Year 1 Drawing Body Parts

We discussed the key parts that make up our hands, legs, ears and eye, before trying our very best to draw these key body parts, including the key features and detail. We began to understand the important role different body parts play and to orally explain what the main parts of our body do.

Children who wanted to be considered delivered their manifestos. We are all looking forward to finding out the results!

Year 1 Reverend Thompson

Date: 25th Sep 2024 @ 7:07pm

Today we had a visit from Reverend Thompson. He came into our classroom to tell us about his job and talk to us about baptism. We revisited our previous learning about baptism with Reverend Thompson and the important artifacts, such as the font, candle and water. He also told us the important part the Godparents and vicar play in a baptism ceremony. Reverend Thompson showed us how he conducts a baptism and explained to us that new members of the congregation are also given a candle as a symbol of light.

Year 1 Our Sense of Smell

Date: 24th Sep 2024 @ 6:17pm

Today we explored another of our five senses. We learnt about the sense of smell and which part of our body we use to smell, before exploring new key vocabulary. We applied this new vocabulary together to match smell pots in small groups. We had to match the pots to find the one with the same smell, answering key questions such as ‘what are the smells?’ ‘are they nice of unpleasant?’ and ‘have you smelt this before?’ In our outdoor area we also explored different smells and scents to create our own perfumes.

European Day of Languages

Date: 12th Sep 2024 @ 6:12pm

Today we read the story ‘The Town Mouse and The Country Mouse’ to support our learning on rural and urban areas. We talked about the different features of each and compared the differences. In small groups, we then sorted a number of pictures into the correct area, talking through our reasoning with an adult and our peers.

Year 1 Grouping and Sorting

We introduced names of new parts of our body and learnt where these are located. We drew around a body outline and matched widget labels to key parts of the outline, as well as adding some more of our own! Finally, we pieced together a mixed up person jigsaw and verbally told the adults in our room the body parts we could identify.

Welcome to Year 1!

Date: 3rd Sep 2024 @ 7:31pm

We have had a fantastic few days back in our new Year 1 classes! We are very proud of how well our children have adapted to the new routines in school. We have enjoyed hearing about what children have been up to over summer and how much they have been looking forward to coming back to school!

This week we have been getting used to the new routines in Year 1 and settling back into school life. We have also taken part in lots of activites, both indoors and outdoors! We asked lots of questions to help our understanding and we were very calm and gentle with the animals.

Year 1 Telling the Time

Date: 10th Jul 2024 @ 7:30pm

Today we were introduced to telling the time to the hour using an analogue clock. We learnt the key words ‘o clock’ and that when we use the word ‘hand’ we are referring to the arrow on the clock face. We focussed on reading time to the hour using only the hour hand, before learning about the minute hand and that the hour hand is shorter than the minute hand. We recognised that when the minute hand is pointing directly to 12, we needed to look at the shorter hand to see which hour it is.

Boundary Choral Speaking competition

Date: 9th Jul 2024 @ 2:46pm

This week we held our annual Choral Speaking competition. From Reception to Year 6, year groups learned poems by heart and performed them to the rest of the school. This year's winners are Year 3, who will represent Boundary at the Blackpool Choral Speaking competition on Friday.

We all enjoyed exploring the forest school area and seeing how it had changed since the last time we had Forest School in Autumn.

Year 1 Together Time

Date: 2nd Jul 2024 @ 11:37am

Together Time

Today we enjoyed exploring materials and tools to connect them together in a playful way. We began by recapping on different ways we can manipulate and change the shape of paper, before becoming explorers and inventors to create a range of sculptures using prompt cards. Our prompt cards asked us to make ‘something which has a seed and grows a root and a shoot,’ ‘a family of something’ and ‘something small enough to fit in your palm.’ We enjoyed sharing our learning with our adults, being creative, using our imagination and creating something unique and individual to us!

Year 1 Heritage Day

Date: 1st Jul 2024 @ 5:19pm

Today we explored the key question, ‘how has the Blackpool Tower Circus changed?' We began by learning about the circus in the past, the year it opened, what acts performed there and how it looked. We looked at both photo evidence and posters, discussing what clues we could see that gave us information about the past. We learnt about how the circus has changed over time and sorted a range of pictures into past and present. We then created a timeline of the promotional posters used. Finally we created our own posters for the present circus!
