Today, alongside the whole School, Reception have celebrated World Book Day. The children have all dressed up as characters from some of their favourite books and all looked incredible- thank you for all the effort you have gone to!   We had a special assembly where we were visited by an author Shane Hegarty.  When we returned to class we enjoyed listening to some of our favourite stories, making book marks, role playing in our costumes and drawing and paint our favourite book characters.  What a great day we had!

Let's get reading!

Date: 7th Jun 2021 @ 3:21pm

This half term in Reception we are going to be focusing heavily on reading to make sure we are ready for year one.  Our classroom areas have been flooded with different reading challenges giving us lots of opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills we have learnt in our phonics lessons.  We are currently recapping our phase 3 diagraphs to ensure we can recognise them out of context when we are reading our reading books.  Have a look at some of the excited reading challenges we have been completing.

Take 10 for Reading!

Date: 10th May 2021 @ 4:19pm

Today we enjoyed learning about Anthony Horowitz's reading experiences and then had 10 minutes in class reading our own books! It was relaxing but we also practised our reading skills!

National Reading Champions Quiz

Date: 4th May 2021 @ 5:18pm

Today, 4 of our Year 6 children took part in the North West regional heat of the very first National Reading Champions Quiz. The quiz aims to raise the profile of reading with pupils across the country and to test their knowledge of a wide range of books. The quiz consisted of 10 different rounds and included rounds such as villains in books, identifying a novel from the first or last line and anagrams of characters/books. Our pupils were a credit to Boundary and they showed determination and resilience throughout the morning. The quiz lasted for over 2 and a half hours and the children were fully engaged and really worked as a team to try and answer the questions. Although we didn't finish in the top 3, we did manage to answer a lot of the questions correctly and we were only 10 marks away from the school who finished in first place. We look forward to taking part in more experiences like this and with a wider range of pupils.

#WorldBookDay

Date: 5th Mar 2020 @ 8:18pm

What a fantastic day we have had today! We were so excited coming into class this morning. We couldn't wait to see what all our friends were dressed as. Our classes were made up of Marry Poppins, Harry Potters, Gangster Granny, Cat in the Hats, Ron Weasley, Gruffalos, Peter Rabbit, Goldilocks, Little Red Riding Hood and many more.

We talked about who we had come dressed as, we completed a book review and we also enjoyed re-designing a book front cover for a book that had been read to us with the cover hidden. There were some great designs and a couple even looked like the real thing!

The overarching theme of the day was to share stories .... so we read stories as class, on our own and to our friends. We also enjoyed a visit to the library in our costumes where we all received a book.

It's not all over today, we love reading and we ready every day at school! .... Tomorrow we have Mrs. G Teepee Tales coming in to share more stories with us! The excitement and our love for books never ends!

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” Dr. Seuss.

Guided Reading Parents Workshop

Date: 25th Nov 2019 @ 11:46am

Year 2 enjoyed having their parents visit this morning to support their reading skills. Parents were given useful tips to help their children develop their reading skills at home such as predicting, clarifying, questioning and summarising pieces of texts. The children did a great job showing off their superb reading skills.  Remember reading as often as possible will develop your child's reading fluency and overall understanding of texts which is a key aspect of achieving end of year 2 expectations.

The One With The Book Bus!

Date: 1st Oct 2019 @ 6:48pm

Today the Book Bus came to visit. Each class had a 20 minute slot to visit the bus and peruse the shelves!! Children were invited to bring £10 so they could buy a book or two. As a school we will receive a percentage of what we made on the day - we will then be able to buy more new books for the school.

We LOVE reading!!

Date: 12th Sep 2019 @ 9:23am

Our first trip to the library was very exciting! We walked to @Grange dodging the puddles along the way as it was a very wet day! When we arrived at the library we couldn't wait to choose a book to look at. There were lego books, princess books, robot books and one of our favourite books 'We're going on a bear hunt". We spent some time looking at the books before Miss James read us a story. It was about a little boy who told lies - we knew this was something we should not do and if the little boy was in our class he would not have an always badge!
