns have had lots of fun this week going on a polar bear hunt as part of thier winter theme.
We have enjoyed our sensory story 'going on a polar bear hunt', climbing over snow drifts, through snow storms, across rivers (water sprays), over the ice and into dark caves.
We have been talking about arctic animals and creating polar bears using sponge painting and cotton wool during our arts and crafts activities.
We are continuing to develop our focus and concentration during Bucket and have had fun watching snow splatts, fountains and bubbles.
What a busy week we have had.

Acorns have had the pleasure of Bailey the therapy dog visiting weekly. It has been lovely to see their confidence around Bailey developing each week. Most of our students are now confident enough to stroke or brush Bailey and enjoy a little game of chase around the classroom!

Acorns have enjoyed their outdoor provision this week.
We have had lots of fun in the water trays, catching fish and ducks.
Our focus has been on developing turn taking skills, waiting and playing alongside others.
